Top-seeded Montana State gutted out a 69-66 win over fourth-seeded Weber State on March 11, 2022 to earn a spot in the Big Sky Conference tournament men's basketball championship for the second year in a row. The Bobcats won their 26th game behind a collective effort, including 17 points from sophomore RaeQuan Battle and 15 points from Amin Adamu, including 13 that came after halftime. Following the game, Montana State head coach Danny Sprinkle, Battle and Adamu along with Weber State head coach Randy Rahe plus freshman Dillon Jones addressed the media.
For the ninth time in 12 years, Weber State and Montana squared off in the Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament. Entering this season, UM had won seven times in the last eight years in the postseason matchups between the two perennial Big Sky powers. Thursday, Montana mounted a 12-2 lead before Weber blitzed the Griz on the way to a 68-56 win to move into Friday's semifinals. The Wildcats will play top-seeded Montana State. Montana's season ends in 18-14. Following the game, Weber State head coach Randy Rahe, freshman forward Dillon Jones and senior guard Koby McEwen, plus Montana head coach Travis DeCuire along with sophomore guards Brandon Whitney and Robby Beasley III addressed the media.
Montana hosted Montana State on Sunday afternoon in Missoula looking to avoid being swept by the Bobcats for the first time since 2009. UM bounced back from a loss in Bozeman on January 11 with an 80-74 win over MSU in front of 5,285. The win marks the 12th year in a row that the Griz beat the Bobcats in Missoula. The victory moves the Griz to 11-7 in Big Sky Conference play, 18-11 overall. The Bobcats remain in first place in the standings with a 13-4 record. MSU's league win total and overall win total (21) are the most ever in the Big Sky era dating back to 1963.
