Mount is also very versatile and has the ability to be effective in a number of different positions. How Lisandro Martinez Will Fit into Ten Hag’s Manchester United | Starting XI, Formation & Tactics
How Lisandro Martinez Will Fit into Ten Hag’s Manchester United | Starting XI, Formation & Tactics

Download the SofaScore app to find out more about your clubs players! http://bit.ly/3pEnPPz After much negotiation, Manchester United have signed Argentine defender Lisandro Martinez for a reported fee of £46.5 million. Whilst he’s made his name in Europe as a centre back for Ajax, his skill set suggests that he could play further forward and with United still lacking a defensive midfielder, could he change positions? Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips First up we have to discuss his strengths and weaknesses. Standing at around 5 foot 9, Martinez isn’t the tallest footballer but it does mean that he’s very mobile and agile. He also reads the game superbly well and is aggressive in challenges. But his standout attribute is his passing and his ability to instruct and dictate his team’s build up. Defensively, Martinez isn’t a physical monster but he plays with his head. His speed and agility make him very comfortable at tracking opposition players when they’ve got the ball. Often, Martinez will pressure an opponent's back, preventing them from turning. Meanwhile when Martinez is up against a player with a physical advantage, he stands close enough to step in but not close enough to be pinned by a forward’s strength or be turned by their speed. He used this to great effect in Ajax’s 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in last season’s Champions League. In this tie he was up against Erling Haaland, one of the most athletic and physical strikers in the world but he finished the game with 8 Tackles + Interceptions and he won 3 out of 3 ground duels with the Norwegian international. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube But where Lisandro Martinez really shines is on the ball. The Argentine international is one of the best ball playing defenders in Europe. Not only does he have a complete range but his technique is excellent as well. It might sound simple but his ground passes are crisp and don’t bounce, whilst his long passes are driven with speed and accuracy. And where possible, Martinez tries to pass to the receiver’s strong foot. This might not sound like a lot but it can grant his passing target an extra few seconds as it makes it easier to bring the ball under control. Martinez can also create chances directly. He loves a long pass over the top of defences into the right hand channel. This has proven to be highly effective for Ajax and last season he picked out Mazraoui making an untracked run. Whilst not as impressive, Martinez’s ground passes can be just as deadly. His confidence in his ability to escape pressure with body feints and quick direction changes gives him great composure on the ball. This sees him play with his head up, so when a gap appears in the defence he’s ready to play an accurate, line breaking pass. Using InStat’s Expected Assist model, which includes second assist passes, Lisandro Martinez had a value of 5.02 from last season of 0.13 per 90. That’s not just more than all of Manchester United’s centre backs combined but it’s more than the likes of Ruben Dias, Virgil van Dijk and Antonio Rudiger to name a few. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch So what does this mean for Manchester United? Lisandro Martinez’s talent and skill set mean he could definitely play in a more advanced role. He could fill in at left back or even defensive midfield if required but what’s important is Ten Hag’s structure in possession. Defensively, a midfield role would make use of his aggression and awareness whilst providing an option for United’s problem position. However, it’s not a role he’s played that often. A world class player in possession and a very capable defender without the ball, Lisandro Martinez is exactly what Manchester United have been missing at centre back. But what do you think? Will Lisandro Martinez be a success at Manchester United? And where do you think he'll play? Let me know in the comments below! How Tyrell Malacia Will Fit into Ten Hag’s Manchester United | Starting XI, Formation & Tactics
How Tyrell Malacia Will Fit into Ten Hag’s Manchester United | Starting XI, Formation & Tactics

After hijacking Lyon’s deal, Manchester United have signed Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord for a reported 17 million euros as the Dutchman becomes the first signing of the Erik ten Hag era. Join me today as I take a look at How Tyrell Malacia Will Fit into Ten Hag’s Manchester United by diving into the Starting XI, Formation & Tactics that could see the Dutchman thrive at Old Trafford! Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips The 22 year old left back is without doubt a Ten Hag player. Despite being around 5 foot 7, Malacia is fairly physical, especially in duels which helps him in attack AND defence. He’s also reasonably quick and a good technical defender. In fact his technical skills as a whole are very good, especially his first touch, close control and wide range of passing. And finally Malacia is tactically very intelligent and has a great understanding of the game. This impressive skill set sees him operate as an inverted full back. Often he takes up very central positions, notably in the midfield area. For Feyenoord, this has worked superbly and Malacia’s tactical intelligence allows him to provide balance to his team’s shape. The left back is very much a supporting player and he does tend to operate from deeper positions where he can influence the play with his passing range however he still makes overlaps when he’s needed like a traditional full back. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Like a lot of modern full backs, Malacia shines when he’s in possession. He can play pretty much every pass on the pitch, and whilst he tends to keep things to a short or medium length, he can play accurate long passes, notably diagonal switches to the other flank. He’s also a very difficult player to knock off the ball and dispossess. In the final third he’s an unusual full back. Crossing is not his strong suit but he retains an excellent level of passing but again, this suits the role that he plays. His central positioning means he’s not always in a suitable position to cross from however he can receive in that Kevin de Bruyne sweet spot in the half space. When he does he’ll be pressured by defenders expecting the cross but often Malacia responds by faking the cross and slipping a teammate in behind with a through ball. This kind of passing is what you should expect from Malacia in the final third as he adds tempo to his side’s attack. Notably he does this with a well struck pass out wide or a line breaking pass or through ball like we mentioned earlier. But he also adds thrust with underlapping runs to the byline, often followed by a low cross. Defensively, Tyrell Malacia is a tenacious and dedicated defender. 1 v 1 he’s very good, winning the ball back through tackles and interceptions nearly 4 times per 90 [3.8]. Malacia has good defensive technique, highlighted by his body position when in a 1 v 1. He tends to control the situation by funnelling his opponent one way through his position on the pitch whilst orienting himself so he can make a challenge. He’s also a very clean tackler with exceptional timing which makes him very good at making recovery challenges. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch So what can we expect at Manchester United? Expecting Ten Hag to deploy a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1, Malacia will slot in at left back. He’s very much in the mould of a Daley Blind - a very good player in possession with a great passing range but one that doesn’t constantly influence the attacking play. So with that in mind expect him to operate in the defensive unit, either as a third centre back in a back 3 or from central midfield in the double pivot - providing Ten Hag uses a similar structure from his last Ajax side. But what do you think? Will Malacia be the first choice left back at the start of the season? Let me know in the comments below. How Erik Ten Hag Will Set Up Manchester United | Starting XI, Formation & Transfers
How Erik Ten Hag Will Set Up Manchester United | Starting XI, Formation & Transfers

Welcome back! After months of speculation, Manchester United have finally appointed Erik ten Hag as their next permanent manager. Touted as one of the hottest managerial prospects around Europe, Ten Hag has his work cut out, with a major rebuild needed at Old Trafford. But if given backing and the time required to implement his philosophy, the Dutchman will be a success. Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips Erik ten Hag’s go to formation is a 4-2-3-1 but with a highly fluid and mobile system this starting shape is largely irrelevant with players freely interchanging positions when in possession. Taking his most recent Ajax side as an example when they have the ball we often see: Really high and wide wingers who stretch the pitch, a central midfielder joining the number 10 on the attacking midfield line whilst the other is joined by the right back as the left back usually creates a back 3 with the centre backs. Whilst Ten Hag’s starting formation could be a 4-2-1-3, a 4-3-3 or something else entirely, it isn't that important. What is important however is the roles and instructions he gives to his players. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube For Manchester United it’s logical to assume that Erik Ten Hag will implement a similar system that effectively got him the job in the first place. Using the current squad of players available I’d expect David de Gea to continue in goal with a back four of Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane and Luke Shaw. In midfield, United are without a player capable of playing the anchor man role, meanwhile, the offensive box to box role could suit Fred who would join Bruno Fernandes in attacking midfield. And finally I’d expect a front 3 from left to right of Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho. At Ajax, Ten Hag made use of “Premier League failures” turning them from unwanted players for the likes of Everton, Southampton and West Ham to topping metrics in the Champions League. His coaching and tactical system will breathe new life into all the players that train under him at Manchester United but despite that I still think there are several areas that can be massively improved. In goal, as great as David De Gea has been, Ten Hag wants a ball playing goalkeeper and that’s just not where the Spaniard excels. Ten Hag will also want a quick, ball playing centre back. Bringing Timber with him from Ajax could be great business. A defensive midfielder is a must. An area that’s been a problem since Michael Carrick retired, whilst United could save money on the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Tchouameni, I think spending the money on Rice is the move that provides a guarantee that the position is fixed. In attack I think an inverted right winger could be signed to add quality and variety to the forward options. Still not safe from relegation, Raphinha could be available at a cut price if Leeds get relegated. And finally up front. Cristiano Ronaldo is 37 and even if he’s still at the club beyond the summer United need an alternative. Gianluca Scamacca could be perfect. He’s been touted as “The Next Zlatan” as despite being 6 foot 5, like Ibrahimovic, Scamacca also combines his physical size with incredible agility and technical ability. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch It’s important to remember that Ten Hag has had a lot of success by integrating Ajax academy graduates into his first team and with an excellent youth setup at Old Trafford we could see new starters emerge. Amad Diallo, Alejandro Garnacho, Charlie McNeil, Kobbie Mainoo, Teden Mengi and Jimmy Garner could all get a chance to impress. Whilst there’s a lot of work to be done at Old Trafford, with Erik Ten Hag at the helm and backed by the club I’m extremely hopeful as a Manchester United fan. But what do you think? Will Erik Ten Hag be a success at Manchester United? Who is Amadou Haidara? And Why Does Ralf Rangnick Want Man Utd to Sign the RB Leipzig Midfielder?
Who is Amadou Haidara? And Why Does Ralf Rangnick Want Man Utd to Sign the RB Leipzig Midfielder?

Welcome back! With heavy speculation linking RB Leipzig’s Amadou Haidara with a January transfer to Ralf Rangnick’s Manchester United, I’m taking a look at who the midfielder is, taking a look at his career so far as well as his strengths and weaknesses! ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Born in Bamako, Mali on the 31st January 1998, Amadou Haidara is a full Malian international who plays for RB Leipzig. He started his career in his hometown with JMG Academy but made a name for himself at the 2015 Under 17 World Cup in Chile. The following summer, Haidara was snapped up by Red Bull Salzburg in July 2016, making his senior debut in April 2017. After establishing himself as a key player for Salzburg, RB Leipzig swooped for the 20 year old in December 2018, signing Haidara for 19 million euros. Ralf Rangnick handed the Malian his debut from the bench in March 2019 against Schalke making his full debut a fortnight later, as he scored the fifth in a 5-0 rout of Hertha Berlin. During his time at Leipzig, Haidara has made 100 appearances for the club and been directly involved in 16 goals. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch Haidara is a versatile player. His favoured position is in central midfield as a box to box player but he’s also been used as a more defensive ball winner as well as in wing back and full back roles on both flanks. He’s a classic Red Bull midfielder. His energy and work rate are his standout attributes but he backs his physical attributes up with impressive technicals showcased by a good: first touch, short passing range and close control. He’s very neat in possession and likes to keep his passes on the ground. Combine this with a good level of intelligence and Haidara is excellent at keeping the ball moving with quick, crisp passes. He’s great at finding space to receive progressive passes, notably making runs from central spaces to out wide. Having played the high intensity, Red Bull style of football for all of his professional career, Haidara is a tenacious ball winner. His energy and work rate allow him to get about the pitch for 90 minutes and his tenacity means he’s very happy to put in tackles, but he does his best work in the two highest thirds. Haidara is also very tactically aware. When his side is in possession he’s more than happy to move around to pull players out of position. He’s also not stupid with the ball and he tends to keep things very simple, which isn’t a bad thing. His goal against Manchester United in the 20/21 Champions League was testament to his tactical awareness and patience in possession. Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips With his former coach, Ralf Rangnick appointed as the Manchester United interim manager, Haidara has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford.Whilst Haidara might seem like an unspectacular signing that doesn’t address any problem positions, his addition would be very smart and it could allow Rangnick to implement his style of play. A boyhood Manchester United fan, Amadou Haidara might be the first to benefit from Ralf Rangnick’s Revolution at Old Trafford. But what do you think? Do you think that Haidara will make the move to Old Trafford? And if he does, will he be a success? How Ralf Rangnick Will Set Up Manchester United | Starting XI, Formation & Tactics
How Ralf Rangnick Will Set Up Manchester United | Starting XI, Formation & Tactics

Welcome back! Reports suggest that Manchester United have found their managerial replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and are set to appoint Ralf Rangnick as interim manager on a 6 month contract. So in this video I’m going to give you a brief insight into what he’ll bring tactically and how he’ll set the Reds up. ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube With a coaching career that stretches back to the 1980s, Ralf Rangnick has been around the block with his most successful managerial spell coming at Hoffenheim. Since then, the Professor has been more involved at board level, as he oversaw the Red Bull revolution in Salzburg and Leipzig as the Director of Football. His most recent spell in management came in the 2018/19 Bundesliga where he kept the RB Leipzig seat warm for Julian Nagelsmann. Mainly deploying a 4-2-2-2, Rangnick took the club 3 places higher in the Bundesliga and 13 points better off than they were in the previous season under Ralph Hassenhuttl. Rangnick’s style of play is Intense, direct and tough to keep up with but extremely rewarding and very fun to watch. His Leipzig side would press from a very narrow block which enabled them to press high and frequently force turnovers in dangerous positions. In possession his Leipzig team would get all of its width from overlapping full backs, with the attacking structure resembling a 2-2-4-2 as the creative interiors: Sabitzer and Forsberg, could create from the half spaces. Rangnick’s teams don’t tend to build out from the back and invite pressure to create space higher up the pitch like you’d expect from a possession based style. Instead they’re very direct and often look to play forward as quickly as possible. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch So what can we expect at Manchester United? Throughout his career he’s used different systems and had a lot of success with a 4-3-3, a 4-4-2 diamond and a 4-2-3-1 so don’t be surprised if you see tweaks from game to game. That being said, I think that Man Utd’s squad is made for Rangnick’s 4-2-2-2. The Professor will give all of Man United’s players a crash course in gegenpressing and whilst this could force a lot of fatigue and injuries without a preseason, United’s squad is big enough to cope with the demands. The big question mark is Cristiano Ronaldo. Too good to drop but not suited to a gegenpress, an energetic strike partner could be crucial in allowing him to feature. Despite that, many of his key positions at RB Leipzig can be implemented and fulfilled with the current crop of Manchester United players and I expect the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho to thrive under his management. Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips In my opinion, Ralf Rangnick is the best interim option full stop and if he was 10 years younger he’d be a contender for the full time job. I question the next step as a consultant and what that actually means. He’s been incredibly successful as a Director of Football so why not use that experience? That being said I’m still hugely impressed by the appointment and I can’t wait to see his style of football at Old Trafford. But anyway guys what do you think? Are you excited by the appointment of Ralf Rangnick? And how do you think he’ll set up the reds? What Cristiano Ronaldo Brings to Manchester United | Tactical Analysis
What Cristiano Ronaldo Brings to Manchester United | Tactical Analysis

Welcome back guys! Today we’re going to be discussing what Cristiano Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United means for the club and why his transfer is only good news for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men! ► SUBSCRIBE to STATMAN DAVE: http://bit.ly/StatmanDaveYoutube Tactically, Cristiano Ronaldo won’t redefine how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sets his Manchester United side up. I expect the 4-2-3-1 to continue and with a fully fit squad, Ronaldo will slot in up front. Simply put, Ronaldo is perfectly suited to Solskjaer’s Manchester United. Whilst his pressing numbers could be higher, Solskjaer hasn’t had a true pressing forward to build his team around. Because of this, Solskjaer has had success using a press that sees turnovers forced in the middle third by midfielders rather than the final third by forwards like you see with the German school of pressing. This less proactive style of pressing means that Ronaldo won’t break the structure and shouldn’t change how United play without the ball. ► CHECK US OUT ON TWITCH: http://bit.ly/SMDTwitch But where he’ll really shine is when Manchester United have possession. At 36, Cristiano Ronaldo has adapted his game from being a direct, dribbling winger in his youth to a pure goalscorer. Saying that, he still averaged nearly 3 dribbles per 90 (2.86) during his time in Serie A so don’t expect a complete poacher. But rather than constantly receiving in the wide areas, beating several players before cutting in and scoring, Ronaldo now largely operates in and around the penalty area. That being said, his second goal against Hungary at Euro 2020 showed his evolution and how he’s still capable of scoring fluid goals. But what Ronaldo will really bring is an aerial threat. Ronaldo is almost the perfect striker for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s wing play approach where the majority of United’s chances come from the wide areas. But with Cristiano Ronaldo back in red, United have a genuine target to aim crosses towards, especially crosses to the back post. His technique, height and leap combined with an ability to hang in the air make him almost undefendable from crossing situations. This will see United cross more often but with the option to cross early from deeper positions. This could see a slight tweak in approach, with Luke Shaw continuing to hold the width on the left but Bruno Fernandes to take up more positions in the inside right channel to provide whipped crosses from that flank. Statman Dave Clips ➡ http://bit.ly/StatmanClips Ronaldo’s true worth could be off the field. It’s well documented that Cristiano Ronaldo is the hardest working footballer, if not sportsman. His hard work and dedication to becoming the very best at everything he does is incredible and it’s shaped him into one of the greatest players of all time. Despite winning 32 major honours as well as 5 Ballon D'Or awards, Ronaldo still wants to win more. He’s stated that he expects to win the Premier League in his first season back in the competition and his sheer determination will win matches for Manchester United. Ronaldo is the ultimate big game player who turns up when it matters most. As impressive as his goalscoring record is, with nearly 700 goals at club level, it’s more impressive when you consider that 31% of them have been match winners. Cristiano Ronaldo’s homecoming isn’t a signing made out of romance, there’s genuine benefits to his return. Whilst he might not be a long term addition, his last two seasons have been his best in the past 5 in terms of most goals scored so there’s really no telling how much longer Ronaldo can play at the very top. The only thing for certain is that he’s not a luxury signing but an addition that will return Manchester United to the top. But what do you guys think? Will Ronaldo improve Manchester United?
