Final - Coupe Der Lage Landen (BENE League) - Mechelen Sharks v Chiefs Leuven
First, congratulations to Chiefs Leuven, who have completely turned around their season after a terrible start and do seem to deserve this Cup as a reward for their and their coaching staff's efforts. Second, the Mechelen Sharks deserve great praise for the way they played this match - even when behind they kept going and going until the last whistle. The match was excellent and a good advertisment for Belgian ice hockey: hard but fair throughout - and if it had not been for a "Man of the Match" performance by the Chiefs goal tender the result could have been very, very different. Well done both clubs. The match was streamed on the night itself, but the YT archived video was corrupted and lost..........therefore this full match edit has been put together from some fixed cam video that was prepared as a back-up, and re-streamed so have it on the Channel. Chiefs Leuven v Ultim Air Hijs Hokij Den Haag (BENE League Saturday 11 December 2000 CEST)
[Match starts at 30:15 on this HD archived video of the original stream......... On the night, the Chiefs went toe-to-toe with Den Haag for the first 2 periods, but with only 10 players after injuries and Covid test absences it was not surprising that Den Haag powered their way to win easily enough in the 3rd. The Chiefs players have everything they could but were clearly exhausted. But clear signs of continuing progress.] The league table says it all: Den Haag with 10 wins after 13 matches, and the Chiefs with a single win plus one overtime loss to their name. But the Chiefs have been slowly coming together, with their solid win v Geleen last week coming after a couple of very good team performances in losing 1-2 and again 1-2 in the other recent games. There may have seemed to be a step backwards in the 1-7 loss to Liege last Sunday (see elsewhere on this channel) but that score was no reflection of the game itself, where the Chiefs simply could not score despite having just as much of the play while Liege fired in some very well taken opportunities - it seemed whenever they came up. This match will be an excellent opportunity to see if the Chiefs can continue to build on that recent progress. Go Chiefs!!
