Canelo Alvarez and Christian Mbilli have reportedly signed a deal to face each other in September. It marks Alvarez's first outing since dropping his undisputed super middleweight titles to Terence Crawford last September. He now has to chance pick up one of his old belts against Mbilli, who was elevated from interim to full WBC champion earlier this year after Crawford was stripped of the green and gold strap. According to Ring Magazine, the pair will headline a 'Mexico vs the World' event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. While the report did not explicitly mention a date, it is understood that the bout is being lined up for September 12, to commemorate Mexican Independence Day weekend. Alvarez skipped his usual Cinco De Mayo date in May to undergo surgery on his left elbow. After completing his rehabilitation, he is now ready to lock horns with Mbilli, whose last fight fell on the Alvarez vs Crawford undercard. Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs) was held to a split draw by Lester Martinez at Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium in an enthralling defence of his interim belt. He captured the secondary title by blowing away Poland's Maciej Sulecki in one round last June. Alvarez’s loss to Crawford via unanimous decision in Las Vegas, Nevada was just the third of his storied combat career — the other two came against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Dmitry Bivol — and snapped his six-fight win streak. Alvarez was hoping to secure a rematch against Crawford but “Bud” ultimately decided to retire as an undefeated (42-0), four-division champion. Now, Canelo has the chance to once again become champion with a win over Mbilli. Speaking of which, the Cameroonian-French Canadian champion is currently undefeated at 29-0-1 and was elevated from interim title holder to WBC world super middleweight champion after the strap was stripped from the aforementioned Terence Crawford. Mbilli was ordered to fight against Hamzah Sheeraz — who also had his eye on a fight against Alvarez — though it ultimately fell through. With 24 knockouts to his name, Mbilli has the chance to secure the biggest win of his pro career, which could set him up for bigger fights moving forward. At 35 years of age, however, Canelo is still fairly young and is determined to prove his naysayers that he has plenty to offer the fight game. Saúl "Canelo" Álvarez, also known as "Canelo" or "Canelo Alvarez" is a Mexican professional boxer. He has held multiple world championships in four weight classes, from light middleweight to light heavyweight, including unified titles in three of those weight classes. In 2021, Álvarez became the first boxer in history to become the undisputed[a] super middleweight champion, before becoming a two-time undisputed super middleweight champion in 2025. He also held the Ring magazine super middleweight title from 2020 to 2025. Christian M'billi is a Cameroonian-French Canadian professional boxer who has held the World Boxing Council (WBC) super-middleweight title since January 2026. David Benavidez is an American professional boxer who has held world championships in two weight classes. He has held the World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight title (Regular version) since February 2025 and the World Boxing Council (WBC) light heavyweight title since April 2025. Previously, he held the WBC super middleweight title twice between 2017 and 2020. Claiming his first world title at 20 years, eight months, three weeks and one day old, Benavidez holds the record as the youngest super middleweight world champion in history. A chilling entrance that will be remembered forever, followed by an absolute masterclass in striking precision. THE MATCHUP: UFC 276 set the stage for a classic striker's duel as reigning Middleweight king Israel "The Last Stylebender" Adesanya faced off against the terrifying knockout artist, Jared "Killa Gorilla" Cannonier. The psychological warfare peaked before a single punch was even thrown, with Adesanya making an iconic, spine-chilling walkout to The Undertaker’s theme music, ominously carrying an urn with his opponent's name on it. THE BATTLE: Fully aware of the devastating power Cannonier held in his hands, the champion executed a flawless, risk-free game plan. Adesanya turned the Octagon into his personal chessboard. Two of the most dynamic personalities will square off on Saturday, August 22, live on DAZN PPV and Prime Video when Rolly Romero puts the WBA welterweight title at stake against former two-division world champion Teofimo Lopez from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) last competed in May 2025 when he knocked down and defeated Ryan Garcia to win the WBA (regular) welterweight belt at Times Square in New York City. He got elevated to full champion status after Jaron "Boots" Ennis moved up to 154 pounds. After a proposed bout with Devin Haney fell through, the focus shifted to "The Takeover". Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) is making his debut at 147 pounds. Normally, a bout to get accustomed to the weight happens. But Lopez wanted to jump right into the fire against Romero. He looks to get back on track in a big way and become a three-division world champion after losing his WBO and Ring Magazine belts to Shakur Stevenson in January. WBA welterweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) and former two-division champion Teofimo Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) went face to face Thursday at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles to officially announce their 12-round world title fight Saturday, August 22 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout headlines a PBC pay-per-view promoted by TGB Promotions in association with Takeover Promotions. The press conference opened with the announcement of a distribution agreement between PBC and DAZN that will bring PBC fight nights to the platform worldwide, with the August 22 pay-per-view also available on Prime Video. WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora, WBA featherweight champion Brandon Figueroa, interim WBC middleweight champion Jesus Ramos Jr. and IBF bantamweight champion Jose Salas Reyes appeared as part of that portion of the program. Normally, a fight promotion involves animosity of some sort. Reasons are sometimes known. Sometimes they are not. In the case of Rolly Romero and Teofimo Lopez at Thursday's press conference to promote their Aug. 22 DAZN PPV headliner, the exchanges were friendly, but there was an underlying tension between the two. Things started early when Romero was talking, and Lopez's father, Teofimo Sr., was going back and forth. Teofimo Sr. said that after the two had trained in the past, they stopped hearing from Romero after he lost to Gervonta Davis in May 2022. As the presser went on, the talk was calm, and the tension seemed to have soothed. Lopez provided a different account. "We are kinda like beating around the bush of it," Lopez said of the animosity. "The time is up. We got to fight each other. We got to settle it in the ring. That’s why it’s a real man’s sport. If you got problems, you settle it in the boxing ring." The cool, calm, and collected Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) appeared to have a different perspective. Although it was hard to tell with Romero's sarcasm throughout the press conference, which included the WBA welterweight champion receiving a duck stuffed animal from Lopez that the native of Las Vegas quipped was WBO champion, Devin Haney. "Me and Teo ain’t friends," Romero said. "He’s my little brother at the end of it. If I’m to lose this belt or to defend my belt, I’d rather have it be with him than anyone else. Only God knows what’s going to happen." Teofimo Lopez is looking to regain his world champion status when he challenges WBA (Super) welterweight champion Rolando Romero in August, but ‘The Takeover’ already knows the fight that he wants to come after that outing. Lopez dethroned lineal champions in Vasyl Lomachenko and Josh Taylor when he claimed world honours at lightweight and super-lightweight respectively, but he was outclassed by Shakur Stevenson back in January – losing his WBO 140lb title by a wide unanimous decision. The Brooklyn-based 28-year-old has wasted no time in thrusting himself back into the mix though, accepting a shot at Romero’s WBA world title upon his 147lb debut, seeking to become a three-division world champion. In an interview with Ring Magazine, Lopez looked ahead to the fight and admitted that Romero’s awkwardness is what makes him a difficult obstacle, and highlighted it as the reason why he was able to trump Ryan Garcia last year. Australian superstar and former world champion Tim Tszyu took home a unanimous decision victory over former unified world champion Errol “The Truth” Spence Jr. in their middleweight bout that headlined a PBC Pay-Per-View event available on Prime Video and DAZN Saturday night (U.S. date and time) from Afterpay Arena in Sydney Australia. “Middleweight is my new division and I feel strong,” said Tszyu. “This was one hell of a show. There were sleepless nights where I was thinking about facing a legend like Spence. I understand why he’s one of the greats.” In a pivotal showdown for two fighters looking to return to world championship glory, Spence (28-2, 22 KOs) and Tszyu (28-3, 18 KOs) each landed big shots in round one, with Tszyu knocking Spence off balance with a right hand before Spence responded with a clean left hand that Tszyu appeared to take well. The first half of the fight saw a back and forth effort with the two fighters trading strong rounds as Spence targeted Tszyu’s body early while Tszyu primarily scored with right hooks against his southpaw opponent. In his first fight in nearly three years, Spence seemed to have trouble keeping up his early round activity through the middle rounds of the fight, as the younger Tszyu began to implement a body attack of his own. “The advice from corner was to get in there,” said Tszyu. “I’m trying to replicate Kostya Tszyu and my trainer Jeff Fenech, if I can be half as great as them, I’ll go down as a great man.” When the fight entered the championship rounds, Spence came out looking to change the tide of the fight and fought valiantly, but was often met with thudding shots from Tszyu, much to the delight of his hometown Australian fans. Tszyu punctuated his performance with a smartly fought final round, peppering Spence with carefully selected shots to the head and body that forced his opponent to back up again and again. In the end Tszyu was able to pull away on the cards and keep his family’s perfect record in Australia intact with scores of 118-110 and 117-111 twice. “I’d love to fight for a world title. I want Erislandy Lara and all the champions,” said Tszyu. “That’s what I’m aiming for. But beating a great like Errol Spence tops any world title for me.” After the fight, Spence addressed his future while giving Tszyu credit for his performance. “It was a good fight and congratulation to Tim,” said Spence. “It’s been a great event and everyone has treated me well. It was a good showing by Tim. “I answered a lot of questions for myself and now it’s time to go home with my family and start a new life. I’ve got my faculties intact and my money is working for itself. I’m thankful to leave this sport with my family by my side.” #SpenceTszyu #ErrolSpenceJr #TimTszyu Visit PremierBoxingChampions.com for more info.
