My Favorite Baseball Card Set - 1964 Topps GIANTS
The 1964 Topps baseball card set is one of my ALL-TIME favorites. Measuring at 3 1/8” x 5 1/4”, it was the first postcard size set issued by the company. There are 60 cards total (3 players from each team) and it includes 21 Hall of Famers. It is also the set where Tony Oliva makes his first solo card appearance after being combined with other “star rookies” in ‘63 and ‘64. There are seven short prints in the set, and this includes some Hall of Famers like Sandy Koufax and Willie Mays, making those a bit more pricey than some of the others. All in all, a simple, clean look and a very affordable set for someone who might not have the budget to go after some of the more popular vintage cards. The Tony Olivia biography mentioned is: Tony Oliva, The Life And Times Of A Minnesota Twins Legend, by Thom Henninger. The other book mentioned was October 1964, by David Halberstam.
