LaLiga Santander: Matchday 21 - Valencia v Barcelona
Barcelona were denied the chance to open up a three-point lead at the top of La Liga after Valencia won 2-0 on Saturday. Jordi Alba scored an own goal, while Maxi Gomez also found the net for Los Che at the Mestalla to slow down Barca's momentum in the title race. It's a first defeat for Quique Setien since he replaced Ernesto Valverde in the Barcelona dugout. The Blaugrana will lose top spot if nearest rivals Real Madrid avoid defeat in Valladolid on Sunday. A rather drab first half saw Valencia have the better of the play. Los Che's reward was a penalty when Gerard Pique felled Jose Luis Gaya in the area. Gomez stepped up but found himself denied by Marc-Andre ter Stegen. It was far from the last time Barca's outstanding goalkeeper would be called into action. The hosts also went close when former Arsenal holding midfielder Francis Coquelin tried his luck from distance. It was an ambitious effort, but Los Che created better chances whenever Carlos Soler got on the ball. Soler teed up both Kevin Gameiro and Gomez to continue the hosts' control of the game. Yet Ter Stegen still refused to be beaten. Barca's only response was to try to get Lionel Messi into shooting space. However, the Blaugrana's attacking talisman wasn't seeing enough of the ball. The visitors' sluggish display was suitably punished three minutes after the restart when the unfortunate Alba helped turn another effort from Gomez into his own net:
ISL 2019-20 Week 5 Top 10 Goals ft. Messi & Roy Krishna
The fifth week of Indian Super League (ISL) was full of enthralling encounters, with plenty of goals coming. The week, though, was highlighted with ATK's 3-0 victory against NorthEast United at the Salt Lake Stadium. Marquee signings Roy Krishna and David Williams once again got onto the score sheet. The in-form duo combined to score three goals with the former scoring a brace to down the Highlanders. The win took his side to the top of the table with 14 points, one more than second-placed Bengaluru. The loss meant Highlanders dropped points for the second consecutive game running after drawing away at Jamshedpur FC. Panagiotis Triadis equalised late in the injury time to earn his side a point and maintain their spot in the top four. Bengaluru on the other hand edged out low-lying Odisha FC at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune. Centre-back Juanan's first-half strike was enough for the Blues to maintain their unbeaten run. Keeping up close with them in the top four, FC Goa too edged bottom-placed Hyderabad FC at the GMC Balayogi Stadium. Talismanic attacker Brandon Fernandes' brilliant delivery from a corner was converted by Manvir Singh, who is deputing for the injured Ferran Corominas. In another fixture, Mumbai City FC and Kerala Blasters played out a 1-1 draw at the Mumbai Football Arena. Raphael Messi Bouli had given the visitors a lead in the 75th minute but his celebrations were cut short. Within the next couple of minutes, the Islanders' top scorer this season, Amine Chermiti, pulled one back for his side to earn them a point. Meanwhile, Chennaiyin FC played their first game under new head coach Owen Coyle and it turned out to be a positive result. The Marina Machans almost pulled off an upset against Jamshedpur. They were en route a 0-1 victory at The Furnace after Nerijus Valskis had given them the lead in the first half an hour. However, in absence of star performer Sergio Castel, Isaac Vanmalsawma stepped up to score for the Men of Steel, late in the game. His strike also means Jamshedpur stay fourth in the table level on points with FC Goa.
