Highlights vs. Chicago Cubs (5.4.22)

The Chicago White Sox swept the first round of the Wintrust Crosstown Series, topping the Chicago Cubs 4-3 on May 4, 2022. It was the third straight win for the Sox and their fifth straight win at Wrigley Field. José Abreu got the part started for Tony La Russa’s crew, smacking a 364-foot solo home run to give the White Sox a 1-0 lead. After falling behind 3-1, the Sox clawed their back into the game. Leury García hit a solo home run of his own in the third and Gavin Sheets tied the game with an RBI single in the fourth. The White Sox continued to battle and took the lead in the sixth inning. AJ Pollock looped a two-out base hit to shallow right field, scoring Luis Robert to put the Sox up 4-3. Lucas Giolito missed a lot of Cubs bats in his third start of the season. He struck out 10 batters, allowing three runs in five and two-thirds innings pitched. It was his 14th start with 10+ strikeouts, which is the fourth most in club history. The Cubs threatened in the bottom of the eighth, but Matt Foster come up with a crucial hold. With two on and one out, he retired back-to-back hitters to keep the Sox in the lead. For the third consecutive night, Liam Hendriks closed the door. He retired the Cubs in order to earn his seventh save of the season. With the win, the Sox improve to 11-13 on the season. The White Sox lead the all-time series, 72-64, including a 11-4 record over the last 15 games overall and a 9-2 mark in the last 11 at Wrigley Field.
