The Lakers Made A HORRIFIC MISTAKE...
The big 3 of Lebron James, Anthony Davis and now Russell Westbrook is a combined weight of 121 million dollars for the next season. Just those 3 players have a bigger combined salary of the complete rosters for 19 teams in the league. But none of that matters since now the Lakers have a superteam and are for sure winning the title right? On the contrary, if you ask me, they made a horrific mistake. Let me explain why. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. You know what’s Lebron’s style of play right? On every team he’s been on. Overpowers defenders, attacks the basket, and when the help comes, kicks it out to the shooter. That’s literally the recipe with each and every one of his teams. But in order to get Westbrook, who’s a career 30.5% shooter from downtown, which for those of you that don’t know that’s not good, the Lakers gave away probably their best outside shooter in Caldwell Pope. He shot 38.5% when they won the title, and 41.0% last year. Speaking of shooting, this is how the Lakers themselves defended Westbrook in that playoff series against Houston. Look at all of this space. Do you know how Brodie shot it that entire year? An abysmal 25.8%. Threes that were primarily off of the catch and shot from Harden’s kick outs. Which is the exact same way of operating with Lebron. So since LA gave up so much to get Westbrook, now the depth is depleted as well, but of course they are restricted in terms of the salary cap so things will get trickier for them. And the most mind blowing thing for me is that just hours before acquiring Russell, reporters were saying that the team was trying to trade for Buddy Hield, which was actually the perfect guy to trade for. A career 40.6% shooter from 3, playing alongside Lebron and AD on the perimeter? There’s no way you double them 2. And if you do, there would have been a high price to pay. Plus, the roles would have been clear there since Buddy is a shooter. Whereas Westbrook is best when the ball is in his hands, but we know that the Lakers are the best when James has it in his possession. So this will be similar to that hybrid “on the ball, off the ball” that Rockets had him play when Brodie was in Houston alongside Harden. They were great friends too, as is the case now, so I’ve already seen the comments saying: they’ll find a way to make it work. But honestly I got fooled with that the first time around. I honestly thought that Westbrook and Harden will make things work, but we saw how they barely even got out of the first round in 7 games against the OKC Thunder. So look: At the end of the day, Russell is going to do his thing especially during the regular season. He’ll have nights where he’s unstoppable, racking up triple doubles, and providing firepower enough to win games against some teams and for Lebron to be a bit more rested. But I’m viewing this from the standpoint of the playoffs, where teams look to exploit every possible weakness, and where shooting is especially important. And now it’s clear that Schroeder is not going to be coming back and obviously the Lakers are not done making moves yet, but they need to be creative in terms of filling out the roster with good pieces who can contribute under the brightest lights when it matters the most, in the hunt for the championship. Until then, and until I’m proven wrong, my stance is that they made a mistake. I expect a lot of passionate comments, so whether you agree or disagree, let me know down below. Keep it respectable tho. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
Russell Westbrook is phenomenal, but bad for LeBron and AD - Skip & Shannon I NBA I UNDISPUTED
The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly looking to upgrade their roster with a veteran point guard, and one name that has come up internally is Russell Westbrook. The purple and gold would need to work out a sign-and-trade to acquire the LA native and former MVP from the Washington Wizards. The team has explored if a deal centered around Dennis Schroeder, Kyle Kuzma, and Talen Horton Tucker would do the trick. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe discuss whether Westbrook would work with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. #Undisputed #NBA #RussellWestbrook SUBSCRIBE to get the latest UNDISPUTED content: http://foxs.pt/SubscribeUNDISPUTED Listen to UNDISPUTED on Spotify: https://foxs.pt/UNDISPUTEDSpotify The all-new FOX Sports App, built for the modern sports fan: https://tinyurl.com/y4uouolb ►Watch the latest content from UNDISPUTED: https://foxs.pt/TheLatestOnUNDISPUTED ▶First Things First's YouTube channel: http://foxs.pt/SubscribeFIRSTTHINGSFIRST ▶The Herd with Colin Cowherd’s YouTube channel: http://foxs.pt/SubscribeTHEHERD ▶Speak for Yourself’s YouTube channel: http://foxs.pt/SubscribeSPEAKFORYOURSELF ►FOX Bet Live’s YouTube Channel: https://foxs.pt/SubscribeFOXBETLIVE ►Club Shay Shay’s YouTube Channel: http://foxs.pt/SubscribeCLUBSHAYSHAY ▶Titus & Tate's YouTube channel: http://foxs.pt/SubscribeTITUSANDTATE See more from UNDISPUTED: http://foxs.pt/UNDISPUTEDFoxSports Like UNDISPUTED on Facebook: http://foxs.pt/UNDISPUTEDFacebook Follow UNDISPUTED on Twitter: http://foxs.pt/UNDISPUTEDTwitter Follow UNDISPUTED on Instagram: http://foxs.pt/UNDISPUTEDInstagram Follow Skip Bayless on Twitter: http://foxs.pt/SkipBaylessTwitter Follow Shannon Sharpe on Twitter: http://foxs.pt/ShannonSharpeTwitter Follow Jenny Taft on Twitter: https://foxs.pt/JennyTaftTwitter About Skip and Shannon: UNDISPUTED: UNDISPUTED is a daily two-and-a-half hour sports debate show starring Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe. NOBODY IS TELLING YOU THIS: How The Suns SHOCKED The Lakers
As Lebron James gets the ball, great pressure up top by Crowder but then look at the rest of the suns, how they’re all in the paint ready to help. So as Lebron drives, he sees all these bodies, and look at this. This turns into a dogfight. And even after James was able to escape from that, you see again how Phoenix is protecting the paint at all costs. He’s forced into a contested jump shot and you see the result. There was a lot of this in game 5, as the Suns absolutely shocked the Lakers to get 1 step from winning this series. Let me reveal everything. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Similar situation here: Crowder is extra aggressive on this screen, and as soon as Lebron steps into the paint, look at all of these Phoenix defenders on him. The pass goes out to Dennis Shroeder who’s a below average 3 point shooter and he misses right here. Thing is, with the way LA has been shooting from downtown at only 30.2% the Suns had every right to take this gamble and make them hit shots from outside. Even in this situation, as the exact same thing happens, the drive, the multiple bodies in front, we got a great find in the corner for the wide open Carusso who knocks it in. This didn’t alter the game plan whatsoever for the Suns, as they played the numbers and it ultimately showed as the right move for them. In transition, check out the familiar defensive strategy of forming a wall that teams usually use against Giannis. James sees that and knows how tough it would be if he decides to go inside, so instead, settles for the long three right here and misses the shot. Even on the backdown, as the king steps inside, look at all this crowd here, and the great defense by Bridges here who stays vertical, hand up, forcing the kick out, Kuzma does a hot potato pass to Caldwell Pope, and this ultimately ends up being a bad, bad possession. Phenomenal rotation by the Suns tho. I gotta give them credit for executing the game plan to perfection. And I guess this whole thing of parking everyone under the basket, kind of surprised Dennis Schroeder, as he was a complete no show in this one, settling for long range shots, and shooting 0-9 and finishing game 5 without a single point. His drives were some of the main weapons offensively for the Lakers and a big reason for the 2 wins. But again, with this type of defense, there was not a lot of room for him to operate and just couldn’t figure things out. On the other side however, Devin Booker exploded from the very beginning. He was aggressive and looking to attack from the opening tip. Dude finished the first quarter with 18 points, and watching some of these shots, you can absolutely see why he can be one of the streakiest, hottest shooters in the league. I like the approach however. Booker knew that in order for Phoenix to win this game, he had to have a big game, and in front of the home crowd, Devin started off hot, and in combination with the team defense, they put the Lakers away by halftime. Leading by a mind boggling 30 points at the break. Now of course, all of this was made possible in part because of the absence of Anthony Davis who didn’t look good at all before the game, at this moment it seems like he won’t play in the next one as well. And if that’s the case, we may just have a new champion at the end of this season. But let’s wait and see. Let me know what you think, can Lebron will this team to the next round? That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
