West Ham were narrowly beaten 1-0 by Chelsea on Saturday as their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League took a severe knock. The Hammers lack of January transfer activity appears to be catching up with them. But most of that was forgotten after the game because ten minutes from time referee Chris Kavanagh made the most inexplicable decision ever when he decided to send Fabian Balbuena off for kicking the football during a game of... wait for it... football. It was a disgrace and a scandal and another knife in the heart of our great game and decisions like it, along with the appalling application of VAR, are ruining our sport. Former Premier League ref Mark Halsey makes his We Are West Ham debut to give his take on the decision and he does not pull any punches. Will Pugh, Jame Jones and Tom Edwards are reunited after three weeks where at least one of the lads was absent. The guys review the Chelsea game in finite detail. The Name That Game quiz returns. And the boys make their Betway charity bets for the Burnley game before Simon Townley from the Turfcast podcast dials in for the opposition view. West Ham Women season ticket holder Michelle joins to wrap up the show and toast another point for the girls in their push toward WSL survival. Thanks so much for listening.
Note: This interview was conducted BEFORE & DURING English clubs started pulling out of the European Super League. After last week's disappointment at Newcastle, West Ham host Chelsea in a huge battle for the Premier League's top-four. Chelsea's draw with Brighton in the week saw them leapfrog us into fourth on goal difference and with just six games of the season left, it's fair to say the winner of this one will be placed as favourites to secure Champions League football for next season. For this week's opposition view, we were joined by the brilliant Stamford Chidge from Chelsea FanCast to preview the game and, of course, to hear what his thoughts were of Chelsea's involvement in the shambolic European Super League scenario. 🍻 Buy us a pint: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/Wearewestham 🎧 Subscribe: https://podfollow.com/we-are-west-ham-podcast/home 📱 Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WeAre_WestHam 📧 Email us: wearewesthampod@gmail.com COME ON YOU IRONS! ⚒️ #COYI #WHUFC #WestHam
Note: This interview was conducted BEFORE & DURING English clubs started pulling out of the European Super League. With all the crazy stuff going on off the pitch this week, it's easy to forget that we played last weekend and suffered a disappointing defeat at relegation candidates Newcastle. Five minutes of first-half madness gave the Magpies a 2-0 lead at the break, despite us dominating possession for much of the opening 45 minutes. A fight-back to 2-2 followed in the second-half, but Joe Willock came off the bench to win it for Steve Bruce's men. So this week, we were joined by The Athletic's West Ham correspondent, Roshane Thomas, who gave us his thoughts on the ESL, the performance against Newcastle and what he thinks David Moyes needs to do to boost our top four chances as we approach the final six games of the Premier League season. West Ham beat Leicester in mirror image fashion to last week's victory over Wolves. The Hammers took a 3-0 lead through Jesse Lingard's first-half brace and Jarrod Bowen's strike just after half-time. But in what is rapidly becoming typical fashion, the Irons let the Foxes back in the game and Kelechi Iheanacho's two goals made for a nervy finish. However David Moyes' men held on for a spectacular victory and three points that put them back in fourth and just one point off third placed Leicester with seven games of the season remaining. Will Pugh is joined by Tom Edwards this week to look back on the game as well as looking forward to Saturday's trip to Newcastle. James Jones phoned in sick so it's a two-man show until Jack Rosser from the Evening Standard dials in to give the from-stadium view on the Leicester win. The lads celebrate the biggest win of the season with the Betway charity bets as Jonesy bagged a 40/1 shot to net £2,000 for the DT38 Foundation. Matt Ketch from the Newcastle Chronicle joins to look ahead to West Ham's visit to St James' Park to face the relegation threatened Toon on Saturday lunch time. Will and Tom wrap up the show with a jam-packed West Ham Women section with some huge games approaching. Thanks so much for listening.

West Ham rode their luck on more than one occasion to register a 2-0 Premier League win over Leeds United on Monday night, securing the Hammers' first league double of the Whites since the mid-1950's! Goals from Jesse Lingard and Craig Dawson secured all three points for David Moyes' men as they climbed back up into the 5th and continued their battle for european qualification. But Leeds were arguably the better team on the night, with Declan Rice, Moyes and Lingard all slamming the overall performance on the night. So the lads react to the win, the performance and all the talking points that came from the game, including the penalty, VAR luck, Fornals' performance, the mysterious hype around Kalvin Phillips and much more!
