The 1964 Topps baseball card set is one of my ALL-TIME favorites. Measuring at 3 1/8” x 5 1/4”, it was the first postcard size set issued by the company. There are 60 cards total (3 players from each team) and it includes 21 Hall of Famers. It is also the set where Tony Oliva makes his first solo card appearance after being combined with other “star rookies” in ‘63 and ‘64. There are seven short prints in the set, and this includes some Hall of Famers like Sandy Koufax and Willie Mays, making those a bit more pricey than some of the others. All in all, a simple, clean look and a very affordable set for someone who might not have the budget to go after some of the more popular vintage cards. The Tony Olivia biography mentioned is: Tony Oliva, The Life And Times Of A Minnesota Twins Legend, by Thom Henninger. The other book mentioned was October 1964, by David Halberstam. Here is the complete 1964 Topps Giants Checklist: 1 Gary Peters Chicago White Sox 2 Ken Johnson Houston Colt .45s 3 Sandy Koufax SP Los Angeles Dodgers 4 Bob Bailey Pittsburgh Pirates 5 Milt Pappas Baltimore Orioles 6 Ron Hunt New York Mets 7 Whitey Ford New York Yankees 8 Roy McMillan New York Mets 9 Rocky Colavito Kansas City Athletics 10 Jim Bunning Philadelphia Phillies 11 Bob Clemente Pittsburgh Pirates 12 Al Kaline Detroit Tigers 13 Nellie Fox Houston Colt .45s 14 Tony Gonzalez Philadelphia Phillies 15 Jim Gentile Kansas City Athletics 16 Dean Chance Los Angeles Angels 17 Dick Ellsworth Chicago Cubs 18 Jim Fregosi Los Angeles Angels 19 Dick Groat St. Louis Cardinals 20 Chuck Hinton Washington Senators 21 Elston Howard New York Yankees 22 Dick Farrell Houston Colt .45s 23 Albie Pearson Los Angeles Angels 24 Frank Howard Los Angeles Dodgers 25 Mickey Mantle New York Yankees 26 Joe Torre Milwaukee Braves 27 Ed Brinkman Washington Senators 28 Bob Friend SP Pittsburgh Pirates 29 Frank Robinson Cincinnati Reds 30 Bill Freehan Detroit Tigers 31 Warren Spahn Milwaukee Braves 32 Camilo Pascual Minnesota Twins 33 Pete Ward Chicago White Sox 34 Jim Maloney Cincinnati Reds 35 Dave Wickersham Detroit Tigers 36 Johnny Callison Philadelphia Phillies 37 Juan Marichal San Francisco Giants 38 Harmon Killebrew Minnesota Twins 39 Luis Aparicio Baltimore Orioles 40 Dick Radatz Boston Red Sox 41 Bob Gibson St. Louis Cardinals 42 Dick Stuart SP Boston Red Sox 43 Tommy Davis Los Angeles Dodgers 44 Tony Oliva Minnesota Twins 45 Wayne Causey SP Kansas City Athletics 46 Max Alvis Cleveland Indians 47 Galen Cisco SP New York Mets 48 Carl Yastrzemski Boston Red Sox 49 Hank Aaron Milwaukee Braves 50 Brooks Robinson Baltimore Orioles 51 Willie Mays SP San Francisco Giants 52 Billy Williams Chicago Cubs 53 Juan Pizarro Chicago White Sox 54 Leon Wagner Cleveland Indians 55 Orlando Cepeda San Francisco Giants 56 Vada Pinson Cincinnati Reds 57 Ken Boyer St. Louis Cardinals 58 Ron Santo Chicago Cubs 59 John Romano Cleveland Indians 60 Bill Skowron SP Washington Senators
