Wolff Reveals One Thing He "Really Regrets" From 2021
Wolff Reveals One Thing He "Really Regrets" From 2021

While Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton engaged in a fierce on-track rivalry last season, most of the off-track drama was provided by their respective team principals Christian Horner and Toto Wolff which included quite a few verbal jibes. Wolff has now looked back at this rivalry while speaking to Formula 1 Magazine Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxHoUKxmAZbAue_BJC6JKEEIvv8PsnMV_0 0:00 - Why Toto Wolff “Really” Regrets Verbal Spats With Christian Horner 1:10 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: Why Toto Wolff “Really” Regrets Verbal Spats With Christian Horner Wolff began by pointing out how things got really personal between the two “I really regret it. I always try to stay professional, approach things professionally. However, at some point it became very personal between the two of us” He then looked at what he felt was the peak of this rivalry “At one point [following the flexi-wings controversy] he said that I should keep my mouth shut. Then I responded by saying he was a windbag and talked too much for the cameras” He signed off by explaining why he shouldn’t have made such statements “I shouldn’t have said that because it’s a professional relationship and you know that even your worst enemy has a best friend” “So you have to respect that person, even if you fight a hard duel” Fast Feed Mike Elliott, technical director of Mercedes, feels that “the overall performance of the new cars probably won’t be much different from the old cars” [Mercedes AMG F1] “The cars will look very different. They will perform quite differently and that is going to be interesting to watch” “All of this year’s cars will look fairly similar [to each other]. The differences will all be subtle changes in the aerodynamic shapes particularly underneath the car” Former F1 driver Stoffel Vandoorne has stated that “you didn’t see everything that happened behind the scenes, all the politics” during his time in F1 at McLaren [Dernière Heure] “It’s not easy to drive at your best when you know that the team is negotiating with other drivers behind your back” Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko feels that “[Carlos] Sainz was unlucky to debut at the same time as [Max] Verstappen” [Autorevue] “He was immediately fast and good. We already saw in the first tests at Silverstone. He was as fast as Verstappen” “Sainz certainly belongs among the top drivers. He has proven that” Alpine’s Fernando Alonso has divulged that “last year when [he] was testing the old Renault on [his] comeback to the sport, [he shared] a couple of days with [Guanyu] Zhou in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.” [F1i] “It’s good for Formula 1 in general, I think, [and] for China, for Zhou” “We are all looking forward to race with him, and [to] welcome him in the best way possible” In a note sent to the media on Monday, Mercedes moved to rubbish the report published over the weekend that stated that the Brackley squad’s chassis had failed a side-impact test [F1i] Red Bull team principal Christian Horner feels that sprint qualifying “wasn’t perfect but if you don’t try something then you don’t know” [WION] “I think there are things that could be done to make it more exciting, to make it more interesting” “But it’s getting quite late now and we’re going to need to have a decision pretty shortly” Did you enjoy the bickering between Toto Wolff and Christian Horner last year?

LATEST Update On Michael Masi Saga
LATEST Update On Michael Masi Saga

The FIA is conducting an investigation into the events of the season finale at Abu Dhabi last year. There has already been speculation that FIA Race Director Michael Masi may be sacked from his role. FIA's new head of single-seaters, Peter Bayer, has offered some hints regarding this while also explaining why Max Verstappen would have been crowned champion even if Mercedes' protest had been successful while speaking to Austrian journalist Gerhard Kuntschik as quoted by the BBC Link to poll: https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxOoyWRdIirgWlGnCPlGFBNXWEBiUoxY_z 0:00 - FIA Has Informed Michael Masi He Could Be Replaced 2:20 - Fast Feed I'm your host Dillon Shelley and first up on Formula World: FIA Has Informed Michael Masi He Could Be Replaced Peter Bayer, who has been asked to review and optimise the organisation of the FIA F1 structure for the 2022 season by FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem started off by confirming that Masi could lose his job "Michael did a super job in many ways. We told him that" "But also that there is a possibility there could be a new race director" He then gave his opinion on team officials lobbying with race direction in 2021 "That was simply too much. These roles will be divided between several people. This reduces the burden on the race director" He then gave an update on the possible changes to the safety car rules that are being discussed "If neutralisation is necessary in the last two laps of the race, the lap counting ends and the laps are added at the end of the safety car phase. This could cause a fuel problem in F1, which is why it is being looked at more closely" "We also asked the teams if their requirement not to finish a race under safety car was still relevant, to which they all agreed" He further confirmed that team managers will still be able to contact race direction but with a few changes "The team managers will still be able to - they have to be able to ask questions. We want to build in a buffer with an employee who accepts these requests. In the future, the race director will be able to concentrate on his task and will no longer be distracted" He then turned his attention to the protest launched by Mercedes in the aftermath of the Abu Dhabi GP "Had the Mercedes protest gone to the Court of Appeal, after being rejected by the stewards, what would have happened? I think the judges would have said: 'It's different in the regulations, he decided that way, so we could just void the result" "But even then - if it were cancelled - Max Verstappen would have been world champion" He signed off by hoping to improve things "The situation was far from perfect and that's why we're working on it. It's also about having respect for the race director. My job is to look ahead, how can we improve things?" Fast Feed Mercedes driver George Russell doesn’t think “a driver gets quicker. They do get better, more consistent and probably what has allowed me to do that is having a better understanding of the technical side” [GPFans] “What does it take to get the tyres in the right window to start a lap?" “If you go banzai into turn one and the tyres are slightly too cold, your lap's gone. So [it is about] understanding these limitations” Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has confirmed that “there will be talks with Max [regarding extending his contract beyond 2023] in the coming weeks” [Autorevue] “With Max we are already almost at the limit in terms of salary” “I don’t think Max would leave us. Because of what happened at Silverstone, something has snapped in the minds of Max and Jos. He does not want to change teams at all” Red Bull team principal Christian Horner has stated that “if Ferrari will come out with the fastest car and crush us all in the first race, you can certainly say that we have suffered from the intense title battle” [Motorsport] “Or maybe Haas suddenly comes out with a rocket” Ferrari’s sporting director Laurent Mekies suggested that “there is less freedom definitely [in the 2022 regulations]” [F1i] “We are all excited, because it’s going to be completely different compared to last year. But how different will the cars be from each other? We will see” “The first go at it, we may see enough difference but then I think the question we all need to ask ourselves is once six months have passed – and more importantly, once one year has passed – once you have redone your car for 2023, will we all turn out to have exactly the same?” Haas driver Mick Schumacher has divulged that “Yeah definitely, [Lewis Hamilton’s] always been very open to giving advice to help me in the position I was in” [Crash] "Those conversations are obviously private. Some of it is related to racing but most of it is just on a friendly basis” Should the FIA make new rules to prevent races from ending behind the safety car?
