'It's a dream come true!' | Welcome to The Arsenal, Matty Turner | First Interview
Goalkeeper Matt Turner has joined us on a long-term contract from MLS side New England Revolution. The 28-year-old USA international has made 18 appearances for his country since making his international debut in January 2021. He started all six matches on the way to the United States winning the 2021 CONCACAF Gold Cup and has also been an integral part of the squad which has won qualification to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. After graduating from Fairfield University, Connecticut, Matt joined Jersey Express in the US Premier Development League for one season, before signing for New England Revolution in 2016. Matt made 102 appearances for New England Revolution during his six years with the MLS side, being voted both the fans’ and teammates Most Valuable Player in 2020. In August 2021 he was selected to represent the MLS in the 2021 MLS All-Star Game, where he saved two penalties and was voted MVP. Matt also spent a successful loan spell in the United Soccer League with Richmond Kickers in 2016 at the start of his time with New England Revolution. Mikel Arteta said: “Matt is an experienced goalkeeper who will bring high quality to our squad. He has shown with his performances in recent years in both the MLS and at international level with the United States that he is a goalkeeper who will give us added strength going into next season. We welcome Matt and his family to the club and we look forward to working together in the years to come.” Technical director Edu added: “We are delighted that Matt is joining us. Matt is a goalkeeper with established qualities and experience, who will be a great addition to our squad. We identified Matt some time ago and worked hard to ensure that his transfer was complete so he could join us in time for our pre-season in July. With Arsenal already having made the first moves in the transfer window, our technical director Edu has outlined our recruitment strategy this summer. Brazil youth international forward Marquinhos was the first to arrive in June. The 19 year old has joined from Sao Paulo, and will seen as very much one for the future. More recently we completed the signing of Portugal under-21 international midfielder Fabio Vieira. The 22 year old was an integral player at Porto, and was named Player of the Tournament at the recent European Under-21 Championships in Hungary and Slovenia. Welcome to The Arsenal, Fabio Vieira! | First Interview
Fabio Vieira has joined us from FC Porto on a long-term contract. and you can watch his first Arsenal interview, presented by Sokin. The 22 year-old midfielder, who made 54 appearances during his time with Porto, developed through the Portuguese club’s youth academy, making his first team debut in June 2020 and was part of the Primeira Liga winning squads in both 2019/20 and 2021/22. Fabio is a Portuguese Under-21 international and has scored an impressive 13 goals from his 21 appearances. He also represented his country at youth level, playing all five tournament matches as Portugal finished runners-up at the 2019 UEFA Under-19 Championship. During last season’s Primeira Liga winning season, Fabio made 27 appearances, scoring six goals and making 14 assists during the league campaign. Technical Director Edu said: “We’re so pleased to have completed the signing of Fabio from FC Porto. Fabio is a player with special qualities who is comfortable with the ball in the final third of the pitch. We are all looking forward to working with him and enjoying his future contribution to Arsenal. We will now continue to work hard and are looking forward to finishing this transfer window as strongly possible.” Mikel Arteta added: ”I am very excited that we have identified and signed such a special talent.
