EXPOSED: The REAL Reason For The LAKERS ELIMINATION
EXPOSED: The REAL Reason For The LAKERS ELIMINATION

As Lebron James gets the deflection and the Lakers go in transition, he stays in the backcourt. And the Suns are able to contain the initial attack, so you can see at this moment that all the Lakers are in the front court but he’s not even in the frame. Oh there he is riiight here. In an elimination game at home, down by 21 in the second quarter, I absolutely expected more out of the king, and if you stick around you’ll see why it’s actually not surprising that the Phoenix Suns eliminated the Lakers. But at the same time, I’m not blaming James as well. Why? Let me explain everything. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. First things first, all credit goes to the Phoenix Suns. Like, look at this. You got 3 defenders literally standing in front of the basket, there is no possible way to get inside. And you got the 2 guys on the outside also being active. Woow talk about executing a game plan to perfection. Just look at Crowder and all the pushing and shoving and fighting that he did in this game to help his team out with every ounce of energy, battling on the defensive end against the much bigger Lebron. Check out the multiple efforts here as he ultimately ends up with the block for the jump ball. And lastly, with another block, saving what would have been 2 points here. But maaan, as much as was about the defense, look at Lebron, he’s got no lift whatsoever. That’s the reason why he misses this layup in the first place in my opinion. Same reason why he misses this one as well. Come on now, Devin Booker should not be able to contain him in normal circumstances right?! And let’s compare yet another missed layup on the drive against Frank Kaminsky right here… To another drive from earlier in the season against Rudy Gobert, when Lebron hammered it down, as the defensive player of the year finalist actually got out of the way in time. My point here is: James did not seem to have the strength nor the endurance to go in these playoffs. You could see him being gassed and hanging his head, not crossing half court as I already mentioned, being passive at times, and flat out asking for a sub in the fourth quarter just as the Lakers battled back all the way from 29 point deficit to make this an interesting game down the stretch. The face says it all tho, as this was far from the player that famously said “the whole game, I’m playing the whole game” in a similar elimination type setup from a few years ago. This exhausted and worn out look is definitely a lot different than this iconic death stare that we all remember from the legendary Heat vs Celtics series. Thing is, even if you have the determination and the will, you can only go as far as your body takes you. Whether it was that ankle injury that’s been bothering him, or the undefeated father time catching up to Lebron, he is starting to look like a mere mortal on the court possibly for the first time in his career. That was only amplified by the fact that the Suns only needed to cover him defensively, since Anthony Davis gave it a go with the groin injury but in only 5 minutes on the court, he saw that he’s by no means healthy enough to play, so as you can see right here, the painful grimace, the disappointment, as he left the game early in the first quarter, leaving the king all by himself. If you ask James himself tho, there’s no room for concern whatsoever, as he said that the prolonged rest that he’ll be able to have this off season will take care of all problems and come next season, he will be ready to compete at the highest level. (LEBRON INTERVIEW) And despite the loss, after a hard fought series, I love the humility as we see Lebron James and Devin Booker here. James gifting an autographed jersey saying continue to be great to Book, which of course most of you know is sort of like a 2nd chapter in Booker’s career after Kobe Bryant famously gifted his sneakers to Devin and wrote Be Great on them. Something that meant so much to the young fella that he even went and tattooed that same Kobe writing. And boy am I glad for him! From being attacked year after year that he’s kind of an empty calories type of player, that he can only put up big numbers on a losing team, Booker led Phoenix to the next round defeating the champions of all teams, and putting up ridiculous numbers. Just look at some of these games that he had. Culminating with this game 6 where he exploded for 47 points on 8 for 10 from downtown. 80% from beyond the arc! Book had the flamethrower on him for this one. He burned the Lakers 2 times in a row with this action, starting from under the basket, then curling around for the handoff and fir ing away for the bucket. Exact same thing again. And when you get it going like that, then it’s heat check mode, raising up from anywhere! hand in his face, it didn’t matter.

Anatomy of a Play - Utah Jazz Offensive Break Down
Anatomy of a Play - Utah Jazz Offensive Break Down

Bryce, former Division 1 hooper turned coach, breaks down two plays from the Utah Jazz and Memphis Grizzlies playoff game. Play 1 highlights Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley's handoff that leads to a Gobert basket. Play 2 is a not so simple ball screen to get Mike Conley a WIDE open layup.

Just How He WANTS IT...
Just How He WANTS IT...

Check out this play. Paul George comes out to the three point line and then signals for the pass to go to Zubac. PG then immediately cuts and gets the ball on the handoff with an open lane to the rim. Nice defensive rotation here but there’s no chance that PG can be stopped once he takes flight. So let me go deeper and explain how the Clippers extended their win streak to 6 in a row, and what that could mean for the playoffs. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Watch the spin here to get free, and moments later on the drive, the beautiful euro step to split the defense and finish. And again, moving without the ball to shake off the defender, gets it on the wing and splashes the jumpshot. Check out the barrage of jump shots that George hit on his way to 36 points on phenomenal shooting along with 7 rebounds and 8 assists. All that without Kawhi Leonard for this game as the Clippers were able to hold off Indiana. Thing is it wasn’t just the shot making. PG is letting the game come to him. Drawing defenders on the drive, then finding the cutter and dishing a no look pass for the lay in. Or surveying the floor and finding the open shooter in the corner for the three point shot. Even taking advantage of the matchups and executing a tight pick and roll with Zubac right here. Great roll by Ivica, timely lob pass, and the dunk. The matchups were such that both Zubac and Marcus Morris had opportunities to score in the absence of Miles Turner under the basket. So there were multiple occasions where Morris would just back his way down to his favorite spot, turn around and raise up for the shot and the Pacers were unable to stop him. But all of this is just a part of a bigger story. The Clippers are getting into a nice groove just before the playoffs. I mean they have been solid throughout the entire season, but for the last 15 games which is quite a big portion btw they’ve been on fire. A record of 12-3, and shooting lights out 49.8% from the field, and 43% from downtown, being the absolute best in the NBA in both categories. Right now they’re in a phenomenal rhythm, peaking just at the right time for the playoffs. And all of this while staying under the radar. For the entire season at that. They’ve been solid and playing at a great pace since the start, but unlike last year, now nobody is talking about this team. Remember how all of last year the talk was Clippers or Lakers, Lebron and AD vs Kawhi and PG. The battle of LA. But all of that hype disappeared with a single playoff exit that they had, albeit a debacle of epic proportions, losing a 3-1 lead. However if you ask me, this is exactly how they want it to be. Kawhi is a man of few words anyways, and PG had some struggles with all the pressure and the talk surrounding him and the team. So right now he’s ballin 'out. Postgame, PG mentioned having some conversations with Dwyane Wade about taking his game to a new level and how that has helped him this season. PG INTERVIEW So yeah, in my opinion nothing has changed from last year. We still need to view them as top candidates for the championship. The roster got better in my opinion, and although they’re missing Ibaka and Beverley at the moment, they will be back for the playoffs, and of course Rondo got there at the trade deadline as well. And with the Lakers struggling right now with injuries, anything can happen come playoff time. But one thing is for sure, this time the Clippers are much hungrier and that makes them much more dangerous. Let me know what you think and how far they can get in the post season. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

5 GENIUS NBA PLAYS! (BREAKDOWN)
5 GENIUS NBA PLAYS! (BREAKDOWN)

This is the pivotal play that gave the Suns a 4 point lead late in the game which they were able to keep it for the win. CP3 is the inbounder, we got an Ayton screen for Bridges who comes out to receive the pass. And you can already see this is set up to be a double screen for Paul. One on the handoff, and we got Ayton on the back as well. That’s what the Hawks believe as well. But then check out the lightning quick cut from Bridges, going straight to the basket for the dunk and fooling the entire Atlanta team. We’ve seen this sneaky move being done a lot of times and it’s a lot of fun every time. So let’s check out a few more interesting play calls from last night’s games. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. The Hornets have a great play design that they’ve been running this season. Starts off as a high pick and roll between Hayward and Zeller, but as soon as Rozier makes the pass, he’ll fake left, hard cut to the right, and Zeller turns around to actually screen for Terry off the ball, a great wide open look and Rozier hits the three. Check it out once again as everything flows nicely on this possession. Back to Phoenix, I wanted to feature Trae Young’s phenomenal vision, passing and overall basketball IQ. Right here on the high pick by Capella, the big man actually slips it creating a bit of an advantage. Young could throw a lob at this moment, but he sees Chris Paul sliding down, on the help, so he takes an extra dribble, enough for CP to get all the way to the paint, and then throws a crosscourt pass to the corner for Kevin Huerter who’s got all the time he needs for the shot and knocks it down. Nice to see this type of reaction from Trae in traffic, seeing the play ahead of time, and making the right move. Look at this quick execution from Philadelphia. As Ben Simmons gets the ball at the wing, Tobias fakes the curl on the Howard pick, and this transforms into a double screen for Simmons. Ben comes out strong, Dwight rolls, and you can see it being a 2 on 1 situation for Jokic. The alley oop and the easy dunk for the sixers. Check it out once again in real time to see just how quickly this play develops. And speaking of quick, here’s another example of that by the Orlando Magic. As Terrence Ross brings the ball up, we have a recognizable 2 screen alignment up top. But as the Clippers are getting ready to switch and defend Ross, the first screener which is Otto Porter here, slips it and sprints to the paint, where as you can see there is nobody. So we have the pass from Terrence and the finish for the layup. All happening in 1 continuous motion from the very beginning of the play, all the way till the end. Great execution. The Clippers did have a nice out of bounds action of their own. Luke Kennard sets a back screen for Kawhi, but then immediately cuts towards the baseline and gets one himself from Patterson. As he gets the ball there’s that little hesitation that is enough to get the defender in the air, so then he raises up and swishes this one to beat the halftime buzzer. Once again here it is full speed for you to see what happens. Let me know if you like more videos like this one, since they’re so fun for me to make. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.

When An NBA SUPERSTAR Wants To Be Like JORDAN CLARKSON...
When An NBA SUPERSTAR Wants To Be Like JORDAN CLARKSON...

What initially looks like a high pick and roll for Conley is actually a decoy, as Gobert is gonna run to the wing, to screen for one of the most dangerous offensive players for the Jazz. Jordan Clarkson curls, catches, fires and scores. Utah has been relying on Clarkson, running these picks up top for him to get 3 point looks, and because of his underrated speed and the quick release, he is always able to get it up, and deliver for his team. So with him being on fire this season, NBA players are praising him big time, and there’s even 1 superstar that said he wanted to be like him. Stick around to check out who it was. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it. Check out his sneakiness and speed. Right here he’ll curl past the handoff, before going skrrrt skrrrt on Curry, getting back to the ball, the screen, the shot and the bucket. This was just 1 of his 8 threes against Philly on the way to a 40 point night against the Sixers. That’s 40 points off the bench yall. Clarkson is the first reserve this season to score that many points. He was so hot that his teammates needed to cool him off after the game. WATER BOTTLE CLIP yhile you’re watching his phenomenally underrated floater package, let me just tell you that no water bottle showers are gonna cool him off this season, since Jordan is the leading scorer off the bench with 18 points per game. Those 18 points per game make him the second leading scorer on the top team in the league. For real, Clarkson is right behind Donovan Mitchell, all that while being a reserve. That’s how important he is to the Jazz and their wild success so far this year. Okay, so now that you’ve seen a lot of these floaters, let me share a staggering statistic. Dude is 62 out of 94 on these shots which is an incredible 66%. That’s crazy. Only centers who play under the basket can get that type of efficiency. I recently made a video about Immanuel Quickley, the guy who only shoots floaters. Well, I was surprised to find out that he’s got less made and at a lower percentage. Again, Jordan Clarkson’s floater game is 1) automatic and 2) suuuper underrated. Keep an eye on him for that throughout the rest of the season. Moving on, another thing that he’s great at is the post up. Clarkson is so smart with his dribble, not wasting time, going straight to the rim, a little bump, the half spin and the shot. Look at him knowing exactly where he wants to get. In the middle of the paint, and as he gets cut off, bumps, spins and scores. Jordan is relying more on this shot as this year he completely removed the midrange from his game, becoming a 3s and paint type of guy. While that can work for some, but not for others- with Clarkson it seems like it’s a recipe for success, as both the points are up, and the efficiency is there. And with all that the Jazz are getting from Jordan, the trust in him is high. And I mean, to the moon. Look at all these shots in transition. This may seem crazy to some of you, but he’s been making them. At 37% on very high attempts, that’s putting Utah at number 1 in the entire league in made threes, and number 3 in percentage. You understand how deadly of a combination that is right? Shoot a lot of threes, make a lot of threes is the dream scenario for any team. You know what’s the funniest thing about him tho? Jordan has a ton and I mean a ton of bombs right at the end of the shot clock as you can see in these few examples. And there’s a reason behind it which I’ll get to in a second. The team is actually looking for Clarkson if there’s nothing going on in the possession and they need a bailout shot. Look at this: As the shot clock is hitting single digits, look at Mike Conley not liking what he’s seeing as he signals right away for Ingles to just get the ball to Clarkson. And that’s exactly what happens, as Joe finds him, my guy immediately fires away and banks it in. Now check out the hilarious reason, and story that Jordan Clarkson told in a recent podcast. I started laughing immediately as I heard this. Dude is ready to get it up there in any situation and at any cost. Props to you for that. And speaking of the ultra green light that Jordan has, check out what a superstar of Dwyane Wade’s caliber had to say about him. To get such a high praise from a guy like D-Wade is awesome, but even his peers in the league are showing him mad respect as he is the clear favorite for the 6th man of the year award. When you look at the whole picture, it all makes sense. Highest scorer off the bench, efficient, and leading his team to the best record in the league. That’s amazing. As you look at the top 10 reserves, there’s no way that any of them has anywhere close to the combined success that Jordan is having so far this year. Charles Barkley even went as far as saying that Clarkson had a better season than Anthony Davis at the all star break and put him on his ballot.

Boston Celtics offensive gameplan against Utah Jazz
Boston Celtics offensive gameplan against Utah Jazz

The #Boston #Celtics had a clear plan against the Utah Jazz defensive coverage. It was not enough to secure the W, but it was nonetheless quite efective and worth analyzing. In the video we can see the repeated use of the following concepts: -Chicago action (pin-down followed by a handoff) -Re-screen on pick and rolls when the on ball defender goes under -Short roll when the pick and roll goes towards the side of 1 -Great execution against the drop from the handlers, especially from #Tatum and #Brown What did you think about the game, and about the Celtics`plan? #Scouting #NBA #Playbook #Coaching
