Micah Handlogten might not be a flashy transfer portal name, but he could be EXACTLY the type of player Arkansas basketball needs heading into next season. In this full breakdown, we take a deep dive into the 7’1, 255-pound center from Florida and why his impact goes far beyond the box score. Handlogten entered the transfer portal after playing a key role for the Florida Gators, including being part of a national championship run. What makes his story even more unique is the fact that he originally planned to redshirt during the 2024-25 season while recovering from a leg injury. However, when Florida suffered frontcourt injuries late in the year, Handlogten made the decision to return in February and help his team make a postseason push. That type of toughness and team-first mentality is something coaches absolutely love. Now the big question is whether Handlogten will receive an NCAA waiver that allows him to play a fifth season. That decision is expected sometime between May and July, and it could significantly impact his transfer market. If he’s granted eligibility, he instantly becomes one of the most valuable “role player” big men in the portal. Statistically, Handlogten isn’t going to jump off the page as a scorer, but his value comes in areas that WIN games. During the 2025-26 season, he averaged 4.1 points and 5.9 rebounds while shooting an efficient 63.7% from the field. But the real story is his rebounding — especially on the offensive glass. In the 2023-24 season, Handlogten recorded 108 offensive rebounds, which ranks as the second-highest single-season total in Florida basketball history. He followed that up with another 100+ offensive rebound season, making him one of only two players in program history (along with Patric Young) to accomplish that feat multiple times. That kind of production translates directly into extra possessions, second-chance points, and winning basketball. At Marshall, Handlogten showed even more upside, averaging 7.6 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game while earning Sun Belt Freshman of the Year honors. He also ranked among the national leaders in both rebounding and shot blocking, showing the defensive impact he can bring at a high level. So what does this mean for Arkansas? If the Razorbacks are looking for a physical, high-motor big who can dominate the glass, protect the rim, and do all the dirty work, Handlogten fits perfectly. He projects as a rotation center who can give you 15–20 minutes per game while impacting the game in ways that don’t always show up in scoring totals. This video breaks down his strengths, weaknesses, fit in Arkansas’ system, and why he could be a sneaky but important addition out of the transfer portal. Is Micah Handlogten a must-get player for the Razorbacks? Or is he more of a depth piece with limited upside? Watch the full breakdown to find out. If you’re a Razorback fan, make sure to like, subscribe, and stay locked in for more Arkansas basketball and transfer portal coverage. Woo Pig! 🐗
Zach Berman opened the episode by discussing some fun local topics, challenging the use of "Taylor Ham" versus "Pork Roll" and jokingly criticizing Sunny Mehta’s Mets fandom. He firmly corrected that "Pork Roll" is the name of the product, while "Taylor Ham" is just a brand, much like "Chips Ahoy" is a brand of cookies 00:00:29. This playful introduction set the tone for a deeper discussion about the new era of New Jersey Devils hockey under Sunny Mehta, emphasizing the excitement and high expectations following Mehta’s first press conference. Shifting to hockey, Zach Berman provided an extensive breakdown of Sunny Mehta’s introductory press conference as the sixth general manager in Devils history. He praised Mehta’s approach, calling the presser close to a "grand slam" and noting the depth, candor, and insight Mehta offered. While some caution was advised—press conferences are often just talk—Zach Berman appreciated Mehta’s step-by-step mentality, his refusal to overpromise about an immediate Stanley Cup, and his plan to build methodically, "brick by brick," rather than rushing lofty expectations 00:02:17. A key point was how Mehta’s background in poker influences his management style. Drawing on Mehta’s "tight and aggressive" poker philosophy, Zach Berman noted Mehta’s emphasis on patience, discipline, and boldness when the right moment arises 00:13:40. Mehta plans to apply this logic to roster construction—waiting for the right opportunities and then acting decisively. Additionally, Mehta highlighted the importance of analytically-informed, collaborative decision-making, aggregating diverse perspectives, and striving for smart, objective decisions repeatedly to maximize the odds of success 00:12:25. Finally, Zach Berman detailed ownership’s continuing commitment to success, including spinning to the cap and putting their trust in Mehta as the sole decision-maker rather than hiring a president of hockey operations 00:21:27. Mehta’s deep fandom, local ties, and genuine excitement for the GM role further endeared him to both Berman and the fanbase. As the organization heads into a new era, Mehta faces key decisions—around the roster, coaching, and front office—which will test his philosophies and drive to restore the Devils to perennial contention while embracing his status as a true New Jersey original. Michael Beasley, one of the most gifted scorers ever, a Big 12 Player of the Year, Big 12 Freshman of the Year, McDonald’s All-American Game MVP, BIG3 Champion, back-to-back BIG3 MVP, and one of the best one-on-one players in basketball, joins Club Shay Shay. Beasley reflects on growing up in Maryland, surrounded by family members who were incarcerated, including his grandfather, father, and uncle. He shares how basketball became his outlet after shooting his first shot at three years old and beginning organized basketball at eight. He explains how being oversized for his age shaped the way people viewed him and how he often felt misunderstood. He reveals that meeting Kevin Durant changed his basketball life. Durant pushed him into the gym, taught him the language of basketball, and helped sharpen his competitive drive. Beasley also discusses living with Nolan Smith’s family during his teenage years and how those relationships helped shape the player he became. Beasley opens up about his father, saying he later learned the truth about why their relationship was limited as a child. He explains how that revelation created distance between him and his mother before learning of her cancer diagnosis. He also discusses the famous story of stealing pizza on the first day he met Kevin Durant. Beasley discusses time spent at Kevin Durant’s house, saying KD constantly talked basketball even as a kid. He also speaks on Lethal Shooter, remembering him as an elite shooter long before today’s NBA embraced deep threes. On AAU basketball, Beasley says money has changed youth sports, with too many families chasing profit instead of development, discipline, and love for the game. He also describes how some coaches profited from his talent while his family still struggled financially. He talks about attending six high schools, being on his own at a young age, and dominating everywhere he played. Beasley then revisits winning the McDonald’s All-American Game MVP over Derrick Rose, James Harden, O.J. Mayo, Kevin Love, Blake Griffin, and DeAndre Jordan after using being ranked No. 6 by ESPN as motivation. He praises Rose’s athleticism, O.J. Mayo’s skill, Blake Griffin’s power, and Kevin Love’s passing. Beasley reflects on his legendary freshman season at Kansas State, where he broke Carmelo Anthony’s freshman double-double record and outproduced Kevin Durant statistically. He names his all-time one-and-done starting five as Derrick Rose, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Zion Williamson, and Anthony Davis. He also discusses NIL, saying he wanted to stay in college longer but outside influences pushed him to the NBA. Finally, he revisits the 2008 NBA Draft and says he believes he would have been the No. 1 overall pick if the Chicago Bulls had not won the lottery and selected Derrick Rose. #ClubShayShay #MichaelBeasley #KevinDurant Buy LePortier: https://leportiercognac.com/products/shay_vsop_750ml/ SUBSCRIBE to get the latest Club Shay Shay content: https://www.youtube.com/c/ClubShayShay?sub_confirmation=1 Listen to the Club Shay Shay podcast on Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/club-shay-shay/id1531023690 Listen to the Club Shay Shay podcast on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/060hDdnydsJyMi17TmvyAh?si=iuda1z7oTE-21ZYzwiUdhg&nd=1 Like Club Shay Shay on Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/ClubShayShay/ Follow Club Shay Shay on Twitter: https://x.com/clubshayshay?s=21&t=PF1soCgsTT_NEerDJm9Lfg Follow Club Shay Shay on Instagram: https://instagram.com/clubshayshay?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Follow Shannon Sharpe on Twitter: https://x.com/shannonsharpe?s=21&t=PF1soCgsTT_NEerDJm9Lfg Follow Club Shay Shay on Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@clubshayshaypod?_t=8fJ79WZy2fb&_r=1 About Club Shay Shay: Club Shay Shay is a weekly podcast hosted by Shannon Sharpe – 3x Super Bowl champion, member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and co-host of First Take on ESPN.
