Explain One Play: Jordan Poole breaks out of slump with speed and fakes against Pistons The Warriors took care of business against the Detroit Pistons in the 2021.11.19.GSW-DET game, barely hanging on to win while resting four key players. Jordan Poole had the opportunity and obligation to step up and cover the missing scoring power, which he did with a few threes and even more great drives which he carried off with speed, fakes and very creative and delicate finishes. The end result was an efficient 32 points on 22 shots and hopefully progress Poole can build on. How Did He Get THIS Open?! *GENIUS PLAY*
This is one of the most creative play calls that youâll ever see. Follow D'angelo Russell as heâs gonna set a screen under the basket, and then sprint towards the 3 point line using the pick from Towns. But this is a familiar play so at this moment you can see Jae Crowder is signaling that heâll switch it- waiting for D-Lo to come out. But then watch what Russell does here, as he uses Towns like a kid using a metal pole when playing tag. So he swings around the big man and launches himself towards the basket getting a completely wide open layup. As we watch the replay again, I gotta say that this brought me back to my childhood days on the playground so shoutout to Chris Finch for this play design. And Iâve got a bunch more of these all from last night. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Letâs get into it. Keep your eyes on Zach Lavine here for all of the running on this play. He starts from the corner, going around the screen as if heâll get another one under the basket for a 3 point look outside. Thatâs what the Bulls convince the defense anyway as Rondo goes out to meet him, buut Javonte Green turns 180 to set the real screen here, as Lavine comes back to get the ball and as the defense tries to recover, Zach finds the open man under the basket for the finish. Check out again the misdirection that Chicago was able to execute on this play and get a bucket inside. Right here for the Knicks, we keep an eye on Topin and Quickley. First they screen for each other, and although they donât get the switch, the play continues with Quickley coming to the elbow, and Topin on the curl. They meet right here on the back screen which opens up the flight zone for the big man who is already with a full head of steam. So D-Rose lobs it up and Obi throws down the alley oop. The Madison Square Garden crowd loved it, and ya boi loved it of course, as Iâll take any chance I get to feature my Knicks in a video. Moving on. On this out of bounds play Buddy Hield sets a back screen for Metu, who looks to cut to the rim. Thing is, thatâs a decoy as he spins and goes to the other side, making it confusing the defense and making it hard to switch it. So with an open lane, the weak side help has to react, which leaves Harisson Barnes alone in the corner for the three point shot and he splashes it. Whatâs funny is that he got a great look and didnât even have to move a single step from that corner as you can see on this replay. Next, after the Magic deny the initial pick and roll attack from Atlanta, the Hawks go to their secondary option here with Bogdanovic going for a pick that he will actually slip and continue to run to get here. At the same time Capella comes out to screen for him so that Bogdan gets a wide open look. The Serbian could have easily shot this, but he saw Reddish in the corner and felt that he would have an even better look, which I guess was the right decision because ultimately this ends with a three. Nice quick recovery for Atlanta after the initial defense from Orlando, and the unselfish play from Bogdanovic with the extra pass to Reddish. And finally, Iâll roll the play first then explain as itâs comical how open Rubio got despite running pretty slow on this play. Look at all this space on the shot. What happened was that he faked the screen for Garland. You can see his man signaling that this would be a switch, but there was never any screen to switch as Rubio continued his light jog all the way outside. And the fact that Langford doesnât even try to recover here, makes things that much easier for the Cavs. I gotta admit this video had some of the more interesting play calls in a while. When An NBA SUPERSTAR Wants To Be Like JORDAN CLARKSON...
What initially looks like a high pick and roll for Conley is actually a decoy, as Gobert is gonna run to the wing, to screen for one of the most dangerous offensive players for the Jazz. Jordan Clarkson curls, catches, fires and scores. Utah has been relying on Clarkson, running these picks up top for him to get 3 point looks, and because of his underrated speed and the quick release, he is always able to get it up, and deliver for his team. So with him being on fire this season, NBA players are praising him big time, and thereâs even 1 superstar that said he wanted to be like him. Stick around to check out who it was. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Letâs get into it. Check out his sneakiness and speed. Right here heâll curl past the handoff, before going skrrrt skrrrt on Curry, getting back to the ball, the screen, the shot and the bucket. This was just 1 of his 8 threes against Philly on the way to a 40 point night against the Sixers. Thatâs 40 points off the bench yall. Clarkson is the first reserve this season to score that many points. He was so hot that his teammates needed to cool him off after the game. WATER BOTTLE CLIP yhile youâre watching his phenomenally underrated floater package, let me just tell you that no water bottle showers are gonna cool him off this season, since Jordan is the leading scorer off the bench with 18 points per game. Those 18 points per game make him the second leading scorer on the top team in the league. For real, Clarkson is right behind Donovan Mitchell, all that while being a reserve. Thatâs how important he is to the Jazz and their wild success so far this year. Okay, so now that youâve seen a lot of these floaters, let me share a staggering statistic. Dude is 62 out of 94 on these shots which is an incredible 66%. Thatâs crazy. Only centers who play under the basket can get that type of efficiency. I recently made a video about Immanuel Quickley, the guy who only shoots floaters. Well, I was surprised to find out that heâs got less made and at a lower percentage. Again, Jordan Clarksonâs floater game is 1) automatic and 2) suuuper underrated. Keep an eye on him for that throughout the rest of the season. Moving on, another thing that heâs great at is the post up. Clarkson is so smart with his dribble, not wasting time, going straight to the rim, a little bump, the half spin and the shot. Look at him knowing exactly where he wants to get. In the middle of the paint, and as he gets cut off, bumps, spins and scores. Jordan is relying more on this shot as this year he completely removed the midrange from his game, becoming a 3s and paint type of guy. While that can work for some, but not for others- with Clarkson it seems like itâs a recipe for success, as both the points are up, and the efficiency is there. And with all that the Jazz are getting from Jordan, the trust in him is high. And I mean, to the moon. Look at all these shots in transition. This may seem crazy to some of you, but heâs been making them. At 37% on very high attempts, thatâs putting Utah at number 1 in the entire league in made threes, and number 3 in percentage. You understand how deadly of a combination that is right? Shoot a lot of threes, make a lot of threes is the dream scenario for any team. You know whatâs the funniest thing about him tho? Jordan has a ton and I mean a ton of bombs right at the end of the shot clock as you can see in these few examples. And thereâs a reason behind it which Iâll get to in a second. The team is actually looking for Clarkson if thereâs nothing going on in the possession and they need a bailout shot. Look at this: As the shot clock is hitting single digits, look at Mike Conley not liking what heâs seeing as he signals right away for Ingles to just get the ball to Clarkson. And thatâs exactly what happens, as Joe finds him, my guy immediately fires away and banks it in. Now check out the hilarious reason, and story that Jordan Clarkson told in a recent podcast. I started laughing immediately as I heard this. Dude is ready to get it up there in any situation and at any cost. Props to you for that. And speaking of the ultra green light that Jordan has, check out what a superstar of Dwyane Wadeâs caliber had to say about him. To get such a high praise from a guy like D-Wade is awesome, but even his peers in the league are showing him mad respect as he is the clear favorite for the 6th man of the year award. When you look at the whole picture, it all makes sense. Highest scorer off the bench, efficient, and leading his team to the best record in the league. Thatâs amazing. As you look at the top 10 reserves, thereâs no way that any of them has anywhere close to the combined success that Jordan is having so far this year. Charles Barkley even went as far as saying that Clarkson had a better season than Anthony Davis at the all star break and put him on his ballot.
