Two goals from Keinan Davis set Forest on their way to an emphatic victory against relegation-threatened Reading. The Reds couldn't have made a better start, with Joe Worrall's throughball, Djed Spence's cross and Davis' turn and finish putting the home team in the lead after just 17 seconds! However, the rest of the first half was flat at best, with Ethan Horvath having to make a crucial save and Forest players struggling to play on the front foot. Max Lowe's enforced substitution enabled a tactical tweak, with sub Cafu playing in the hole, enabling Jimmy Garner to drop back into central midfield, and The Reds reaped the benefits in the second half. All the goals were tidy, with Yates and Surridge putting the seal on the victory, but it was the second goal that got everyone talking: Davis received the ball with his back to goal 25 yards out, and in one move he turned and shrugged off three men, before approaching the box and curling home a fine finish. Power, pace, confidence and finesse - this goal was Collymore-esque. The game ended on a sombre note however, as Davis' rival for man of the match, Steve Cook, limped off with a painful looking injury, and with all subs used, Forest finished the game with ten men. The Maradona of the Midlands and Rich Ferraro dissect the game, discussing memories of Jack Lester, the contributions of Yates and Surridge, and Steve Cooper's tactical tweaks. 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. After a little bit of a grind in the midweek draw at Preston, Forest were back on form against a Bristol City side who would have been grateful to only lose by two goals. A first half shot by Brennan Johnson and a second half effort by Jimmy Garner saw the Reds take the points, but it could have been so much more. Rich is joined by Baz to discuss the contributions of the forward players, provide a status report on Ethan Horvath, and to wax lyrical again about Spence and Lowe as attacking full-backs. We also hear from Matthew Withers from the Bristol City podcast 3 Peaps In A Pod, with a view from the away end. 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub and The Terrace. It was hardly a vintage match and it was definitely not a great performance from the Reds, as apart from a bright opening, they were outplayed by a high-pressing Preston team. Forest were struggling to make their game work and, apart from a penalty shout in the first few minutes, and a dangerous cross from Djed Spence at the death, there was a lack of postive action. On the other hand, Preston will feel as though they should have taken their chances and claimed all the points. As Steve Cooper pointed out, on these nights, you are grateful for the point; however, some fans were questioning the tactical choices and lack of substitutions made by the gaffer. Steven Toplis and Tom Newton discuss the match in our 50th podcast of the season; hopefully a win against Bristol City will make the 51st feel a bit happier. 1865: The Nottingham Forest Podcast is proud to partner with FanHub (https://fan-hub.com/) and The Terrace (https://theterracestore.com/collections/nottingham-forest). We predicted that this would be a tough match against an in-form Stoke team, and so it proved. Forest were second best in the first half, but held on, and actually took the lead before the hour mark when sub Sam Surridge played a ball out to the left wing, and Max Lowe's peachy cross was converted by the onrushing Brennan Johnson. The visitors equalised through Josh Maja, and a combination of the woodwork and Brice Samba kept the Reds in it. The last 5-10 minutes were another story though; just as Steve Cooper made his last two attacking substitutions, Samba got himself stupidly and deservedly sent off for cuffing Josh Tymon around the head. Joe Worrall took the gloves and his first duty was to pick the ball out of the net from Lewis Baker's penalty. However, Forest just keep going, and when Jimmy Garner's free kick hit the bar, Scott McKenna got his head to it and Ryan Yates converted from close range to rescue the point. Rich Ferraro is joined by Baz to discuss the match, the keeper, the pitch invader and the referee, as well as the pick of the Reds players. We also hear a view from the opposition, as we are once again joined by Ben Rowley from Stoke podcast The YYY Files. Another enjoyable away day sees Forest move into the Championship playoff places for the first time this season, continuing the remarkable turnaround Steve Cooper has masterminded since arriving at The City Ground. A first-half goal from James Garner and a penalty from Brennan Johnson in the closing minutes of the match secured a 2-0 success for the Reds, who took the game to Blackburn with a mixture of skill, guile and determination and were rewarded with the points against a side who are well in the mix for an automatic promotion spot. Steven is joined by Tom and they talk about the brilliance of Keinan Davis, Garner's reward for his fine recent performances, the warrior-like spirit from the back three and more examples of how Cooper is simply getting it right as Forest boss.
