Beim dritten Rennen der Formel-1-Saison 2023 fuhren George Russell und Lewis Hamilton auf die Startplätze zwei und drei. Ist damit der Fehlstart vergessen? Teamchef Toto Wolff hatte bereits nach dem ersten Qualifying des Jahres in Bahrain den Notstand ausgerufen. Das Konzept war fehlgeschlagen, ein neues sollte her. Die Entwicklung hat bereits begonnen, die ersten Erfolge sollen bereits im Windkanal zu sehen sein. Doch war das vielleicht gar nicht nötig? Steckt doch noch mehr Performance im W14 drin? Max Verstappen ließ sich von all dem nicht beeindrucken: er fuhr dennoch auf die Pole Position, wenn auch mit einem geringeren Vorsprung als bei den ersten beiden Rennen. Sein Teamkollege Sergio Perez fehlte im Q3. Er erlebte einen rabenschwarzen Samstag in Melbourne. Auch bei Ferrari lief es für Charles Leclerc und Carlos Sainz nicht rund. Jetzt fehlte auch der Speed im Qualifying. Dafür hagelte es von einigen Fahrern harsche Kritik an den Ideen der Formel 1, ab Baku ein zweites Qualifying an Sprintrennwochenenden abzuhalten, zum Beispiel als Einzelzeitfahren.
