Here's the reaction after the game, from the virtual Mixed Zone: Theo Faure (France): "I think that it was a great battle. We had a really good start, we also served very well and I think their performance was a little bit lower. After the second set they served really well and it was a tight battle until the end. It was a great game. It's an unbelievable feeling to be the best scorer of my team tonight. I also didn't have too much time on the court before so it was great today to play and I felt really good." Nimir Abdel-Aziz (The Netherlands): "We were playing against France and France are one of the best teams in the world, so it was of course a really difficult match. We saw that also in the first two sets than in the third set we started to play a little bit better and it became a big fight and we are really happy that we could win this match. Every victory at the VNL is special for us. Here's the reaction after the game, from the virtual Mixed Zone: Linus Weber (Germany): "I think that especially in the first set we played on a good level, but Japan played very well in defence and they are very well-known for their defence and their technical skills. Our sideout didn't work well." Yuki Ishikawa (Japan): "We played really well in sideout - we were focused on this element all the time. Also in case of transitions we were able to make many points. And these two aspects were really important to win this game. Trent O'Dea was the top scorer for Australia with 17, while Bardia Saadat led scorers for Iran with 16. What the players said: Mir Saeid Marouflakrani (IRI): Actually we didn't start so bad. We started well in the first set, but we gave them a chance to come back into the game to play good volleyball. I think that in sport sometimes you have good and bad days and today was our bad day. We need to focus on our next games and forget what happened today on the court. I can't see anything positive on our game today, but there are many things that we have to focus on and to learn from this game. We have to always give 100% in every game, but we have to forget about this one. It was our bad day and we were not able to play volleyball. Nehemiah Mote (AUS): Winning in five is symbolic of all the effort we have been putting in day by day from the players to staff. Iran came back, but we were able to bring it back in the last set. We will enjoy this victory very much. In the third set it was 21-22 and we had a perfect reception and we should have ended it. That gave Iran momentum and a bit of confidence and we were very unfortunate not to win this set. But to lose the third set and then come back, hold on and win in five is a testament to the attitude of everyone in the Australian jersey. France are a good team so of course they responded like that and we did not expect anything less. We knew that was going to be a tough battle even after the first set. We had some good plays, but that was it. Both sides were pretty good in defence, they blocked pretty well, but France just made less errors - we made more and I think that was the difference." Jean Patry (France): "It was a difficult game at the beginning. We tried a different group to make some changes and to give a chance to other players, but it didn't work, so we tried to play better after that with some modifications in the lineup, so we put other players on the court and it worked. I'm happy that we won. What we were missing is just a little bit of luck, because that team made a lot of blocks, they are very good players, but they sometimes also have a lot of luck when other players do other stuff, so we were just missing a little bit of luck and that's all. Coach John [Speraw] has done a really good job about getting everybody different wraps and practicing the stuff with different setters, because we knew that this situation would happen, so we were totally okay with Joshua Tuaniga." Marko Ivovic (Serbia): "For us it was an important game especially against the USA. They have a really good team - maybe they are not in a good shape, however a win is a win and we are happy about it. It is an important win on the way to the Final Four. We had tactics, they have many players - today they started with different starting six and a different setter. It's difficult to play with some tactics when the team plays with more than 12 players every time making some changes. Today it was important to stay calm and to play our game and to wait until they gave us chances. It's been a tough VNL, guys are putting everything on the court, everything they have, but we haven't borne the fruits of our efforts. This game was really disappointing. We came in confident, but we lost. The positives we can take out of it is that we do have other opportunities, we can get back to enjoying volleyball, look for what we have to do. In the third set we started to be more energetic, but we need to start with the same energy. We cannot have patches of energy, we need to have some sort of level and try our best to keep up this level during the entire game." Riccardo Sbertoli (Italy): "We are very happy about this victory and I'm super proud of this team, because our goal was to win two of these three matches - maybe three of three, but yesterday we lost against Japan, but 3-2 and it was a very good game.
