Why Group F won’t be easy for the Netherlands
Group F includes Japan, Netherlands, Sweden, and Tunisia. The Netherlands are the favorites based on FIFA ranking, where they sit 8th. They finished European qualifying with the second-best goal difference and haven’t lost a competitive match in regular time since October 2024. But if Germany and Spain taught us anything in Qatar, it’s that overlooking Japan can end your tournament quickly. Their coach has been in charge for over 100 matches, and they arrive after recent wins over England and Brazil. The only concern is physicality, especially on set pieces. Sweden are the big question mark. On paper, Viktor Gyökeres, Alexander Isak, and Anthony Elanga should scare anyone. But their form is a concern after finishing bottom of their qualifying group and reaching the World Cup through the Nations League playoff route. Tunisia’s defensive record looks incredible after not conceding during qualifying, but the level of opposition was much lower.
