This has led to a speculation that CSK might be trying to get him in the IPL 2022 Mega auction. Also CSK tried to transfer Samson in the IPL 2021 transfer window as per reports. CSK and RCB tried trading off Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals: Aakash Chopra Soon after all eight franchises in the Indian Premier League (IPL) submitted there list of players retained and released, one of the moves which became a talking point was Rajasthan Royals (RR) releasing skipper Steve Smith ahead of the IPL mini auction. More surprisingly, the one-time IPL winners also decided to promote youngster Sanju Samson as the skipper of the team. The move is said to be a big gamble considering Samson is yet to prove himself as a world-class batsman. As the lists were released on Star Sports’ Cricket Connected, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra made a big revelation by saying that he came to know that two popular franchises – Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as well as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) tried luring Samson, looking to trade him off from the Royals ahead of the announcement. “I have come to know that there were 2 teams who were trying to poach Sanju Samson, trying to lure him. One was Royal Challengers Bangalore and the other was Chennai Super Kings. After being approached by these two franchises, even the Royals would have thought to not only retain Samson but also increase his stature in the team,” Chopra said. Chopra backed Royals’ move to let go of skipper Smith saying 12.5 crore was a huge amount for him and that he doesn’t think any franchise will bid that much amount for the former Australian captain. “I don’t like the idea of an overseas captain. When you go with an overseas captain, he is 25% of your resource from the overseas lot. I think it’s a good move to release Steve Smith. I don’t think he is worth Rs 12.5 crore. I would be very surprised if someone bids this much for him,” Chopra said. At the same time, the two new sides will be allowed to have three players outside of the bidding event. For the unversed, IPL is set to expand in 2022 with two new teams coming into the picture. Hence, one will see 10 teams battling it out for the prestigious title. A mega auction is also set to take place ahead of the competition which would see many teams going under major revamps. While an official announcement is yet to come, the existing franchises will reportedly be able to retain four players heading into the auction event. Existing 8 teams can retain up to four players “The 8 existing team will first get the opportunity to retain a maximum of 4 Players and thereafter the 2 new teams will be able to retain a maximum of 3 players before the auction,” the BCCI said in a mail to the franchises on Saturday afternoon (October 30), Cricbuzz reported. The report further claimed that the franchises will have to give the retention list by November 30. Once the retained players are confirmed, the new teams will have the option to bag players before the auction event. Also, the salary purse of each team for IPL 2022 will be a whopping INR 90 crore. “The window for the 8 existing teams to retain the players will be from the 1st November 2021 to 30th November 2021. Thereafter the 2 new teams will have the window to retain the players starting from 1st December 2021 to 25th December 2021,” the mail read further. Meanwhile, the names of the other two teams are yet to be finalized. However, the base cities and franchise owners are confirmed. While Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG Group successfully bid for the Lucknow franchise, CVC Capitals Partners claimed the Ahmedabad-based team. With firms and organizations breaking their banks to become a part of IPL, BCCI earned a whopping INR 12,690 crore from the two new franchises. Notably, IPL is set to become a 10-team event for the first time since 2013. Maxwell, Warner and Smith may leave IPL | CSK Sam curran and England players too | IPL News Tamil #ipl #ipl2021 #csk #ipl2021 #iplnewstamil #ipl2021tamil #iplschedule #iplnews #vivoipl Steve Smith, David Warner mulling option to withdraw from IPL 2021: Report With Australia looking to bar entry of all flights from India, Aussie players like David Warner and Steve Smith could pull out of IPL 2021 soon, as per a report. The rising cases in India and the havoc it is causing all across the country is spine-chilling for several reasons. Though cricketers participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 are secure in the bio-bubble, some have still decided to pull out of the tournament mid-way and head back home. It has now been learned that the Australian duo of Steve Smith and David Warner could also decide to follow the suit and head home before Australia's borders are shut for people coming in from India. The likes of Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson decided to end their IPL 2021 stint mid-way over fear of virus. With the hospitals struggling to allocate beds, medicines, oxygen and other resources for those affected by the virus, apprehensions among players over contracting the virus are evident. “Australian cricketers including David Warner and Steve Smith are now hoping to be flown home to India before borders shut,” news agency IANS quoted 9News as saying. "We have got 30 players, coaches and commentators that are very keen to get out of India naturally given the deteriorating situation that they are facing health-wise right across the country," the report added. Richardson and Zampa both were playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore while Tye was in the Rajasthan Royals squad. With these three withdrawing, the IPL 2021 now has 14 Aussie players left. With Australia deciding to bar entry for flyers from India over the fear of allowing the double-strain Indian virus into the country, a situation could arise where certain Australian players are locked out of their own country. Another Aussie pacer, Nathan Coulter-Nile, said termed the IPL bio-bubble 'safer than finding a way back home' and is prepared to quarantine in a third country for a while if entry into Australia directly from India is barred. According to Channel9, talks of bringing Warner, Smith as well as coaches like Ricky Ponting, David Hussey and Simon Katich back home have taken place but nothing concrete has come up. Brett Lee, Michael Slater and Matthew Hayden are also in India as part of the commentary team. They could also be flown home if a decision to take such a step is taken by Cricket Australia. "I'm just going to wait and see how that plays out. Worst comes to worst, we'll have to quarantine in Dubai for a couple of weeks before we can fly home. But I'm sure it will get sorted," Aussie pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile told cricket.com.au. A complete ban on flights from India could be enforced. The subject is to be discussed in the National Security Committee of Cabinet meeting in Australia. IPL 2020 | IPL Latest News | Mega IPL auction in 2021? | Tamil Cricket News | IPL News Tamil Reports: BCCI planning to add ninth team ahead of IPL 2021 auction The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), reportedly, is wasting no time in gearing up for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The previous season ended on Tuesday, November 10 with Mumbai Indians (MI), captained by Rohit Sharma, lifting the title for the fifth time, beating the Delhi Capitals (DC) by five wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Earlier, Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI president, stated that the upcoming edition of the T20 tournament will be taking place in April-May. Hence, it’s understandable that with not much time left, the world’s richest cricket board has already started planning for the next auction. The auction generally takes place in the month of December and January, but it could be delayed this time. IPL 2021 could return to India In the meantime, as per reports in The Hindu, the BCCI hierarchy has, informally, indicated the franchises that the auction would be scheduled early in 2021. It’s also learned that the T20 tournament could return to India after the previous edition had to be moved to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to the rise in the cases in India over the last few months. In fact, if reports are to be believed, the reason behind the full auction is that “the BCCI has plans to add a ninth team” for the 2021 season. It’s learned to be a strategical move, keeping in mind the financial front in the problem situation. Prior to the 2020 edition, the BCCI was in all sorts of troubles with sponsors backing out, but it has managed to conduct the event without troubles.
