Harris scores 18 points; New Mexico State beats UTEP 80-60. EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A.J. Harris scored 18 points and New Mexico State rolled to an 80-60 victory over UTEP on Thursday night. Jemerrio Jones added 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for New Mexico State (5-1), which has won four straight, including back-to-back games against the Miners. Sidy N'Dir and Keyon Jones chipped in 10 points apiece. It was the first game for UTEP (1-6) interim coach Phil Johnson, who took over the program after Tim Floyd announced his retirement following the Miners' 66-52 loss against Lamar on Monday night. Keith Frazier, Paul Thomas, and Trey Touchet each scored nine points to lead UTEP. Jones made a 3-pointer to spark a 26-9 run and the Aggies closed the first half with a 37-23 lead. Shunn Buchanan made a 3-pointer and Jones added five points in an 8-0 surge that stretched New Mexico State's lead to 23 points with nine minutes left.
Oklahoma State outlasts Pittsburgh 73-67 behind Carroll. NEW YORK (AP) — Jeffrey Carroll scored 29 points to lead Oklahoma State to a 73-67 win over Pittsburgh in the consolation game of the Legends Classic on Monday in New York. Thomas Dziagwa added 12 for Oklahoma State (4-1). Despite having four players finish in double-figure scoring, Pittsburgh dropped to 1-4 with its second straight loss and its third in its last four games. Shamiel Stevenson led the Panthers with 16 points. Jared Wilson-Frame finished with 13. Marcus Carr added 12, and Ryan Luther had 10.
Lipscomb pulls away late, beats Abilene Christian 75-67. ABILENE, Texas (AP) — Rob Marberry scored 17 points, Matt Rose added 15 and Lipscomb pulled away in the final two minutes for a 75-67 victory over Abilene Christian on Monday night. Marberry shot 8 of 14 from the floor. Rose made three 3-pointers and was 6 of 6 from the free-throw line. Michael Buckland had 10 points and Eli Pepper grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for Lipscomb (3-2). Tevin Foster scored 24 points to lead Abilene Christian (2-2). Jalone Friday finished with 15 points on 6-of-16 shooting from the floor. Jaren Lewis chipped in 11 points.
Grays 23 lead Houston past Wake Forest, 78-73. LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Houston coach Kelvin Sampson said his team had not played with Rob Gray before Friday and the start of the Paradise Jam. It took Gray just three games to make his presence known as a clutch player the Cougars can count on. Gray scored six of his 23 points during a late 8-0 run for Houston that broke a tie and the Cougars beat Wake Forest 78-73 in the fifth-place game of the Paradise Jam on Sunday.
Late FG lifts North Texas to wild 52-49 victory over Army. DENTON, Texas (AP) — Trevor Moore kicked a 39-yard field goal with 5 seconds left to give North Texas a wild 52-49 victory over Army on Saturday night, ending the Black Knights' six-game winning streak. Mason Fine threw for 386 yards and four touchdowns, including a quick 10-yard toss with no timeouts left to get the Mean Green (8-3) a little closer for Moore's winning kick. The longest winning streak for Army (8-3) since 1996 ended despite 244 yards rushing and two touchdowns from quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw.
Davis, Rivas team for 37 points, 25 boards; NC Central wins. DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Raasean Davis and Pablo Rivas combined for 37 points and 25 rebounds as five players reached double figures for North Carolina Central in a 103-74 win over Warren Wilson on Friday night. N.C. Central (1-3) made 41 of 83 shots from the floor with 11 3-pointers and outrebounded the Owls, who compete in the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association, 66-29. Davis scored 19 points on 9-for-13 shooting and came away with 12 rebounds. Rivas double-doubled with 18 points, including 3-for-4 on 3-pointers, and 13 rebounds.
Bullock leads Providence to 77-70 win over Washington. NEW YORK (AP) — Rodney Bullock scored 17 points to lift Providence to a 77-70 win over Washington in the second game of the 2K Classic on Thursday night. Kalif Young added 12 points for Providence (2-1). Drew Edwards and Alpha Diallo chipped in 11 points apiece, and Kyron Cartwright had 10. Noah Dickerson led all scorers with 19 points for Washington (2-1). Jaylen Nowell finished with 14 points for the Huskies. David Crisp added 12 points and Matisse Thybulle had 10.
Cowan scores 25 to carry Maryland past Butler 79-65. COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Anthony Cowan ran the Maryland offense, made several clutch shots, was a force on the boards and spent plenty of time at the foul line. What more could a coach ask? "Man, was he good," Mark Turgeon said after Cowan had 25 points and 10 rebounds, both career highs, in a 79-65 victory over Butler on Wednesday night.
