The narrative that Texas Tech is "out-recruiting" the heavyweights in Austin and College Station has shifted from a bold prediction to a statistical reality. As of May 2026, Joey McGuire’s staff has leveraged a "brand-first" mentality and massive NIL backing to consistently beat the Longhorns and Aggies for blue-chip talent within the state borders. The 2027 Power ShiftNowhere is this more evident than the Class of 2027 rankings. As of mid-May, Texas Tech’s class ranks No. 2 nationally, sitting ahead of the Texas Longhorns.Dominating the Top 10: According to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, the Red Raiders currently hold commitments from five of the top 10 Texas natives. The Crown Jewel: Landing five-star defensive lineman Jalen Brewster—the No. 1 player in the country on multiple sites—was a definitive statement. Brewster chose Lubbock over offers from Alabama, Miami, and Texas, signaling that the "top-tier" barrier has finally been broken. Strategic AdvantagesTexas Tech’s success is built on three pillars that the SEC-bound schools are currently struggling to match:NIL Aggression: Boosters like Cody Campbell and the The Matador Club have created one of the most transparent and lucrative NIL structures in the country. Tech is often able to "out-spend" rivals for specific high-priority targets. The "Vibes" vs. The "Grind": While Texas and A&M sell the prestige of the SEC, McGuire sells the "Red Raider Family" and immediate playing time. High school coaches across Texas have noted that Tech’s staff is more present in their hallways than any other program.Position-Specific Wins: Beyond Brewster, wins for four-star QB Kavian Bryant and five-star OT Cooper Hackett (who chose Tech over Oregon, OU, and A&M) show that Tech is winning the battles for the "premium" positions that traditionally went to Austin. While Texas A&M still holds the current No. 1 spot for 2027, the gap between the three schools has evaporated. Texas Tech is no longer fighting for the "leftovers"; they are taking the "first plate" in the Lone Star State. Manchester United are reportedly reconsidering their pursuit of Elliot Anderson after Nottingham Forest demanded more than £120 million for the midfielder. INEOS are now focusing more seriously on Carlos Baleba as a potential long-term replacement for Casemiro ahead of the summer transfer window. Reports suggest Brighton could now be open to selling Baleba, while Manchester City remain heavily linked with Anderson. United are determined to strengthen midfield depth without entering massive bidding wars this summer. The latest Manchester United transfer news also highlights growing competition from Arsenal, Chelsea, PSG, and Bayern Munich for Baleba as negotiations continue to develop behind the scenes. #ManchesterUnited #MUFC #CarlosBaleba #ElliotAnderson #PremierLeague Fast Manchester United updates and breaking news. The Los Angeles Dodgers kept the same lineup ahead of the second game of their series against the San Francisco Giants. The Dodgers are in desperate need of some offense, falling short yet again in their series opener against their divisional rivals. They scored just three runs in the game, ultimately losing to a late-inning surge from the visitors. Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto will start for the Dodgers on Tuesday, making his eighth start of the season for LA. He has been solid for the Dodgers this season, posting a 3.09 ERA through 43.2 innings pitched so far. He has 40 strikeouts under his belt, and has gone at least five innings in each of his starts so far this season. Designated hitter Shohei Ohtani leads the line for the Dodgers, and will look to break out of the slump which has plagued him for nearly two weeks now. The superstar has four hits in 36 at-bats in May, and has struggled to produce any offense for LA since the beginning of the month. He has just one homer since April 13. Shortstop Mookie Betts will bat second behind Ohtani, exactly where he batted upon his return from the injured list Monday. First baseman Freddie Freeman bats third, followed by right fielder Kyle Tucker and catcher Will Smith. One of the Dodgers’ hottest hitters in third baseman Max Muncy bats sixth, followed by center fielder Andy Pages, who is also on a decent run for LA. Left fielder Teoscar Hernandez will bat eighth, and second baseman Hyeseong Kim rounds out the lineup. Dodgers’ Lineup vs. Giants 1. Shohei Ohtani, DH 2. Mookie Betts, SS 3. Freddie Freeman, 1B 4. Kyle Tucker, RF 5. Will Smith, C 6. Max Muncy, 3B 7. Andy Pages, CF 8. Teoscar Hernandez, LF 9. Hyeseong Kim, 2B P. Yoshinobu Yamamoto, RHP Right-hander Adrian Houser will take the mound on Tuesday, and the Dodgers will look to capitalize on a weak point in the Giants’ rotation. Houser has a 6.19 ERA through seven starts, only striking out 19 batters through 36.1 innings pitched. He has allowed a home run in each of his last five starts, and has let multiple runs cross in every one of his outings this season. The Dodgers desperately need some help on offense, and could take advantage of a struggling pitcher to find the spark they need. Yamamoto will throw the first pitch of the game Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. PT. The Colorado Avalanche moved one win away from the Western Conference Final with a 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild in Game 4, but the biggest takeaway wasn’t just the score. This fast-break reaction covers the playoff swing, the controversy around Josh Manson’s return, and why Colorado’s depth could decide the series. In this video, we break down what happened in Game 4 and why the result feels even bigger than the final score suggests. Colorado now leads the series 3-1, putting Minnesota on the brink of elimination heading into Game 5. Key storylines covered: - The Avalanche beating the Wild 5-2 in Game 4 - Colorado taking a commanding 3-1 series lead - Josh Manson returning after a five-game absence and immediately drawing attention for a butt-end to Michael McCarron’s face - Manson receiving a four-minute double minor and later being fined $5,000 by the NHL, the league’s maximum allowable fine in this case - Michael McCarron calling Manson a dirty player after the game - Parker Kelly scoring the go-ahead goal in the third period for his first career playoff goal - Minnesota facing a must-win Game 5 while dealing with key absences, including Joel Eriksson Ek and Jonas Brodin The bigger point is that Colorado’s depth is showing up at the right time. In hockey, depth means the production a team gets beyond its biggest stars, especially from lower lines and supporting players. When someone like Parker Kelly delivers a key playoff goal, it shows how dangerous and balanced the Avalanche can be. On the other side, the Wild are running out of margin for error. Missing important players and trailing 3-1 in the series makes Game 5 a high-pressure test of whether they can extend their season. This short also looks ahead to the next big question: can a depleted Minnesota team survive Wednesday night in Denver, or is Colorado about to close the door?
