It was a weird week for West Ham. After comfortably brushing aside Rapid Vienna in the club's first-ever home Europa League group stage match, David Moyes' side conceded a 94th-minute goal to newly-promoted Brentford at London Stadium in the Premier League. But despite the negative thoughts that inevitably follow a defeat - especially in those circumstances - we must not lose sight of the fact West Ham are still having a really good season. It was only the Hammers' second defeat in all competitions since the 1-0 home loss to Everton back in May, so there's absolutely no reason to start panicking just yet. West Ham have taken to European football like a duck to water with a 100 per cent record in Group H without conceding a goal. And that's the general consensus on this week's episode as James Jones and Will Pugh - in Reece's absence - discuss the win over Vienna and defeat to Brentford in detail. The lads touch on the Vienna fans and the 'trouble' on Thursday night, Peter Bankes' performance in the middle against Brentford, Tomas Soucek's worrying form, Jarrod Bowen's epic fitness levels and much, much more! West Ham followed up a historic win at Old Trafford last Wednesday with a historic win at Elland Road over Leeds United on Saturday afternoon. It was an enthralling game between two counter-attacking teams which could've ended 9-9, but the Hammers ran out 2-1 winners thanks to Michail Antonio's 90th-minute winner. There were brilliant performances all round. Not least from Jarrod Bowen, who was desperately unlucky to have had his goal taken off him and handed to Junior Firpo as an own goal. Well, that's the view of James and Reece on this week's pod. Will was having absolutely none of it! The lads touched on Bowen's performance, the team's performance overall, the mentality to keep coming behind that David Moyes has instilled into the squad and so much more on this week's match reaction section! After winning our first two games of the season, West Ham were forced to settled for a point at home to Crystal Palace last weekend. Having taken the lead twice, Conor Gallagher pegged David Moyes' side back on both occasions to force this one into a stalemate. It was a classic game of two halves, with the Hammers dominating the game in the first and deservedly taking a one-goal advantage in to the break, but Palace grew into it in the second-half and got the equaliser before immediately responding to Michail Antonio's goal against the run of play to level things for a second time. It wasn't the rest many Hammers fans were expecting after thrashing Newcastle and Leicester previously, but it was probably a fair result in the end. So in this video, James, Will and Reece react to the game, discuss all the talking points, including under-par performances from the likes of Tomas Soucek and Craig Dawson, and give their thoughts on the opening three weeks of the season so far. And the lads also discuss the Europa League draw, which has pitched us against Dinamo Zagreb, KRC Genk and Rapid Vienna in Group H. Loads to discuss to react to in this one! What a start to the season! It looked like it was going to be a case of "here we go again!" when Callum Wilson netted his customary goal against us inside the opening five minutes but, much like last season, West Ham reacted brilliantly to going behind to go on to win 4-2 at St. James' Park. Said Benrahma, Michail Antonio, Declan Rice and Aaron Cresswell were all absolutely superb throughout and, for the first time in six years, we've started a Premier League season with a victory! The lads covered all the big talking points from the game in this week's match reaction episode and they were also joined by West Ham legend Tony Cottee, who is equally as buzzing about the win and can't wait to see what the season has in store for us! π» Buy us a pint: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/Wearewestham π§ Subscribe: https://podfollow.com/we-are-west-ham-podcast π± Follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/WeAre_WestHamββββββ ππ» Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/wearewesthampod πΈ Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/wearewesthampod π§ Email us: wearewesthampod@gmail.com Irons! βοΈ #WHUFC #COYI #NUFC
West Ham failed to beat Brighton on Saturday. Again. It's a pathetic record and the latest installment in the tragic Seagull saga had far bigger ramifications for West Ham's season as it all but killed their Champions League hopes. It turns out that dream officially died just as Will Pugh, Tom Edwards and James Jones wrapped up this podcast as Chelsea beat Leicester at home. Unfortunately, after the 1-1 draw at the Amex, the Hammers also made it bloody hard for themselves to qualify for the Europa League as they slipped to seventh behind Tottenham. Spurs still meet Leicester who will be scrapping for their own Champions League spot so it's still all to play for but West Ham HAVE to win their last two to stand a chance at Europa. So the top four dream continues to fade away, but West Ham's performance against Everton on Sunday wasn't worthy of a 1-0 defeat. It has been the story of many games this season, when we've dominated possession but often struggled to take big chances through the 90 minutes, and sometimes that's cost us. This week, the lads discuss the defeat to Everton in detail and they're also joined by West Ham icon Martin Allen, who has loads to say on Said Benrahma, the season so far, Jesse Lingard, Manuel Lanzini and much more! West Ham beat Burnley 2-1 at Turf Moor on Monday to keep their Champions League dream alive. The Hammers went behind to a Chris Wood (shock) penalty but Michail Antonio returned to the team with a bang as he scored twice to complete West Ham's comeback before half-time. David Moyes' side absolutely dominated the Clarets and should really have scored more but on this occasion, who cares! With the Irons fifth with just four games to go and a real chance of closing the three-point gap on fourth place Chelsea, Will Pugh is joined by James Jones and Tom Edwards to dare to dream once again. The lads look back at Monday's win, heap praise on Manuel Lanzini and ask: 'Should fans be loving or hating Issa Diop and Said Benrahma?' Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Chelsea means West Ham have lost back-to-back Premier League games for the first time since the opening two games of the campaign. It also means we're now three points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the race for the top four - and there are only five games left! Putting the VAR shambles involving Fabian Balbuena aside, are we beginning to witness a collapse as a result of poor squad depth? Is the team beginning to run out of steam, with many players having played so much football this season? Can we bounce back and get at least 12 points from the 15 available to, at the very least, secure a top-six finish for the first since 1999? The lads discuss all of that and more as they react to the Chelsea defeat in this video.
