The winger made the most of a slack Mark Whatley backpass to score.

Maxi Urruti scored a first-half brace and Sebastián Driussi added a league-leading sixth goal of the season as Austin FC cruised to a 3-0 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday night, in front of the Club's 22nd-consecutive MLS sellout crowd of 20,738 at Q2 Stadium. The win completes ATXFC’s first-ever three-match MLS winning streak, and is the Club's first-ever win against Canadian opposition. The Verde & Black got off to a flying start, taking the lead in the 11th minute. Driussi intercepted a Vancouver backpass and slid the ball to Urruti, who fired in a first-time finish with his right foot. Urruti doubled his tally and Austin’s advantage 15 minutes later. He received a pass from Alex Ring with his back to goal, turned, and placed a precise strike inside the far post. Despite chances for Vancouver either side of halftime, the ATXFC defense held firm. Driussi then put the outcome of the match beyond doubt in the 68th minute, heading the ball home after Julio Cascante flicked on a long throw-in from Nick Lima. From there, Austin efficiently saw out a victory which moved the Club into first place in the MLS Supporters' Shield standings, and improved the Verde & Black to 8-1-1 in their last 10 home matches.
We ended our three-game losing streak in fine style with a thrilling win at Stamford Bridge. Twice we took the lead in the first half – through Eddie Nketiah and Emile Smith Rowe - and twice we were pegged back. But two goals without reply after the break – another from former Chelsea academy striker Nketiah and Bukayo Saka from the penalty spot - were enough to give us a much-needed victory. Chelsea had had the better of the opening ten minutes. After a flurry of corners Marcos Alonso had a shot deflected just wide. We got enough men back to just about snuff out the chance. Romelu Lukaku then shot wide after a loose pass by Emile Smith Rowe. Mikel Arteta made three changes to the side that had lost at Southampton at the weekend, with Ben White shifting across to the right and Rob Holding coming in to the centre, and the defence took a while to settle. But it was a poor pass from the hosts that gave us the chance to open the scoring. There appeared to be no pressure on Andreas Christensen midway in his own half, but his backpass was woefully underhit, and Nketiah pounced. He took the ball on to the edge of the area, kept his cool and slotted past Edouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal. It was the striker’s first Premier League goal of the season. But within four minutes it was Nketiah’s turn to give the ball away, and Chelsea levelled. Timo Werner picked up possession outside the box and though his shot seemed to lack power, a deflection wrong footed Aaron Ramsdale the ball rolled in. At the other end Nketiah bobbled a shot just wide after wonderful work from Saka just inside the area. The striker’s shot bounced off his other foot and loop the wrong side of the upright. It was an open game, with plenty of stray passes, and we retook the lead after living dangerously inside our own box. But Granit Xhaka did brilliantly to bring the ball away from danger and launch a counter-attack. Martin Odegaard took the ball on and rolled it square to Smith Rowe to stroke into the corner precisely from the edge of the box. Once again though, the lead didn’t last. Cesar Azpilicueta stole in front of Nuno Tavares to turn home a cross in front of goal. It was 2-2 inside half an hour. Nketiah and Tavares both sent shots wide in immediate response. As the half drew to a close Smith Rowe shot just wide after dancing past three defenders. The keeper was rooted to the spot as the ball flew just the wrong side of the woodwork. The intensity remained high at the start of the second half, and we took the lead for the third time on the hour mark. Tavares’s cross fell to Nketiah, he looked to have been dispossessed but he showed his striker’s instincts to stab home. The challenge was to hold the lead this time. Chelsea came back and Alonso had a shot blocked by Gabriel with Ramsdale beaten. We were getting deeper and deeper as Arteta brought on Cedric as an extra defender. The full back broke free on the right but his pulled back cross was behind Saka. Tavares smashed his chance wide. We continued to soak up the pressure before sealing the points late on. Saka was hauled down in the box by Azpilicueta, and stepped up himself to thump in goal number four. Four goals, three points, and the race for the top four is very much alive again. #arsenal #nketiah #Saka Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Nikita Parris, Tobin Heath, Mana Iwabuchi, Jordan Nobbs, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more. Arsenal completed a dramatic late comeback to earn three points in a frantic encounter with in-form Wolves. Despite raining the shots in throughout the 90 minutes, Hwang Hee-Chan's first-half strike had looked to be decisive for a resolute Wolves side - until our late turnaround. With 10 minutes remaining Substitute Nicolas Pepe spun and finished well inside the box to draw us level. But more drama was to follow. As the game entered injury-time, added on due to Wolves' time-wasting, captain Alexandre Lacazette fired in off the keeper at the near post to send the Emirates crowd into raptures. It felt like a big moment in the race for European qualification. It was a lively start that set the tone for the whole match. Gabriel Martinelli went down in the area inside the first two minutes, but it was a fair challenge, before Romain Saiss had the ball in the net for the visitors, only to be flagged offside. Within a few minutes though Wolves did have one that counted. Gabriel - who scored the only goal of the game two weeks ago at Molineux – was the villain this time. His backpass went straight to Hwang, and the South Korean scored from a tight angle. Raul Jimenez had a great chance to double the lead shortly afterwards after being set up by the influential Daniel Podence, but rolled his shot just wide. The Gunners needed to respond. Alexandre Lacazette fired into the side netting from close range before Martin Odegaard had shot blocked inside the area after superb work from Bukayo Saka. Saka himself had the next attempt, but his shot was well charged down after he beat the offside trap. Lacazette had a shot from long distance easily saved, then pulled one back for Gabriel Martinelli to stab over. It was all Arsenal, but the well organised Wolves defence were standing firm. The first chance of the second half fell to Wolves. Hwang sprinted through, threaded his shot through the legs of Aaron Ramsdale, but mercifully past the upright. Saka had a couple of shots blocked, but the congested Wolves penalty area was proving difficult to breach. Lacazette was the next to try his luck, but rather snatched at his shot on the turn. His next effort was better, but this time Jose Sa parried it away for a corner as we kept up the pressure going into the final 20 minutes. Then finally, with our 23rd shot of the evening, Pepe spun and fired home from Eddie Nketiah's cutback. It was no more than we deserved, and finally we had just under ten minutes to find a winner. Odegaard's shot over and Saka had a low shot saved and that looked to be that. But Lacazette had other ideas, and after firing a powerful effort at Sa, the ball was diverted home for a precious late winner. #arsenal #lacazette #nicolaspepe Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Nikita Parris, Tobin Heath, Mana Iwabuchi, Jordan Nobbs, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more. A sickening injury-time goal deprived 10-man Arsenal of taking anything from a highly-charged New Year's Day clash against City at the Emirates. Bukayo Saka fired us ahead during a superb first-half display, but the game was completely turned on its head during a crazy five-minute spell after the interval. Manchester City were awarded a controversial penalty, Gabriel Martinelli missed an open goal and Gabriel was sent off, all in the space of a few minutes, and in the end our defensive efforts against 11 men were in vain when Rodri scrambled home in injury time. Looking for our first league win over Manchester City since 2015, we set about the task from the first whistle, and were on top during the first half. We had conceded inside the opening quarter of an hour in each of our previous five home Premier League meetings with City, but we gave as good as we got in the first 15 minutes this time - and more. But the first chances went to the visitors. Gabriel made a crucial tackle to deny Raheem Sterling inside the box before Gabriel Jesus headed wide. We were seeing plenty of the ball though and had a very strong penalty appeal turned down by referee Stuart Attwell, who was centre of attention for much of the afternoon, when Ederson appeared to trip Martin Odegaard in the box. Some wonderful work from Thomas Partey - dominant in the middle of the pitch - created a chance for Gabriel Martinelli, only for his shot from a tight angle to be blocked. Of course City's forward players were a constant danger, but we were looking the more likely scorers, and just after the half hour we got our reward. A fine passing movement began with Ben White stepping in to win the ball, then moving it quickly to Partey, to Odegaard then to Kieran Tierney. The full back rolled his pass across the box and Saka finished superbly first time into the bottom corner. Another rapid passing move stretched the opponents out of shape, resulting in Martinelli curling just over from 20 yards, with the keeper beaten. Just before the interval the Brazilian again went close, with an effort that would have been a goal of the season contender had it nestled in the net. Picking the ball up in the left flank, he ran at the City defence, in to the box, then poking a shot just wide when he looked to have been crowded out. Then the game flipped completely in a five-minute spell early in the second half. And it was a controversial moment ten minutes into the second half that brought the champions level. Bernado Silva went down inside the area under the challenge of Granit Xhaka. The referee was well placed and waved away the initial appeals, but after consulting VAR, the spot kick was given. Riyad Mahrez stepped up and converted from 12 yards to make it 1-1. We could have been back ahead instantly, only for Nathan Ake to clear off his own line from an overhit backpass, and Martinelli missed the follow up with the goal at his mercy. It would get worse seconds later. Gabriel - booked for protesting the penalty award - was then sent off for a foul on the halfway line. The momentum had completely changed in the space of a few minutes. With Mikel Arteta at home, isolating after testing positive for covid, his assistant Albert Stuivenberg took over on the touchline ,and he had to make several adjustments to deal with the numerical disadvantage. City obviously monopolised possession from that point on, but the defence stood firm, the midfield looked organised, and our forward players ran their socks off. It all came to nothing though, when Rodri poked home from close range at the death. A hard result to take, certainly, but much pride to be taken from the performance. #arsenal #manchestercity #premierleague Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Tobin Heath, Mana Iwabuchi, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more. We booked our place in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after second half goals from Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah saw off the challenge of Leeds. Coming into the game off the back of a hugely-encouraging win against Aston Villa and ahead of a tricky clash at Leicester this weekend, it was no surprise to see Mikel Arteta shuffle his pack. There were nine changes to the team, with just Ben White and Emile Smith Rowe retaining their places – but most of the attention was focused on the bench, where Salah Oulad M'Hand was included for the first time. We made much of the early running in a tightly-contested first half, with Eddie Nketiah dragging a shot wide and Sead Kolasinac’s effort from a tight angle saved. But Leeds posed a real threat on the break, and had a clear sight of goal when Diego Llorente played a pinpoint ball over the back of our defence for Dan James to race in to, but Bernd Leno saved his shot. Our German goalkeeper then made an outstanding save to deny Jack Harrison, after the Leeds man took aim with a fierce shot at the back post, before Smith Rowe flashed one over at the other end. That was it for the first half, but after the interval we took the lead when Chambers – on for the injured Ben White seconds earlier – headed the ball over the line, and after a long pause, the goalline technology awarded it. We doubled our advantage when Nketiah – up against his former loan club – took advantage of an underhit headed backpass by racing on to it, lifting the ball past Illan Meslier and rolling it in for our second of the night. It was the striker’s seventh goal in eight Carabao Cup matches – for both us and Leeds. There was still time for Alex Lacazette to rob Kalvin Phillips and race through, but he blasted his shot over – but it mattered not, our place in the quarter-finals was secure. #arsenal #gabriel #ramsdale Enjoy match highlights, training and behind the scenes to get closer to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Vivianne Miedema, Nicolas Pepe, Alexandre Lacazette, Leah Williamson, Bernd Leno, Emile Smith Rowe, Nikita Parris, Tobin Heath, Mana Iwabuchi, Jordan Nobbs, Bukayo Saka, Takehiro Tomiyasu, Kim Little, Gabriel Martinelli, Aaron Ramsdale, Beth Mead, Ben White, Thomas Partey and more. Manchester City have suffered a blow ahead of next week's Manchester derby as Aymeric Laporte will be suspended for the trip to Old Trafford. It's hasn't been the best week for City as they were defeated in the Carabao Cup for the first time in over five years by West Ham on Wednesday and are now struggling at home to Crystal Palace. A poor backpass in the opening five minutes by Laporte was cut out by Conor Gallagher and the midfielder then slipped in Wilfried Zaha to give the visitors the lead. The Blues struggled to create any clear cut chances in the rest of the half and then things went from bad to worse in stoppage time as Laporte was shown a red card. The Spain international dragged down Zaha as he was about to go through on goal and was sent off after being adjudged to have denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity. As a result, Laporte will be unavailable for next week's match against Manchester United. But he will only have to serve a one-game ban and will be back for the following matches against Everton and West Ham. #footballindepth #mancity #laporte #MCICRY #crystalpalace #manchestercity #premierleague
