Juventus are willing to sell Douglas Costa to Manchester United, but only if Paul Pogba is included as part of any deal. According to Tuttosport, Juve rejected a €60 million offer from the Red Devils for the Brazilian superstar in January, but they may be willing to sanction his departure in the summer. Tuttosport states that the Italian giants are prepared to swap Costa for United’s talismanic midfielder Pogba, who enjoyed a brilliant spell in Turin between 2012 and 2016. Juve are keen on bringing the Frenchman back to the Allianz Stadium, but they believe that Costa is worth around €80m, equalling their valuation of the World Cup winner. Therefore a straight swap is the only deal the Serie A champions are willing to consider, given the important role Costa enjoys in Massimiliano Allegri’s side and the three years left on his current contract. The Brazil international has played in 24 matches across all competitions for the Old Lady this season, helping the team storm ahead in the Italian top flight once again while also launching an assault on the Champions League. Douglas Costa United have already identified Costa as a priority summer target – as per Tuttosport – and although they might be willing to pay a huge fee for his services, it seems unlikely that they will want to lose Pogba. The 25-year-old has been sensational for the Red Devils at the start of 2019, emerging as not only their top goalscorer but also one of the most effective midfielders in European football. Pogba’s ability has never been in doubt, but he had struggled for consistency at Old Trafford until recently, with caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now seemingly getting the best out of the mercurial star. United are building towards the future and Costa could add a new dimension to their attack, but it appears that the club will have to go back to the drawing board in their negotiations with Juve in order to arrange an alternate deal.
Paul Ince branded Alexis Sanchez "a disgrace" and Paul Pogba "stupid" after Manchester United's defeat by Paris Saint-Germain. Sanchez flopped as a first-half substitute while as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer suffered his first loss since taking over at Old Trafford. And Ince pinpointed United's highest-paid stars as the chief culprits. He fumed: "The way Alexis Sanchez is playing at the moment is nothing short of a disgrace. "His performances are a joke for the wage he gets. I wouldn’t begrudge his high wage, either, if I thought that he was truly putting his all in and playing well, but when you give someone that kind of money you expect a lot more. "The fans deserve better, Ole deserves better, and so do the rest of his team. "Maybe he has the hump because he’s not in the starting XI, but that’s hardly a surprise. He’s been hopeless, completely all over the place. "There has to be a decision made about his future at Old Trafford, because it’s not working. "But this is the dilemma when you keep sacking managers, players the previous boss brought in on high wages are impossible to get rid of - so you have to try and make them work in your team. "He’s a million miles away from being at his best, he looks like a completely different player." Pogba has been revitalised under Solskjaer, scoring eight goals since Boxing Day. But he struggled against the French champions before his late dismissal for a second yellow card. And Ince added: "Pogba really let himself down. Just when he’s won the fans over, and he’s doing everything you expect of a top player, he goes and behaves like that. "I know it’s because he was frustrated at the game, but also it’s because Marquinhos was too good for him, he did a real job on him. "The first yellow card he got was pure petulance – and the second challenge should’ve been a straight red anyway. "I’d say other teams will be taking notes, knowing they too can mark Pogba out of the game. "And just like that, he’s out of the second leg. It’s stupid behaviour. He’s been a talisman under Ole, and to lose him for that game is beyond disappointing." Paul Ince is a Paddy Power ambassador. To read more, visit news.paddypower.com
Paul Ince launches scathing attacks on Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba following Paris Saint-Germain defeat. Manchester United forward Alexis Sanchez has been branded as 'nothing short of a disgrace' by a United legend following his second-half display against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday. Former United midfielder, Paul Ince, pulled no punches when discussing Sanchez after United's first defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and called the Chilean's performances 'a joke'. Sanchez was introduced just before the end of the first-half following an injury to Jesse Lingard and then failed to offer anything in the second 45 minutes. United struggled without the pace and pressing of the England international and Martial - who also came off injured before the second-half kicked off - and their absence freed PSG to come at United and score two goals in the opening 15 minutes of the half. The Parisians then controlled the game for the last half an hour as Sanchez struggled to have any impact on the game. "The way Alexis Sanchez is playing at the moment is nothing short of a disgrace," Ince told PaddyPower. "His performances are a joke for the wage he gets. I wouldn’t begrudge his high wage, either, if I thought that he was truly putting his all in and playing well, but when you give someone that kind of money you expect a lot more. "The fans deserve better, Ole deserves better, and so do the rest of his team." Ince, who appeared 167 times for United, didn't stop there. "Maybe he has the hump because he’s not in the starting XI, but that’s hardly a surprise! He’s been hopeless, completely all over the place," he added. "There has to be a decision made about his future at Old Trafford, because it’s not working. "But this is the dilemma when you keep sacking managers, players the previous boss bought in on high wages are impossible to get rid of – so you have to try and make them work in your team. He’s a million miles away from being at his best, he looks like a completely different player.” Sanchez isn't the only player to face Ince's ire, however, as Paul Pogba has come in for criticism as well. Pogba was sent off towards the end of the game for a second bookable offence after a bad challenge on Dani Alves. Ince said: "Paul Pogba really let himself down against PSG. Just when he’s won the fans over, and he’s doing everything you expect of a top player, he goes and behaves like that. "I know it’s because he was frustrated at the game, but also it’s because Marquinhos was too good for him, he did a real job on him. The first yellow card he got was pure petulance – and the second challenge should’ve been a straight red anyway. "I’d say other teams will be taking notes, knowing they too can mark Pogba out of the game. And just like that, he’s out of the second leg. It’s stupid behaviour. He’s been a talisman under Ole, and to lose him for that game is beyond disappointing.” Ince also said that United are a long way away from the level of European's elite teams and how Solskjaer reacts to the disappointment of his first defeat in charge will be a real test. "The gap between PSG – even without two of their best players – is enormous. There’s a huge gulf between United and the top teams, and the PSG game proved that - it was men against boys. READ THE LATEST MANCHESTER UNITED NEWS "I’m not being disrespectful to Ole, or to the sides he’s played so far, but aside from Tottenham he’s not been really tested. That Champions League game was a real, tough test. Everything has ran smoothly, no major injuries or ugly fixtures. "But now, Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial look like they’ll be out, and Paul Pogba got himself suspended for the away leg. We will see if he can come with adversity, I’d call it a true test of his management skills. We will get to see what Ole is made of." Paul
Victory over Fulham shows Crystal Palace are not a one-man team. Slowly but surely, Crystal Palace are shifting the widely-held belief that they are a one-man team. Without Wilfried Zaha, their talismanic attacker, Palace saw off relegation-threatened Fulham in comfortable fashion. Roy Hodgson's glee in pointing out that his side had won another game without their wing wizard illustrates the feeling at Selhurst Park that they can cope and — more pertinently — win matches without Zaha. Christian Benteke is approaching full fitness after almost five months out with a knee injury. The Belgian is not quite back to his powerful best, but there are signs he can revive what has been a Palace career fraught with difficulties. Jordan Ayew's performances in recent weeks have also provided Hodgson with cause for optimism, his display against Fulham arguably his best for the club. Then, of course, there is new signing Michy Batshuayi, on loan from Chelsea. On his debut, the striker's impact was instant, setting up Jeffrey Schlupp's late goal to clinch victory for Palace. The fact Schlupp and Andros Townsend have scored as many league goals as Zaha this season is further evidence of Hodgson's expanding attacking options. Hodgson said: 'You need a bit of competition and some alternatives in attacking positions. All of a sudden I'm looking at a bench behind me and I can think, "Hold on, this might be the guy, this might be the answer", which for long periods last year we didn't have.'
Hosts New Zealand defeated India by eight wickets on Thursday in the fourth ODI after the hosts crumbled without talisman Virat Kohli and the injured MS Dhoni and posted their lowest one-day international total since 2010. After bowling out India for 92 in Hamilton, it took just 14.4 overs for the Black Caps to chase down the modest target. #India #NewZealand #RohitSharma #4thODI
Hugo Lloris has warned Tottenham they must show they can manage without Harry Kane – or risk having to look over their shoulders. Spurs face a crunch period without their top scorer and talisman as Kane is facing a spell out with an ankle injury. They play Fulham on Sunday, as they try to cling on in the title race, Chelsea in the EFL Cup semi-final next week, and then face an FA Cup tie at Crystal Palace . It leaves manager Mauricio Pochettino’s men facing a major test as they are set to be without both Kane and Heung-Min Son, who is away on international duty with South Korea in the Asia Cup. Keeper Lloris said: “We have now got two days to switch off and then we have all week to prepare for the next few games because not only is there Fulham, but Chelsea and the FA Cup, too. “We are still involved in four competitions, but the main thing is to finish in the top four. We have said that from the beginning. “Everyone is talking about the teams in front of us, but it is important to keep an eye on the teams behind because in football things can change very quickly. “In the League Cup we have an advantage, but it is going to be tough at Stamford Bridge. “Then there is the FA Cup and Champions League coming quickly, so there is no time to think too much, just time to recover and be ready in our minds for fighting.” Kane hobbled off against Manchester United on Sunday, which left Spurs’ title hopes in tatters and a deeper concern that his ankle injury curse has struck again. Kane missed a long spell in each of the last two seasons with ankle problems and, even though this is a different ankle, it is another worry. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola infamously referred to Spurs as “the Harry Kane team”. But Lloris said: “We all know how important Harry is in our team, but he is not all of our team. Football is about the team and every player is ready to help the team. “During the season, you have ups and downs, and you have to always adapt to those and we will see about ‘H’. “But everybody is ready and the most important thing is the mind – being ready to fight, being ready to help, being ready to compete. “It is better when you have all your best players on the field, but that can happen here or it can happen at other clubs. “Every season is different. Every player is different. With or without him, we will see how we do. The most important thing is to prepare for the games as well as we can. We need to try to find a freshness and the right energy. “Throughout the whole team, you have important players but the main thing is the collective. It is the only way to get trophies. It is not about one or two players, but we all know the importance of ‘H’.” Lloris was searingly honest about Tottenham ’s defeat to United and refused to blame bad luck or David de Gea’s heroics as he claimed Spurs got what they deserved. The France World Cup winner added: “In football, you only get what you deserve, and if we didn’t scor
Manchester United drew 1-1 with Wolverhampton Wanderers showing why Diogo Dalot has to start for Manchester United at right back for the rest of the season. Jose Mourinho must drop Antonio Valencia for Diogo Dalot to give Man Utd better quality in the final third on the right wing. Fred opened up the scoring at Old Trafford with his first goal of his United career. Manchester United had built up an attack down the left wing with Luke Shaw combining with Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean then crossed, Wolves cleared the ball to the edge of the box. Paul Pogba with his first touch on the loss ball played Fred in between the lines and the former Shakhtar Donetsk man fired a low shot from outside of the box into the bottom left corner. United dominated the rest of the first half with Fred controlling the tempo at the base of midfield. Mourinho’s men started the second half in a similar vein with Pogba and Fred dictating the play. Wolves then grabbed an equaliser against the run of play. Ruben Neves caught Pogba on the ball then Wolves broke down the right with Helder Costa dribbling past Shaw and cutting the ball back from the byline. Raul Jimenez controlled the low cross and laid it off to Joao Moutinho who finished high into the top left corner with De Gea unable to pull off another wonder save, Wolves were level. Man United wasted possession in search of the equaliser and could have used Dalot ability to take a man on in the final third and cross. This season surprise package in the Premier League, Watford, were in action against Fulham in Saturday’s early kickoff. Under Javi Gracia, Watford have started the season on fire and are currently 4th in the Premier League already beaten Tottenham this season. Watford have set up in a 4-2-2-2 system this season which has got the best out of Andre Gray and Troy Deeney upfront as well as Will Hughes and Roberto Pereyra in midfield. Gray opened up the scoring at Craven Cottage after combining with Hughes following a Jose Hobelas long throw. The Hornets dominated proceedings with excellent pressing and solid defensive work. But Fulham hit back after Vietto’s low cross was turned in by Mitrovic to make it 1-1. Javi Gracia is likely to be the more frustrated of the managers after Will Hughes should have won a penalty in the first half. Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic is likely to be happy with the point after a poor first half. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Liverpool moved to top of the Premier League as they beat Southampton 3-0. Klopp started four attackers against the South coast club with Mane, Shaqiri and Firmino playing behind Egyptian talisman Mo Salah. Salah then combined with Firmino with a neat 1-2 resulting in Salah barring down on goal, Cedric made a fine last ditch tackle. But this didn’t stop Liverpool as Matip scored from the resulting corner. Mo Salah made it 3-0 before half-time poking in a Shaqiri free kick. Ronaldo left for Juventus earlier this month in a €100million (£88m) move, leaving Real after nine years’ service.
