San Diego beats Robert Morris 65-53. SAN DIEGO (AP) — Isaiah Wright scored 17 points with eight rebounds and six assists as San Diego kept Robert Morris winless with a 65-53 victory at the Grand Canyon Classic on Wednesday night. Yauhen Massalski added 11 points and eight rebounds for the Toreros (2-0). Alex Floresca had 10 points and three rebounds. The team averaged 37 percent shooting from the field, 75 percent from the line and had a 44-32 rebounding edge over Robert Morris. San Diego led 30-27 at the break but Robert Morris tied it up 33-33 early in the second period. The Toreros battled back and a dunk by Juwan Gray followed by a 3-pointer by Olin Carter III put them up 57-47 with 4:52 to play. Massalski dunked to stretch it 63-49 with 3:06 left and the Toreros cruised from there.
Drammeh, Purchase lead Hawaii to 72-67 OT win over Troy. HONOLULU (AP) — Sherriff Drammeh had 15 points, five rebounds and five assists and Jack Purchase added 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists to help Hawaii beat Troy 72-67 in overtime Monday night to win the Outrigger Resorts Rainbow Classic. Gibson Johnson also had 12 points and eight rebounds and Brocke Stepteau scored 10 points, including a 3-pointer in overtime that gave Hawaii (3-0) the lead for good. Neither team scored in overtime until Stepteau's 3 with 2:46 to play. Jordon Varnado answered with a layup 15 seconds later but Troy (1-2) didn't make another field goal, Mike Thomas answered with a layup on the other end and two free throws by Drammeh with 15 seconds left sealed it.
Murphys 23 helps No. 15 Minnesota past Providence 86-74. PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Jordan Murphy had 23 points and 14 rebounds, and No 15 Minnesota outlasted Providence 86-74 on Monday night. Murphy scored 15 points in the second half, leading the Gophers back from a three-point halftime deficit. Nate Mason added 17 points and Amir Coffey finished with 15. The Gophers tied it up 55-55 in the second half, then used a 23-11 run to take control.
No. 16 Louisville rallies past George Mason 72-61. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Deng Adel had 20 points, and freshmen Darius Perry and Jordan Nwora combined to score 22 in the second half to rally No. 16 Louisville past George Mason 72-61 on Sunday to win David Padgett's debut as the Cardinals' interim coach. The Cardinals trailed for the much of the game before their newcomers stepped to make all six combined shots, with many in clutch moments. Louisville shot 70 percent after halftime to win its first regular season contest since longtime coach Rick Pitino was fired last month in the wake of a national federal investigation of corruption in college basketball. Perry scored 12 of his 17 points after halftime, while Nwora was 3-for-3 from long range for 10 points. Adel meanwhile went 9 of 17 from the field to help the Cardinals win their season opener before 18,304.
Foster, Thomas lead Creighton to 92-76 win over Yale. OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Marcus Foster and Khyri Thomas combined for 45 points on 19-of-25 shooting to lead Creighton to its 23rd straight home opening win Friday night, 92-76 over Yale. Martin Krampelj had career highs of 12 points and nine rebounds in his first career start and Toby Hegner added 11 points for the Bluejays. A Krampelj dunk and a 3-pointer by Mitch Ballock highlighted a 9-0 run that put Creighton up 33-21 and they led 47-35 at the half as Thomas scored seven straight points. The Bluejays shot 61 percent (20 of 33) in the first half.
Foxs jumper with 13.4 seconds left lifts Kings over 76ers. SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Upset over being boxed out for a rebound by Joel Embiid with his team down by one in the final minutes of the fourth quarter, Sacramento center Willie Cauley-Stein immediately made up for it by blocking the Philadelphia big man's putback attempt. De'Aaron Fox took over from there and, after a failed try driving the lane, made a shot that was just as big as Cauley-Stein's block. Fox hit a 19-foot jumper with 13.4 seconds remaining to lift the Kings over Philadelphia 109-108 on Thursday night, ending a five-game winning streak for the 76ers that marked their longest in six years.
Vancouver Whitecaps, Seattle Sounders open West semis with scoreless draw. VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — The Vancouver Whitecaps and Seattle Sounders combined for just one shot on target in a scoreless draw to open their Western Conference semifinal on Sunday night. Vancouver, which missed the MLS playoffs by eight points last season, and Seattle, winners of the 2016 MLS Cup, kept things tight to the vest with neither team willing to take many risks. The second leg of the two-game aggregate series is Thursday at Seattle.
North Texas rallies past upset-minded Old Dominion 45-38. DENTON, Texas (AP) — Mason Fine passed for 309 yards and a touchdown but his heads-up slide for a first down in the final minute allowed North Texas to run out the clock and defeat upset-minded Old Dominion 45-38 on Saturday night. North Texas (5-3, 4-1 Conference USA) built a 28-10 lead after two quick scores to open the second quarter, only to see Old Dominion, seeking to end a five-game losing streak, rally to a 38-35 lead by the end of the third. But, one week after giving up 804 yards and 69 points in their first conference loss, the Mean Green held Old Dominion scoreless in the fourth quarter, forcing a fumble and stopping the Monarchs on fourth-and-1 on three straight drives. North Texas took advantage with a fourth-quarter field goal and a 20-yard Nic Smith touchdown run for the win.
