The start - and the opening laps - promised so much in Baku. Then, quickly, the two Ferraris were out of it: Carlos Sainz pulled off, triggering a Virtual Safety Car. Then, while leading the race after an early stop for tyres, the power unit in Charles Leclerc's Ferrari blew asunder. With the phenomenal qualifying and early-lap pace of Sergio Perez already disappearing amidst the hotter track temperatures of Sunday, it was Max Verstappen who thus won easily for Red Bull - and, in so doing, scored a massive championship points advantage. George Russell finished a gritty third for Mercedes, ahead of his team leader, Lewis Hamilton (who was in agony due to the persistent Mercedes porpoising) and Alpha Tauri's Pierre Gasly led home the two-stop mid-field pack. In this video, Peter Windsor looks back at an eventful - and perhaps pivotal - Sunday in Baku - and delves deeper in the tyre deg problems that coloured the race of Sergio Perez. Ferrari is the team with the most storied history in F1 and it remains a dream team for many drivers. However, there have been a few iconic drivers to have never driven for Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton is the most successful driver in F1 today and many consider him the greatest of all time, and he too has never driven for Ferrari Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxBqOQvyxT1tF-FAnYXXNT8ZnlHKyN_7NF 0:00 - Hamilton Reveals Chances Of Becoming A Ferrari driver 1:00 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Hamilton Reveals Chances Of Becoming A Ferrari driver Hamilton, in an interview with Corriere, was asked if he would ever drive for Ferrari In response, he pointed out his tattoo and said “Do you see what is written here? ‘Loyalty’” He further elaborated by explaining that Mercedes is his family “Of course it would have been nice to race for Ferrari during my career, but things happen for specific reasons” “Mercedes is my family, I will always be a Mercedes driver, as was Stirling Moss” He concluded by adding that he is a Ferrari fan “If I could sit down with the fans, I would support Charles Leclerc. I'm a Ferrari fan” Fast Feed Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko stated that “as things stand, we can’t prove anything and we won’t go after it” [Motorsport Total] “We don’t see Aston Martin as a direct competitor of ours” “What you can’t prove in black and white, you should leave alone” Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto acknowledged that “the winning strategy [in Monaco] would have been to stop Charles [Leclerc] one lap after [Sergio] Perez, instead of two” [Corriere] “Or to stay out with the rain tyres and switch to slicks” “If someone finishes fourth while he was in the lead, something is wrong” Haas driver Kevin Magnussen feels that Baku is “a beautiful circuit and very unique with the long straights and slow corners” [Team Statement] “Engine power is very important and we have a good engine” “There is always a lot of action in Baku and the risk of yellow flags or a safety car is high. It always feels like there are more chances in Baku than in the average race” Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu conceded that of “course it was quite up and down the last few races” [Formula Rapida] “But in general I feel very happy and it is very nice to be here” “I think at the moment I’m just going to try and focus on getting myself up to speed and getting the team double points places” [Team Statement] Haas team principal Guenther Steiner pointed out that “it’s a long trip [to Azerbaijan] and the team is working very hard to get it all done” “If you have any damage on the car, it gets more difficult so we’re hoping to not have any damage in Baku” Would you like to see Lewis Hamilton drive for Ferrari?

Danny Ric has been struggling this year - on pace, consistency and overall results. And its not helped by his teammate Lando outperforming that car this season. At the moment, Lando has 48 points, to Daniels 11 - so Lando has brought in 82% of McLarens points this season. Then there is qualifying pace - on average, Lando is 6 tenths quicker - in the same car. (0.596) So I looked into what’s going on, but to understand that - we need to understand Ricciardo’s driving style. Because it will explain why he was so quick at Red Bull, but not at McLaren. — Quickly though, I need to mention that Danny has had some great results. With several podiums and even a win back in Monza. But what we’re looking at is one of the drivers with the worst records compared to their teammate - who is obviously working with the same tools. So really, it's the gap to Lando that is interesting here. — So what is Danny’s driving style like? Well, I have broken down a number of driving styles on this channel - and really, they are subtle points that allow the driver to get the car through the corner quickly. For example, Hamilton is incredible on the brakes. He is able to get the car stopped well, without losing time on exit. Vettel takes a more vee’d off line to rotate the car mid-corner, similar to Schumacher. But all of these driving styles tie in closely with the car they are driving. For example, Alonso back in 2005 and 2005 was driving a Renault with a really strong rear end and using tyres that were rock hard. So he induced understeer on the way into the corner, which heated the tyres and gave him the grip to pivot the car mid-corner and fire it out on exit. But he isn’t using that style at Alpine for example, as it would chew up the tyres and he would be pretty slow. — But, having said that - Danny was at his peak at Red Bull between 2014 and 2018. So let's look at his style then. The Red Bull was incredible aerodynamically, with more raw downforce than other teams (on the whole). But the Renault engine wasn’t great, so they were comparatively quick in the corners, but slower on the straights. ➤Follow Driver61 on: ➤ Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta ➤TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok ➤ Follow Scott on: ➤ Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell ➤ Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta #F1 #Ricciardo #McLaren
Haas driver Mick Schumacher has come under some criticism recently for crashing too often and for not being able to match his teammate. Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel happens to be a close friend and mentor of Mick and he has now defended Mick as quoted by Motorsport Total Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxirIPIl2MZzk1Lj490npYJDeSj9JdZr82 0:00 - Sebastian Vettel Defends Mick Schumacher 0:57 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Sebastian Vettel Defends Mick Schumacher Vettel started off by criticizing the rain tyres used in Monaco “Useless. It looks nice, but as soon as you can, you switch to the intermediate because it’s a softer rubber compound and therefore a better tire” “I remember days when you could drive in such conditions. Monza 2008, for example, or China 2009. That was a long time ago. But not with these tires” He then turned his attention to Mick Schumacher “The most important thing is that he’s fine” He signed off by defending Mick “I have no doubt that he can do more than he’s showing” “But I think you have to leave him alone for a bit” Fast Feed Haas team principal Guenther Steiner thinks that “some teams would be happy if the Red Bull isn’t coming to the last four races” [Sky F1] “I know a red car would be very happy about that” “But seriously speaking, we have no issue to do all the races [under the present budget cap]” Retired F1 driver turned pundit Martin Brundle revealed that “a couple of reliable sources tell me that there were heated arguments in Race Control [in Monaco]” [Sky F1] “What happened to Michael Masi in the aftermath has made the job a poisoned chalice” “He was the right man for the job, Charlie’s understudy, but frankly, F1 and the FIA were winging it at times and the whole thing skidded off track” Former F1 CEO Bernie Ecclestone doesn’t “think anyone’s got the balls to take that race away from Monaco” [Reuters] “Whether it’s the worst race or the best race or whatever, it’s the crown jewel” “Look at Miami. That wasn’t a Formula 1 race. They had those boats in the car park trying to make it look like Monaco” For Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, “this has been an incredible week” [Official Statement] “Winning the Monaco Grand Prix is a dream for any driver and then to follow that with announcing I will continue with the team until 2024 just makes me extremely happy” “I am so proud to be a member of this team and I feel completely at home here now” Has the recent criticism of Mick Schumacher gone too far?

Join our F1 Mailing List! 👉 https://driver61.beehiiv.com/subscribe We get our data from F1 Tempo - go check them out! https://www.f1-tempo.com/ Hamilton and Russell - they haven’t been having the best season - but one has been pulling out a lead in the points. And whilst both have been having issues with the car - they have both battled it differently. So who is on top after five races? Who is getting more out of that Mercedes? The points say that Russell is on top - but do the lap times agree? We’ve gone over every lap, of every race and we want to show you what’s going on - in the data. So let’s get into it. — So first, Bahrain. To give some context, Mercedes were the third fastest car - with Red Bull and Ferrari being a way in front. Mercedes were apparently running the cars ‘over-winged’, meaning more downforce (and drag) than they actually wanted, and that was supposedly down to lack of parts. But both cars were immediately having bouncing problems, porpoising, on the straights, so had to run the ride heigh of their car, higher - which according to Toto cost them about half a second a lap. And that’s about where they were in quali pace. But here is how it all shook out in the race - these are the lap times of Lewis and George - compared to the pace setters, Max and Charles. You can see the Mercs were around half a second back on pace, across the entire Grand Prix - but actually didn’t see the same kind of tyre drop off that the front two teams did. Look at the end of each stint - here. Now according to Mercedes - the pace in the simulator is good. But, that’s still the simulator and doesnt account for the porpoising - and therefore the performance loss with the bouncing - and the increase in ride height they had to make to fix it. But fair play - they finished P3 and P4 after some dodgy pace (yes it’s down to both Red Bulls DNF-ing) - but they did maximise their results in Bahrain. And by all accounts - the pace between Lewis and George was very, very similar. George was less than a couple of seconds behind Lewis for the second half of the race, so he may have been faster - but we don’t know. ➤Follow Driver61 on: ➤ Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta ➤TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok ➤ Follow Scott on: ➤ Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell ➤ Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta ➤ Follow Callum on: ➤ TikTok - @callumraces https://tiktok.com/@callumraces ➤ Twitter - @callum_mcintyre https://twitter.com/@callum_mcintyre ➤ Instagram - @mcintyre.jpg https://www.instagram.com/mcintyre.jpg/ #Hamilton #Russell #Formula1
It's been a couple of months since Adam and I built the rope spoked wheel and even if I haven't ridden it every day I certainly haven't been going easy on it and I wanted to do a follow-up video to show how it's holding up. At the same time, we had Steff join us after he got in touch telling us about his software that can give us a better idea of the characteristics of a wheel with regular steel and rope spokes...is there a difference in wheel strength? This video finds out! It's quite a talky video but there's a lot of great info packed in. Because the original rope spoke video did so well I'm hoping this level of detail will be appreciated. I think this tech could be great for riders/teams/manufacturers looking to really dial in the feel of their wheels! Of course I owe Steff a huge thanks for reaching out and putting the work in to make this video happen, if you want to know more about what he does or want to contact him for business reasons then please head to his website where you can get in touch. https://evotechcae.com/ Also a massive thanks again to Adam for his input and helping me understand what's being said and shown to me haha.
