Ryan Jack insists Rangers still have it all to play for in their Europa League semi-final against RB Leipzig next week following their 1-0 defeat in Germany. The Light Blues spent much of the first-leg on the backfoot but it was not until the 85th minute before Angelino broke the deadlock with a volley from the edge of the box. The midfielder Jack said: “There are mixed emotions after that. We gave ourselves every chance by going into the second-half with score 0-0 then we got undone by a set-play which is disappointing. “But it’s still all to play for as far as we’re concerned and that’s the mentality we’ll take into next week, going into the game at Ibrox with our fans behind us. We’ve done it before and we’re excited to try and do it again. “We know how tough the task will be because they are a great team but we’ve kept ourselves alive and with that crowd behind us next week, anything’s possible.” Read more: https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/8777297/rangers-van-bronckhorst-roofe-ramsey-leipzig-second-leg/ Read The Sun: http://www.theScottishsun.co.uk Like The Sun on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thescottishsun/ Follow The Sun on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ScottishSun #rangers
Scotland coach Gregor Townsend lamented the loss of two tries either side of half-time as his side were ultimately thrashed 36-17 by Grand Slam hopefuls France at BT Murrayfield. Les Bleus made a strong start and scored two brilliant tries in the opening 13 minutes but the home side looked to be in the ascendancy towards the end of the first half as a try from Rory Darge just before the half-hour mark helped cut the deficit to 12-10. However, France scored a third try against the run of play in the very last action of the half and then scored again two minutes into the second half to go 26-10 ahead and seize full command of the match. Asked about the loss of those tries, Townsend said: “It was tough on the players, particularly the try after half-time. “We were disappointed not to have gone ahead when we had a couple of opportunities to score before half-time. STEVE CLARKE has warned his Scotland players not to blow their World Cup hopes in Torshavn. Three straight wins over Moldova, Austria and Israel have put the Scots in pole position for a play-off place for Qatar 2022. Finishing second in Group F will do that — and Scotland are now four points clear of Israel and Austria. Victories here and in Moldova will secure the runners-up spot. But failure to beat the Faroe Islands — ranked 114 by Fifa — could be disastrous. Clarke said: “The thing that I’ve always tried to take from my career is that if you get one big result, there is no point in messing it up in the next game. “We spoke about that after Austria. The next one was Israel at home and it was, ‘Don’t waste the good work we’ve done in Austria’. “So now we can add the Israel game to that. STEVE CLARKE was PRAYING for VAR to come through for Scotland. And those prayers were answered divinely as a Lyndon Dykes second half volley was given after being initially chalked off – sparking an unforgettable Group F win. Clarke – his side now four points clear of Israel in second place for a World Cup play-off – said of VAR’s intervention: “It was always going to be crucial. “I don’t know if we’ll ever see that again. It was always going to be crucial and VAR’s been kind to us. “When he disallows the goal I become a little bit nervous. The guys in the technical area are telling me clean contact. “I’m praying that the referee goes and has a look – which he does. “Listen, it’s a clean goal, fantastic for Dykesy to get after missing the penalty. JOHN McGINN was in dreamland as Scotland seized control of their World Cup destiny. The goal hero had never heard the famous Hampden Roar before — despite winning his 39th cap last night. The crunch qualifier against Israel was the first time the national stadium had been sold out in FOUR years. Talisman McGinn, who bagged Scotland’s first, told how the Tartan Army had propelled Steve Clarke’s men to a famous 3-2 win. The former Hibs midfielder said: “That is my 39th cap and my first ever full house for Scotland. “It was like the games I used to come to when I was younger, Ukraine at home on a Saturday at 3pm, the Czech Republic — all those ones where you dream about playing for Scotland. “Tonight is one of those that it’s just become a reality. “I don’t think it’s sunk in yet, but we’re certainly giving the Scottish supporters a team to be proud of again. Dykes and Adams linked up well together in Vienna and he feels their double act is blossoming. The QPR striker said: "The partnership with Che worked well. "It's not as easy as people think - you need to hold the ball up and the team up the pitch. "I love playing with Che, we play well with each other and hopefully we can keep it going in the future. Dykes admits the delay in taking the VAR-awarded penalty was far from ideal. Yet he handled the pressure to convert the spot-kick and put Scotland second in Group F. He said: “It’s not great when you need to wait for so long to take the penalty. “It was really loud from the fans as they weren’t agreeing with the decision. “But you just need to clear your mind and keep your cool. Steve Clarke hit back at his team’s critics - along with Austria boss Franco Foda who branded Scotland long-ball merchants. He added: “We’re not a long ball team as some people try to label us. We can play. If we have to go long we can play and fight for it. “If we have to get it down and make the passes we can make the passes. I think we deserve a little bit more respect. Clarke says Scotland now face a World Cup FINAL in next month’s clash with Israel. The Scotland manager said: “It was a good performance which was not surprising to me. “I know I have a really good group of players who want to be successful for their country and they showed that tonight. It was good. “It now means that the next game is another cup final.
