What the Utah Jazz are doing on a basketball court is similar to ballet choreography. Check this out. As Mike Conley drops it down to the big man, he will set an off ball screen for Malik Beasley to potentially fire away a 3. You see that if Brown switches this, Conley has KCP on his back and the lane is open for him to get a layup. So the Nuggets play it straight up. In this case, Pope is trailing behind a 42% shooter from downtown so Green shows up top and this is where the dance begins, as we got the bounce pass to Kessler, who doesn’t force a contested shot and immediately looks for the extra pass. Sexton could have shot it but he also passes it to Mike, who once again swings it back to Beasley for the open 3 that splashes through the net. Their synchronized movement, along with the perfect timing and precision of the passes, gives me this type of vibes. So since everyone is asking- let me finally reveal the secret to how the Utah Jazz are shocking the entire NBA world. Of course with the right music. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Utah’s bread and butter is the 3 point shot. They’re 3rd in makes in 4th in attempts so they shoot a lot and make a lot of them. But they consistently get good looks which is the most interesting. And this is how. Just like in the first play, the quickness of the movement is key, as we got the pick and the great roll by Vanderbuilt who now forces a rotation, and as soon as he gets the ball he immediately starts looking for that next guy, which in this case is Clarkson. Passes to him, and Jordan with the extra pass to the corner for the wide open Rudy Gay. You need to see it in full speed to appreciate how crucial their speed of execution is. And against Atlanta watch the 2 men game here as Conley first fakes going inside before going back to the Olynyk screen which gets Trae caught up here and now Collins has to help and eventually switch. As Kelly immediately cuts to the basket, we got the bounce pass and the layup inside. The Jazz are number 6 in assists per game, which compared to last season when they ranked 27th in the league is an unbelievable turnaround. Again, look at all the movement here as we got the handoff for Conley, then the screen for Gay and the immediate roll, as Rudy lasers the pass there, and with the defense collapsing, the pass to the corner for the open shot. Bang. But as beautiful as this ball movement and player movement looks, these are pretty basic plays right? But why they work is the same reason why their defense works. Let me explain. Utah has the second best offense in the league, and as surprising as that sounds, we saw the great looks that they get. But even more shocking is possibly the fact that they have a top 10 defense. A team that was constructed to lose, with a bunch of gunners that we all thought would just think of how they can get their own shot without worrying about defense, they are top 10 on that end. And sure we can talk about the great individual defense here by Vanderbuilt, hounding Edwards and staying disciplined to be straight up here and deny the drive. We can also talk about the nice awareness here by Walker Kessler as he’s following the play and makes the right rotation on time to go up for this block. But the core reason for all of this is effort. Will Hardy has this team bought into his philosophy of just playing incredibly hard, and executing every play with great energy. Heck, they even got Jordan Clarkson to play great defense, with the textbook form of hand in the passing lane for this steal. Or the way he reads the offense right here and already sees the next pass and where that’s going to go for another steal. And not to mention this spectacular moment which first of all nobody would even attempt to chase down Zion on a fast break. But the incredible extra effort by Clarkson right here is the perfect example of how this team plays. There is not a single guy on this team that hogs the ball or dribbles 10 or more seconds before making a decision. This is old school San Antonio type of system. Shoot, pass or drive. Make that decision in 2 seconds or less. And that is amazing to watch. Can this pace be sustained however? Who knows. But the energy and effort on offense and defense is why they are successful and why I constantly tune in specifically to watch them play. Utah is a great story early on and I really hope that they can keep this up. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

Install Raid for Free ✅ IOS/ANDROID/PC: https://clcr.me/HeatCheck and get a special starter pack 💥 Available only for the next 30 days This is Klay Thompson sitting on the bench in an almost empty arena, long after the game ended. He would sit like this with the towel on for an entire 30 minutes as Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Steve Kerr would later come to talk to him. After a while, a small group of fans that were still in the arena showed support by chanting his name, which brought a smile from Klay. It’s been 2 and a half years since the last time Thompson played an NBA game, and this long rehab process took a toll on him, and you can clearly see that in some of the latest interviews or videos from Klay. This is not the same old Klay Thompson. Let me show you and explain everything. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Before we dive into some of his recent situations, let me just remind you that the last time he stepped on the court, Anthony Davis was still on the Pelicans and Westbrook was still in OKC. Since then he played for the Rockets, the Wizards, and is now of course with the Lakers. That’s how long Klay has been out. You remember this, getting out on the court and literally trying to play through a torn ACL. Check out the intensity. Back to the video. If it looks odd to you that Thompson is having these down moments now, at the end of the recovery road, Draymond Green said in his press conference that his teammate has been having days like that from time to time throughout the entire process. And he did a great job of explaining why that was the case. Sadness, but also anger has been another emotion that he’s shown publicly, and that was the case after the top 75 players were revealed, and he wasn’t on the list. See what he’s saying but more importantly the tone with which he talks. You can literally feel all of the anger and frustration in his voice. The most interesting thing to me here is this: Remember that jersey with the number 77 that Steph Curry made for him as a joke symbolizing that he’s the 77th best NBA player? Well Thompson was a good sport and wore the jersey and they all had a laugh about it. But the thing is, he is still rocking that same jersey in practice, as a motivation and a constant reminder that he was left out. He wants to keep that in his mind and fuel him as he works his way back. And on the workout videos or in pictures, you may have noticed that he has this colored ball with him all the time. During these tough 2+ years, Thompson tried to find something to keep his spirit up. He got a bit of help through some superstition. Again, his tone is so telling that you almost feel like you’ve been with him throughout the entire rehab process. But speaking of that, we’re now just weeks away from seeing Klay back on the court again, and to add him in the mix to an already blazing hot Golden State team both offensively and defensively, Thompson repeatedly voiced his confidence and expectations for a championship. He straight up said it’s championship or bust for the team. And I’m not sure he’s wrong honestly. That’s certainly the right mentality to have and it’s infinitely better than to be scared and hesitating on your moves. He comes in ready to fire away and as he mentioned the 2 injuries he suffered were just freak accidents so he doesn’t feel any fear while moving on the court in practice. Getting back on a team where he won’t even need to do too much right away, I think that it’s the perfect situation for him and he can slowly get into a nice rhythm game by game. While it may take some time for Thompson to get fully back and doing what we know he can do in a basketball game, I won’t be too surprised if we see a big game from him early on. We are talking about the second best shooter in NBA history, and a guy who can put up 37 points in a quarter, and score 60 without even dribbling the ball. And with all the added motivation that he comes back with, eager to win another championship, the league could be in trouble. This injury definitely had an impact on Klay and changed him a little. But it may have just made him even scarier for the opposition. As someone who’s experienced not being able to do sports for some time, I fully sympathize with Klay and cannot wait to see him out on the court. Let me know in the comments how long do you think it takes him to knock down 5 threes in a game? I give him about a week. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

On the out of bounds play, the Spurs run a 2-3 zone. But check out this phenomenal play from the Pacers. Keep an eye on Chris Duarte, and Justin Holiday as they’re going to set 2 screens on the inside for Wannamaker to drive. Not the cleanest execution but it does enough for the backside to collapse, leaving an open look for Torey Craig and he swishes it from downtown. Here’s how this great play design looked at full speed and no wonder why they got 3 points out of it. A lot of games last night so let’s check out some more interesting actions. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. The Sixers forgot that the most dangerous player is often the inbounder. So we see C.J. Mccollum is gonna set a screen for Powell to get a full head of steam towards the basket. At the same time, the pass goes to Covington who will have a better angle to find him under the basket. This turns out to be a much easier score for Portland but on the replay we can see that if Philly switched and Powell couldn’t get it, this flows into a screen for C.J. up top and he would have a 3 point shot. It’s very often that teams have multiple options on out of bounds plays, and we see that being the case right here with this design from the Portland Trail Blazers. Moving on. The Celtics get the ball to Williams outside, and from there we have a screen and a handoff for Brown on the outside curl. So at this moment, since Lavine is trailing, and Jaylen has a driving lane, Vucevic needs to step in and stop that. Nice roll by Williams and this is a great position to be in. But the pass gets deflected so the initial advantage is lost, however great awareness by the big man as he flings a pass to the corner, the swing to Smart and he has a wide open three, that goes in. Once again check out how they created the advantage in the first place, nice effort by Chicago to try and extend this possession as much as possible, but at the end Boston still scores. Next up it’s Nikola Jokic with an insane pass to the corner. As we stop it right here, you see that there are 4 Grizzlies defenders who could intercept the ball on its way to Gordon. But this is Jokic we’re talking about so dude fires away a one handed slingshot across the entire court and defense on the money for Aaron Gordon buuuut unfortunately he misses it. Still I had to put this one in, for you to see it even tho it didn’t end in a score and it wasn’t a play call. Speaking of that, the next few are not necessarily designed plays, but the ball moved as seamlessly as the coach would draw it up. Sabonis and Holiday execute this to perfection. We got the pass and the high pick, Holiday goes up for the shot, at the last second drops it to Sabonis, back to Holiday on the drive, back to Sabonis, the turn and the lefty hook shot. This was amazing. Look at the ball bouncing almost like it’s in a pinball machine. Incredible 2 man game. Similar to that, Quickley and Topin run the high pick and roll, but the Raptors close the driving lane, so the 2 Knicks didn’t stop moving and went straight to it once again. Got a better angle and Obi Topin finishes with a layup. Here’s how that looked at full speed as the 2 young players show their great on court connection. And finally it’s the Nuggets again as they run this in a free flowing way with a lot of passing and movement, penetrating and kicking, to finally end up with a wide open look for Bones Hyland who hits the 3. Once again, check out how that looked on this beautiful Denver Nuggets possession. Let me know in the comments which was your favorite. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
As the Nets go in transition of course the attention is on James Harden with the ball. Then it shifts to one of the best shooters in the league Joe Harris. And finally the ball gets to KD, one of the most prolific scorers in NBA history. You gotta try to stop him. So on such a stacked roster, nobody realizes that there is a wide open Patty Mills in the corner. And that includes the cameraman which is crazy. As he goes to shoot this practice shot- we finally see the reason why he was that open. But Mills doesn’t care about Kyle Kuzma because he’s too busy knocking down threes at a staggering 64.0% so far in 4 games. And while 64% is not sustainable of course, Patty Mills could have an insane shooting year because of this 1 thing that nobody talks about. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Dude started the season 10 for 10 for 3 point range which is the first time that someone went 10 straight to start the season and broke the 8 for 8 record held by...oh right, held by Patty Mills in 2013. So that’s pretty cool. Now, you may be asking why I am making such a big deal and a video about a 38.7% career shooter from downtown who’s having a little hot streak at the beginning of the season. And to that I say: There’s something that nobody is talking about. Let me show you this little graphic here. As we take a look at the last 7 seasons, we notice a fairly decent percentage from 3 point range, but besides 2016/17 and maybe 2018/19, this is nothing to get excited about. But let’s now focus solely on catch and shoot threes. And all of a sudden we see elite shooting numbers. Consistently being above 40 with the sole exception of that 1 year, which is still solid by itself. Patty Mills is a sniper when it comes to just catching and shooting the ball. And guess what? He is going to get a ton of those this season. In fact, the large majority will be like that, since he of course doesn’t have to create, having guys like KD and Harden on the floor. In transition with the beard attacking and Aldridge diving to the basket, you know that the first rule for the defense is to stop the penetration. So as Harden kicks it out, this becomes a routine practice shot for Patty who went 7 for 7 in this game. And right here on the long rebound, as the ball gets to Durant, Mills already sees the entire defense watching him, so he’s going to relocate, sprinting to the opposite side where no other player is, and look at how much room he’s got for this shot that touches nothing but the bottom of the net. And not to mention how many of these situations there will be throughout the season. KD isolated on the wing, Curry makes the slightest move over there, and we got the pass, the shot and the bucket. Absolutely deadly. With the whole Kyrie Irving saga, and him not being in the roster, Patty Mills has been getting a lot of playing time and a lot of opportunities. But even if Kyrie somehow gets back in the roster and the minutes go down for the Australian, I fully expect him to keep getting the same looks, and to continue to knock them down as this is his favorite way of operating on the floor, and he shows that he can be one of the most dangerous shooters in this particular setup. Maan, the Nets got a great piece for their championship run. In my opinion the best is yet to come from such a battle tested player and a guy molded by Gregg Popovich. We’ll see that when it matters the most, in the playoffs. I’m sure that now that I’ve made this video, he’ll go 1 for 9 in his next 2 games but regardless numbers don’t lie, and they say that he’s a deadly catch and shoot player. If you liked this video, please subscribe. It helps a lot. Talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
Video Sponsored by Ridge Wallet. Check them out here: https://ridge.com/HEATCHECK The Hornets hit Brooklyn with this beautiful action, literally on the first play of the game. As Lamelo brings it up, we got 2 screens for him up top. Thing is, both Hayward and Plumlee slip those, while Ball attacks along the right side. This catches the Nets defenders by surprise and the big man finds himself wide open under the basket. So Lamelo finds him with a laser pass, and we got an uncontested dunk. Charlotte absolutely stunned the Brooklyn Nets by coming to their place and beating them, to start the season at 3-0 for the first time in franchise history. Let me show you some of the reasons for the hot start. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. First of all, we have to start with Miles Bridges. To me he’s been the main guy early on for Charlotte, and so far in these 3 games he’s averaging 25 points per game which is literally double than his 12.7 last season. You can absolutely see that this is sustainable because of the aggressiveness that he’s showing early on. Look at some of these moves when attacking the basket. Dude is expanding his repertoire and is becoming hard to guard at his position. And when you think of Bridges, the first thing that probably comes to mind are his superhuman dunks that almost caused the Hornets announcer to have a heart attack. But despite this, Miles was a 40% shooter from downtown last year, and it seems like he’s keeping up with this pace, and even making a step forward. It’s logical to try to increase the shots from outside so he’s been doing that going from 4 to 6, but at the same time making more so at the start of this new season he’s sitting at 44.4%. I believe that Bridges can keep up with this pace, and if not above 20, he can definitely average 19 points for the year, and with that he will surely be among the main candidates for most improved player. Next, I wanna point out the fact that this team plays incredibly fast paced with a lot of passing. In fact so much so that they’re at the top of the league, number 1 with 29 assists per game in these 3 matchups. And you already know who’s at the forefront when it comes to this. Lamelo Ball. At this point you almost expect that he will do something incredible each and every game. Right here, he drives, and at this moment Ball already sees the wide open Hayward in the corner, but instead of telegraphing that pass, check out how he looks towards Bridges, completely faking out the defense, as you can see the help guy going there. The incredible no look pass plus the amazing hangtime on this assist, as Hayward knocks down the three. Moving on. Even when Ball is not in the game, Ish Smith has been great early on in running the point guard position off the bench. With 5.7 assists it’s almost like the team doesn’t miss a beat when Lamelo is not in the game. And a lot of people don’t know that even tho he’s older now, Ish is still among the quickest guys in the league, so it’s always fun seeing him use that speed and go into attack mode causing all kinds of problems for the defense. In fact, Smith along with Cody Martin started the run that brought back Charlotte in the game against Brooklyn so Lamelo himself told coach Borego to ride it out with Smith. I absolutely love this, and it shows great maturity and trust in the team from such a young player. This was an incredible move, and it paid off big time, so I can only imagine how the atmosphere and the team chemistry is for the Hornets at the moment. So yeah, this was the real reason why he wasn’t playing in the 4th quarter of a big game. Coach Borego confirmed that in the postgame press conference. On the topic of the team, they accomplished their goals of having a deep roster, and being long and athletic especially on the defensive end. Against the Nets for example, they started Lamelo Ball, Kelly Oubre, Gordon Hayward, Miles Bridges and Mason Plumlee. This is an incredibly long and versatile lineup that can move quickly, switch, and it allows them to get a ton of steals and get up in transition for a lot of easy points. Charlotte has been getting 10.7 steals in these 3 games, which is a ton considering that last season the league leaders had 9 per game. I know it’s early of course, but I have to point out what this team has been doing well on the court. At the end I also want to give a shoutout to Gordon Hayward who is another guy on this roster having a great start to the season. Of course with him the performance is not the main concern as his injuries. So hopefully he can stay on the floor and be another weapon for the Hornets. When you add in the fact that Terry Rozier hasn’t even played in 2 of the first 3 games, meaning that they are yet to be in full strength, things are looking incredibly promising right?
