France made sure its first Olympic volleyball medal would be gold, beating the Russian Olympic Committee team 25-23, 25-17, 21-25, 21-25, 15-12 Saturday night in a breakthrough win for a country that had no history of success. #Olympicvolleyballmedal, #franceteam , #olympics2021, France had qualified for the Olympics four times before this year and made it as far as the quarterfinals only once in 1988. But after a slow start that began with a 3-0 loss to the United States and a 2-3 record in pool play, the French men knocked off Pool A winner Poland in a five-set quarterfinal before sweeping Argentina in the semis and beating the Russians in a dramatic final to earn gold. Just when France seemed poised to blow the match, it mustered up enough energy to pull it out at the end. Jean Patry delivered a kill and an ace on back-to-back points to put the French ahead for good at 13-11. Antoine Brizard then surprised the Russians when he sent a soft shot over the net instead of setting it to give France match point. France won it 15-12 when Maxim Mikhaylov's shot went wide, sending the French pouring onto the court in celebration. DRAMATIC Volleyball Match | Brazil vs France | Semifinal | Men's VNL 2021 Brazil huddle as they take down France to make the final of the 2021 VNL. Brazil shut out France in compelling manner to claim the first ticket to the final of the 2021 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League.Brazil raze France for first ever shot at Men's VNL gold.Yoandy Leal strikes 20 times to lead South Americans into their first final. Mauricio Souza and Wallace de Souza are joined in celebration by Ricardo Lucarelli and Bruno Rezende as Brazil advance to their first ever FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League final with a striking win over France in the semifinals. Brazil produced a solid and convincing performance to sweep France 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-19) in Saturday's first semifinal of the 2021 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League and advance to Sunday's final. They are due to meet the winner of the second semifinal, between Slovenia and Poland. It was sweet revenge for Brazil, who had lost to France in the round-robin phase of the VNL. Brazil built up a healthy lead early on (in fact France fell and stayed behind after a brief lead at 2-1 in the first set). An injury of Isac Santos, who had to be replaced by Lucas Saatkamp at 18-15, allowed France to briefly draw level at 19-19, before Lucas himself stepped up to serve and lead Brazil to a 5-0 run that brought Brazil to set point and beyond the reach of France. It was anther 5-1 run for Brazil to close the second set, after again having led throughout. Yoandy Leal was causing all sorts of problems to the French reception and killing every ball that found it way to him and Mauricio Souza's blocking was letting nothing through. France coach Laurent Tillie tried to change the flow of the game, starting with Antoine Brizard setting in place of Benjamin Toniutti and brining on Trevor Clevenot on as opposite instead of Kevin Tillie. This balanced out the game - but just a bit. Brazil soon adapted to the change and carried on as usual to break away even before the second technical timeout before back-to-back points by Wallace with an ace on Clevenot and a great kill from the back row brought the match home. Leal with 20 points - 67% (18/27) in attack plus two aces - led the scoring for Brazil, with Wallace adding another 13 and Mauricio contributing five of his team's nine blocks. On the other side, Earvin Ngapeth provided a decent reception to his setters and some fair digging, but failed in attack, finishing the match on a mere 25% (4/16) efficiency, with Jean Patry producing his team's high scoring of 12 points. Other than the forced substitution of Isac early on, Brazil coach Carlos Schwanke kept his lineup unchanged throughout the game - not bringing on a single reserve at any point in the game. Regardless of the colour, it will be Brazil's first ever VNL medal after twice making the Final Four, but losing both times in the semifinals and the bronze medal matches at the 2018 and 2019 editions. France will meet the loser of the other semifinal for bronze on Sunday, prior to the grand final. -Like, Share, Subscribe- For More Volleyball content * 🔔 Don't Forget to Hit the Bell Icon 🔔 * All Credits by FIVB: Volleyball TV: https://go.volleyball.world/TV?ytv=d - Watch ALL the Volleyball Action https://go.volleyball.world/TV?ytv=d - Subscribe NOW https://go.volleyball.world/Subscribe... - News, Schedules, Results & more: https://go.volleyball.world/VNL?ytv=d FOLLOW VOLLEYBALL WORLD ON SOCIAL MEDIA Instagram: https://go.volleyball.world/Instagram... Jean Patry (France): "I think that Brazil played very, very well today. We didn't have good mentality to play this game. We lost a lot of simple points. We are disappointed, because it was not a good game for us, not a game which we expected. We were bad in defence and it was a key part of the game in my opinion. We have to find our shape and a proper attitude ahead of tomorrow's match. It's really hard to play for 3rd place. We have to restart and open the game better tomorrow. We have to find more energy. We have to talk together and try to win tomorrow." Yoandy Leal (Brazil): "Our team was very concentrated on this match. We lost to France during the preliminary round, but today it was a great match of our entire team. Tomorrow we play for gold. The concentration of our team was the most important to play the game like this one. We served very well, we attacked very well and we put a lot of pressure on France. No matter if we will play against Poland or Slovenia, we have to be prepared and fully focused on our team and our preparation." ►► Subscribe NOW & hit the bell! 🔔: https://go.volleyball.world/Subscribe... ▶▶ Watch ALL the Volleyball action https://go.volleyball.world/TV?ytv=d FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA 📱 Instagram: https://go.volleyball.world/Instagram... France remain in the chase of the table leaders for a ticket to the Final Four of the 2021 FIVB Men's Volleyball Nations League after coming back from a set down to defeat Canada in four. Here's the reaction after the game, from the virtual Mixed Zone: Lucas Van Berkel (Canada): "We came out strong, which was good to see. France are a good team so of course they responded like that and we did not expect anything less. We knew that was going to be a tough battle even after the first set. We had some good plays, but that was it. Both sides were pretty good in defence, they blocked pretty well, but France just made less errors - we made more and I think that was the difference." Jean Patry (France): "It was a difficult game at the beginning. We tried a different group to make some changes and to give a chance to other players, but it didn't work, so we tried to play better after that with some modifications in the lineup, so we put other players on the court and it worked. I'm happy that we won. I think the engagement of the team that we showed on the court was important." ►► Subscribe NOW & hit the bell! 🔔: https://go.volleyball.world/Subscribe... ▶▶ Watch ALL the Volleyball action https://go.volleyball.world/TV?ytv=d FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA 📱 Instagram: https://go.volleyball.world/Instagram... Here's the reaction after the game, from the virtual Mixed Zone: Taishi Onodera (Japan): "France served very well and it made a difference. We should have been more aggressive in serving, too. They had good serving and good passing skills, so we tried to catch up with them. It didn't work today, but maybe next time." Antoine Brizard (France): "It was a tough battle - it's always tough to play against the teams that receive so well like Japan do. We knew that they would defend a lot, and they did it - as always. We also defended a lot also, so it was interesting. In the tie-break we started well and then they came back, but it felt good to take the lead again winning three or four points. We managed to do it well." ►► Subscribe NOW & hit the bell! 🔔: https://go.volleyball.world/Subscribe... ▶▶ Watch ALL the Volleyball action https://go.volleyball.world/TV?ytv=d FOLLOW US ON SOCIAL MEDIA 📱 Instagram: https://go.volleyball.world/Instagram...
