With a short break in my match calendar, this week I head up to Brickyard Fishery at Ripon in search of some spring tench and bream. Having never visited the venue before and having limited knowledge of it gleaned from other anglers, I decide to go with a two pronged approach on the long pole. I select two lines at 11m and on one I decide to fish with micros and expander pellets and on the other, natural baits, worm, casters and maggots. I plumb up the two lines and discover that there is next to no difference in depth, finding around 3.5ft on both, therefore 1 simple rig covers both swims, a 0.1g float with strung out stotz to allow fishing through the water and down on the deck. This simple drop through rig I feel is the best shotting pattern to allow me to identify how the fish want the bait presented and, if deemed necessary, I'd setup a shallow rig or a bulk rig depending on the response and weather conditions. The difference in the species of fish caught on pellets vs naturals is quite distinct but what is also interesting is how selective caster can be on the naturals line. If you're planning a visit to Brickyard Fishery, I don't think you can discount soft pellet fishing in spring but don't forget to take the naturals! If you are interested in any of the products I use or feature in the videos, I have been compiling a list of those in my amazon store. www.amazon.co.uk/shop/hookedfishingchannel Please consider purchasing through this link as it earns the channel a small commission and makes it possible for me to continue making videos for you all to enjoy. Glenn Flutie is one of our sports greatest fisherman with accolades few have. He won the prestigious Fall Fly Invitational Bonefish tournament when he was 16. His passion for them was relentless and when he found his footing with Tarpon, he became an obsessive predator. He would eventually win an unprecedented five Gold Cup Tarpon tournaments in five years. He was a prodigy, born with fisherman’s blood. His father was an offshore Captain, but sea sickness kept Glenn in the bonefish’s shallow water. Raised in the fishing capital of the world, Islamorada, he chased fish every day. With a fly rod in his locker for quick access he’d often be found casting to tailing bonefish instead of attending class. His friends, Timmy Klein and Craig Brewer, too were on the water daily and became iconic guides. On todays podcast, Glenn walks us through a gifted life of living on an island and chasing the greatest game fish in the world, his tarpon mentor Harry Spear, and his methodology on being one of the greatest tarpon anglers of all time. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please subscribe and leave a comment.
