And heâs done all of it using a pretty unique driving style. BUT, heâs consistently changed and adapted to the cars he's driven - through Torro Rosso, Red Bull, Ferrari and now Aston Martin. So let me break down what made him SO fast - and how heâs had to change for each car, because heâs a master of driving incredibly intelligently. Letâs get into it. So we have analysed a load of drivers on this channel, but Vettel is most similar to Schumacher in the way he gets a car through a corner. To understand this, let me show you an example. First is a geometric racing line, itâs the shallowest arc you can take through the corner. Now, this seems like itâd be the fastest way around a track, but itâs not. When you factor in that cars also need to slow down and speed up through a corner - you end up with a different racing line. This line is not a perfect arc, but rather what drivers call âmore squaredâ. This mean braking deep into the corner, making the car turn sharper at the apex, and then straightening the car quickly on the exit. Tyres have a finite amount of grip that can be used for braking, turning and accelerating - or a blend of these things. With a more âsquared lineâ the idea is that it allows you to brake later, as youâre using more of the tyre for stopping. Then you turn the car and use all of the grip for accelerating. Now, these are exaggerated examples, but to give some context - Hamilton, Alonso and Charles take a more geometric, curved line. As the line is more swallow, the drivers need less steering angle, so the minimum speed through the corner is higher. However, they are steering for longer, which means theyâre slower to get to full throttle. And if you go back to Vettelâs Red Bull days - he was perhaps the most extreme of the lot. He would push the braking very late - sometimes so far that it looks like heâs missed the apex. Then he would pivot the car QUICKLY, and slingshot the car out the corner. Getting on the throttle whilst others were still turning hard. But why does this work? â€Follow Driver61 on: †Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta â€TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok †Follow Scott on: †Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell †Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta Fernando Alonso had a really weird steering technique during the 2005 and 2006 F1 season. He'd shock the Renault F1 car into understeer with a rapid steering input, a technique which had not been seen before in Formula One. #Vettel #F1 #Driver61

Scuderia Ferrari have done it again. A strategy disaster saw title hopes for Charles Leclerc fall further away from him but an inch closer into the hands of Max Verstappen and Red Bull. Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto put the result down to the car not being fast enough in general, but a lot of people disagree. Charles Leclerc was flying on the medium tyres and instantly fell off the pace when the hard tyres were fitted during his pitstop. It's disappointing, and i think Ferrari are showing everyone how to lose an F1 world championship as the race weeks go by. #F1 #Ferrari #Leclerc #binotto _____________________________________________________ My Socials : Twitter - madebypers Instagram - madebyperspective _____________________________________________________ Credits: Formula 1 Ferrari Alessio Montemurro Red Bull Media House Taber_Leese

Smashing it over the curb at Imola, leading to a trip to the barrier. Then was just pushing it too far this week, venturing onto a dirty patch of the circuit and sending him into the wall. These seem like huge errors, ones that may rule him out of the championship this year - but Iâm not so sure. How many mistakes had Max and Lewis made by this point last season? Letâs get into it. So what mistakes am I on about? Well, there are two main mistakes this season that I would class as a âBig Dealâ. The first would be the chicane in Imola - Charles was pushing too hard and LAUNCHED it over the curb. Go back and look at that replay, he brakes too late and enters the corner with WAY too much speed. He then takes too much curb, leading to the plank hitting the sausage curb and pirouetting his Ferrari into the wall. A slam dunk driver mistake. He was in third at the time, but it sent him down to 8th. The final result was 7th, but that cost him 7 points. And in a championship where two drivers have pretty equal cars, thatâs a lot. Then there is the mistake in France, Verstappen had put incredible pressure on Charles, and neither had made any mistakes. So Verstappen boxed to overtake, with Charles staying out. To avoid the undercut Leclerc was pushing SO hard, and went off at Turn 11. The double left. Now this is a really difficult corner, I have driven a few F1 cars around this circuit - and they present a unique challenge as they take so much speed through that double right. â€Follow Driver61 on: †Instagram- @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta â€TikTok - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61TikTok †Follow Scott on: †Twitter - https://twitter.com/scottkmansell †Instagram - @official_driver61 - https://bit.ly/D61Insta #Leclerc #Ferrari #F1
On the face of it, Ferrari's Carlos Sainz went ahead and parlayed his first pole into his first race win...but of course that barely touches the essence of the British GP at Silverstone. Alfa's Guanyu Zhou, who had qualified an excellent P9, escaped from an enormous first-corner accident triggered by cars around him. Then, just when Max Verstappen seemed to be heading for an easy win, his Red Bull slowed with suspected rear diffuser damage. The Ferrari of Charles Leclerc was also battle-scarred from early on but, even so, Leclerc drove brilliantly to take the lead from his team-mate, Carlos Sainz. Also right up there, pushing the Ferrari's was Silverstone's favourite son, Lewis Hamilton; his revised Mercedes was imperfect but, with the latest updates, was still massively better than it had been only a few races before. Then, with ten laps to go, it all changed. Ferrari used a Safety Car deployment to fit the Sainz car with new soft Pirellis; Leclerc was left out there on old hard tyres and, despite fierce defence was quickly devoured by both Red Bull's Sergio Perez and Lewis. That left Sainz a 3-sec winner of his first Grand Prix - the British, at Silverstone, in a Ferrari - from Perez and Hamilton. Leclerc eventually finished a frustrated P4. đș Watch Safari Rally Kenya on Red Bull TV: https://win.gs/safarirally Kalle RovanperĂ€ boosted his FIA World Rally Championship title hopes with a dominant victory at Safari Rally Kenya on Sunday afternoon. The 21-year-old continued his run of irresistible form to chalk up win number four of the season as his Toyota Gazoo Racing squad locked out the top four places for the first time in 29 years. RovanperĂ€ never expected to win this rally. He arrived in Kenya with a commanding points lead and played down his glory hopes, instead starting with the mindset that any points from the championshipâs roughest encounter would be a bonus. But the Finnâs âbring it homeâ approach soon went out of the window on Friday afternoon when he seized top spot from GR Yaris team-mate SĂ©bastien Ogier, who stopped to change a wheel in the final test. Despite feeling unwell, RovanperĂ€ strengthened his position on Saturday and thrived in waterlogged conditions as downpours derailed many of his rivalsâ hopes. The sizeable 40.3sec margin he carried into Sundayâs finale was extended with another two fastest times and the youngster ended the bruising four-day fixture 52.8sec clear of Elfyn Evans. He leads the championship by 65 points with seven rounds remaining, while Toyota extended its manufacturersâ series lead by 62 points. "It feels great,â beamed RovanperĂ€. âI have to say, this was the hardest rally I have ever done and if I am honest we just have to thank the team. "To have four cars like this with no issues means it is clearly the strongest and fastest car. The team did a fantastic job." Welshman Evans combated his troubled result last time out in Sardinia with a relatively drama-free drive. He finished 49.9sec ahead of Takamoto Katsuta, who sealed back-to-back Safari podiums. The Japanese driver kept a keen eye on his mirrors with Ogier behind and ended 27.6sec ahead of the eight-time world champion. Ogier - winner last year - had mixed emotions. Fridayâs tyre trouble put him out of contention and he conceded more time when the carâs engine ingested some famous fesh-fesh sand. The hotly-anticipated battle with compatriot SĂ©bastien Loeb never materialised either, as the nine-time world champion retired his M-Sport Ford Puma with engine woes on Friday. Hyundai Motorsportâs Thierry Neuville was over 10 minutes behind in fifth overall despite incurring a 10min penalty when he crashed his i20 N into a tree and failed to finish Saturdayâs Sleeping Warrior finale. He retained second in the championship and collected five bonus points for winning the Wolf Power Stage. Craig Breen was M-Sport Fordâs leading driver in sixth despite nursing suspension problems in his Puma. He gained the position when Oliver Solberg stopped in the middle of the road with an air filter full of dust, causing the cancellation of Sundayâs opener. The championship returns to Europe when Rally Estonia (14 - 17 July) kicks-off the second half of the season. Final positions: 1. K RovanperĂ€ / J Halttunen FIN Toyota GR Yaris 3hr 40min 20.4sec 2. đș Watch Safari Rally Kenya on Red Bull TV: https://win.gs/safarirally Kalle RovanperĂ€ capitalised on team-mate SĂ©bastien Ogierâs late misfortune to lead after Safari Rally Kenyaâs vicious opening leg on Friday. Championship leader RovanperĂ€ languished in 11th overall on Thursday evening after puncturing a tyre on the curtain-raising super special stage, but was immediately into the podium fight on Friday's sandy speed tests on the shores of the Great Rift Valleyâs Lake Naivasha. Car-breaking roads and thick fesh-fesh sand punished crews as more than half of the FIA World Rally Championship field suffered some form of drama during the day, but Toyota Gazoo Racingâs GR Yaris cars performed well under the pressure. Defending Kenya winner Ogier picked up where he had left off on Thursday and led for the majority of the six stages. He was briefly overtaken by team-mate Elfyn Evans in the morning, but moved back in front in the afternoonâs opener when the Welshman suffered a soft rear tyre. RovanperĂ€ lingered inside the leading trio and managed to bag three stage wins before seizing the top spot late in the day when his colleague stopped to change a wheel during the Kedong finale. The Finn was pleased to be carrying a 22.4sec buffer into Saturdayâs monster leg despite having to sweep dust from the surface as the first car on the road. âI think we did a good job,â reflected RovanperĂ€. âThe plan was to be fast and safe and we are in a good position now, but tomorrow will be very challenging. âIâve never really experienced anything like this before. Last year we didnât have this many soft sections of road, so that was something a bit new. âOf course, itâs always challenging here. There was still some [road] cleaning on the second pass, but other than that we have enjoyed the stages - except the last one - I think we all felt relieved to finish that,â he added. Evans remained RovanperĂ€âs nearest challenger, but he found it difficult to judge exactly how hard to push and what risks to take. He ended just 2.9sec clear of third-placed Ott TĂ€nak, who denied Toyota an overnight podium lockout. TĂ€nak started on the back foot when the gear lever of his Hyundai i20 N snapped during the first stage. Thanks to some quick-thinking, the Estonian carried out a makeshift repair, using the carâs spare wheel brace as a temporary shifter before going on to claim a brace of top-three times. Takamoto Katsuta was demoted from second to fourth overall in the final stage. The Toyota youngster slowed to pass a stricken Craig Breen - who retired his M-Sport Ford Puma with front right suspension damage - and eventually ended 1.3sec down on TĂ€nak. Second in the championship Thierry Neuville also had a troublesome day with his Hyundai. The car briefly lost power after scooping up a cloud of dust on SS4, with Neuville also complaining of traction and drivability issues. He trailed the frontrunners by almost one-minute, ahead of Ogier, who was 1min 10.7sec further back. Last year, Ogier clawed back a similar deficit to take victory after breaking a suspension damper on Friday. Anything is still possible, although the Frenchman appeared to be visibly dejected back at the Naivasha service park. âBeing so far behind, I canât really say we are in the fight,â he said. âOf course, a lot of things can still happen, but itâs not the same fight when you are this far behind. I am pretty sure things will happen tomorrow, but itâs still frustrating.â Gus Greensmith was the only M-Sport Ford championship contender to finish the day, but he was almost 15 minutes off the pace after stopping to make stage-side repairs on Kedong 1. SĂ©bastien Loebâs Puma stopped with engine troubles on the way back to midday service and Adrien Fourmauxâs similar car also bowed out with a transmission-related failure.
