Allen Iverson would almost always rather drive to the basket than settle for a jumper. Seattle's porous defense gave him ample opportunity to dart down the lane for all the easy baskets he wanted. Iverson scored 41 points, John Salmons had 18 and Kyle Korver 17 to lead the Philadelphia 76ers over the SuperSonics 107-98 on Monday night. Although Iverson said he's still slightly bothered by his right ankle, which he sprained Dec. 27 at Denver, it hardly showed as he had one of his top shooting nights of the season. "It's getting a lot better with treatment and everything, and I'm able to push off it like I want to," Iverson said. "Once it gets loose, I'm able to move around like I want to. I try to get to the basket." Certainly returning home provided an immediate fix for the slumping Sixers. When they left for a 15-day, seven-game trip, they were in first place in the Atlantic Division; they returned four games back in the division race after a 2-5 mark. "If we closed games out better, we'd have a lot more wins," Iverson said. "I honesty feel like we gave away eight games this season, games we should have won." The Sonics have been just as bad, finishing 1-4 on a trip that saw them fire Bob Weiss and replace the coach with Bob Hill. Hill promised a quicker pace and improvement on defense as ways to turn around Seattle's disappointing season. Seattle's league-worst defense still needs work. Iverson scored 40-plus points for the eighth time this season as he chases Kobe Bryant for the league scoring title. Iverson wasn't the only one getting open looks -- the Sixers shot 53 percent from the field, seven points higher than their average. Chris Webber sat out with a lower back strain and was listed as day-to-day. Coach Maurice Cheeks was hopeful that rest would allow Webber to return for Wednesday's game against Utah. Salmons started in Webber's place and hardly missed a beat on 7-for-9 shooting. Andre Iguodala had 16 points and Samuel Dalembert 11 to put all five starters in double digits. "That's how you should play," Iverson said. "When you do share the ball, nine times out of 10, more positive results come of it." Ray Allen led the Sonics with 27 points and Vladimir Radmanovic had 15 points and 12 rebounds. The Sonics rallied from a 19-point deficit to pull within six late in the fourth quarter -- hardly surprising since only Seattle allows more points than the Sixers -- after 3-pointers by Allen and a couple of free throws from Rashard Lewis. Korver, though, sank his fifth 3-pointer and Salmons added a 3 to get the lead back to nine. Stuck on 39 points for a while, Iverson sank two free throws to push him over 40 and give the Sixers a 106-95 lead. "We took control of the game and shut them down," Dalembert said. "We controlled the tempo of the game and didn't really let them get back in." Iverson scored nine points during a 19-5 run in the third quarter that gave the Sixers a 79-60 lead. Iverson usually drove through a lane that offered little resistance and little reason for the All-Star to resort to his usual banging and crashing all over the court. Iverson went 6-for-8 in third for 18 points and the Sixers shot 68 percent in the quarter. Hill blamed fatigue from a long road trip for the Sonics going flat in the third. "We played pretty well in the first half, then I'm sure our legs got tired," Hill said. "We wouldn't move and we weren't guarding. Away games are tough, but they have to find a way to fight fatigue. That was a winnable game." With the easy looks, and a mid-range jumper that was on target, Iverson finished 15-for-25 from the floor and made 11 of 13 free throws. Game notes Korver hit a 3-pointer for the 26th straight game, the longest streak in the league. ... Sonics F Danny Fortson sat out with a sore left knee and C Vitaly Potapenko sat out with a lower back strain. ... Iverson was briefly shaken up when he was smacked in the face by Luke Ridnour while they went after a loose ball in the third quarter. ... Iverson has 67 career games with more than 40 points. ... The Sixers are 8-0 at home against the Western Conference.

Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bradley Beal, & More) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPa_aPPuDZU Welcome to Hoopers Nation where we go over the latest NBA 2020 news, from life inside the NBA bubble to the backstories of players in the league. Today, we look at the Miami Heat and what they pulled in the 2020 NBA playoffs. Jimmy Butler came into the NBA bubble and just wrecked havoc with the rest of his team, steamrolling the Giannis and the Bucks and moving past the Pacers with ease. Now Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Erik Spoelstra, and the rest of the crew have stepped up in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Heat beat the Boston Celtics in game 6, advancing to the NBA Finals to face LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers. #HoopersNation #MiamiHeat #NBA It was early December 2019, almost ten months ago, when Jimmy Butler had a sit-down interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols. The Heat was firing on all cylinders at that point, as they were undefeated at home throughout the first six weeks of the regular season and everything was going great in South Beach. In a half-jokingly manner, Nichols asked Butler about his team’s chances at making the NBA Finals. “Why not?” Butler answered. “I don’t see why we can’t. As long as we play hard, if we make shots for sure, but we got to be able to say our defense is our anchor.” At that time, Butler – or nobody for that instance – had any idea that a global pandemic would force the league to shut down less than a month before the NBA playoffs started and completely alter the landscape of NBA basketball as we knew it. No more crowds, no more long traveling or nights with little sleep, no more life distractions; the whole focus would be winning and basketball when the NBA resumed its season and held the 2020 playoffs inside the NBA Bubble. Jimmy surprisingly rejected the option he had to bring in family members to the Bubble for the playoffs, saying this is a “business trip.” He wants to be alone, fully focused on what’s ahead for his team. This NBA Bubble is exactly the environment Butler thrives in. And this is exactly the reason why the Heat made everything in their power to get Butler last offseason. The Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler always sounded like a match made in heaven. Butler is a fierce competitor that prides on his great defense and guts to take and make timely and clutch shots; the Heat has long been an organization that has a defensive-first approach and likes to get the job done through team basketball. Miami was in desperate need of a star that could help them take their young core to the next level as they transitioned from the Dwyane Wade era. Butler just wanted a place where he could go compete for a championship, and be himself. “[Dwyane Wade] always told me the culture, the way that they work here, it’s you in every single way,” Butler said. “When I got here I could do nothing but smile, because of the way everyone talks to each other, the way everything is laid out on the table, you come in and work and then we have fun. This is the reason I play the game. These guys are like me in so many ways that I absolutely love being here, to compete with and for these guys. I’m having so much fun.” Butler is indeed having the time of his life in Miami, but it’s widely known he has butted heads with teammates and even coaches in the past for multiple reasons: lack of accountability, little competitiveness, passiveness; the list goes on and on. He infamously beat up the Timberwolves starters with the ‘third stringers’ shortly before being traded away from Minnesota, and chemistry issues prevented the Sixers from reaching their full potential last season. But ask anybody in the Heat’s locker room and they’ll dismiss the notion Butler is disruptive or a ‘locker room cancer’, as many labeled him. "Jimmy, despite probably what the narrative is out there, he's a very likable guy in the locker room and I think that helps in a setting like this,” said Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra after one of their wins over the Bucks. “He is the ultimate competitor,” added teammate Meyers Leonard. “Everybody wondered, ‘Oh, well, is he too competitive? Or is he an a**hole?’ No, he’s not. He’s a winner.” Veteran Andre Iguodala put it best when he said, "He was disruptive toward his other teammates, but you put him around some guys that actually want to get to the grind, what did he do for them?
We finally have our NBA finals matchup. The Heat vs the Lakers. And even tho both teams know that to win a championship you have to be ready against anybody, I have a feeling that if you gave truth serum to Lebron James and the Lakers, all of them will tell you that they wanted Boston in the finals, and not Miami. Let me explain why that is, and why this could be a great finals series. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. I could tell you all about how the Lakers won the 2 regular season games, but in reality their last meeting was in December. Almost a year ago. Since then obviously we saw Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro grow right before our eyes into knockdown shooters. And Bam Adebayo took the next step and is hitting his stride with the latest performance of career high 32 points, and 14 rebounds in the close out game 6 against the Celtics. So yeah, let’s talk about what we can expect from this finals matchup. Throughout the playoffs, The Lakers have averaged almost 41 points per game on 71% from the restricted area. These numbers are by far the best for any team in the postseason. So you know that they’ll be doing the damage inside. Thing is, instead of Daniel Theis trying to hold on for dear life against Anthony Davis, the Heat have Bam who is far more dangerous both defensively with his strength and quickness but infinitely more on offense as I previously mentioned his numbers and there is no comparison on that end between him and Theis. Miami can also rely on their zone and force the Lakers into making shots. All of a sudden, players like Danny Green, Kuzma and KCP become very important. And we’ve seen the first 2 struggle at times, so if the zone got the Heat past Boston- a way better suited team against this type of defense, then I’m sure that Erik Spoelstra’s group believes that they can win against LA. It’s also going to be fun seeing Lebron matched up against Iguodala yet again in the finals. And there’s gonna be help from guys like Crowder and Jimmy Butler. It’s interesting, It’s almost as if the Heat built this team knowing that they’ll go to the finals and battle against James. Anyway, I also wanted to point out that perimeter defenders like playoff Rondo and Carusso will absolutely hound Tyler Herro, in the minutes when he fills in for Dragic at point guard. He’s been the Heat’s designated backup point guard, but that’s not his natural position and you could see throughout the Celtics series. Herro struggled with his ball handling against dogs like Brown and Smart, so you already know that a mastermind like Rondo already took notes and will attack him on defense. So look for that it’s going to be a fun Tom and Jerry type of chasing. If you ask me to tell you who won without watching the game I will look at 2 stats. Points in the paint and 3 point shooting. If there’s a big difference, I’ll know that either the Lakers overpowered Miami and scored inside so they won, or the Heat shot the ball as they are capable of with the snipers that they have, so they were able to get a win. Of course, a lot more is in play but these are just some things for you to watch out for. All in all, trust me when I tell you this is going to be a hard fought battle, with both teams having a lot of talent but a lot of dogs as I said, and they will go all out in the pursuit for the championship. Ya boy is bullish on the Heat. I picked them against the Bucks, so I’m picking them again against the Lakers, knowing full well that they are the clear underdog here. But if you said this to Jimmy Butler and company there’s no way they agree, so they’re not backing down in this fight. Let me know in the comments who you got in the finals and why. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
