A late Gabriel goal five minutes from the end ensured we extended our winning start to the campaign to four games as came from behind to beat Fulham 2-1. Aleksandar Mitrovic had put the visitors in front early in the second half, but we found our way level when Martin Odegaard netted eight minutes later. But on 85 minutes the Brazilian defender finished from close-range to ensure a happy ending to Mikel Arteta’s 100th Premier League game as a manager. Unlike our rip-roaring start against Bournemouth last weekend, the first half was a quiet affair with chances were at a premium, despite us getting in plenty of promising positions within the Fulham half. Our first decent opportunity arrived on 15 minutes when Granit Xhaka shot wide after some neat play between Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Jesus, and it would take another quarter of an hour for Bernd Leno to be concerned again when Gabriel Martinelli saw a wicked corner strike the top of his crossbar. The German shot-stopper was back in familiar surroundings and was called into action again a few minutes later to deny his former teammate Bukayo Saka scoring after he raced through on goal, but Leno saved with his feet, while at the other end Aaron Ramsdale found himself relatively underworked during the opening 45 with Andreas Pereira ballooning a shot well over with the visitors’ best opportunity of the half. However, what the first half lacked, the second made up as both teams came out of the interval with added threat. Bobby De Cordoba-Reid flashed a header over before Mitrovic also miscued with a shot from distance, and then twice in two minutes Leno was called into action, firstly pushing away an Odegaard drive before stretching to claw a Jesus effort away from the bottom corner. But back came Fulham to ultimately break the deadlock on 55 minutes. Gabriel hesitated to pick a pass out from the back, and Mitrovic pounced, scooping the ball off the defender and tucking it past Ramsdale in front of the celebrating away fans. That setback saw Arteta shuffle his pack as he added some more attacking threat in Eddie Nketiah, and the positivity paid off eight minutes later as we pull level again when Saka slipped a pass in or Odegaard, who saw his shot deflect off Tosin Adarabioyo and decisive Leno. Both teams could sense a win was in the offing, and Ramsdale showed great reactions to push away a powerful Mitrovic header from a corner before Ben White’s excellent block thwarted De Cordova-Reid, and Nketiah flashed a shot just wide after cutting inside from the right before hitting straight at Leno when picked out by Gabriel Martinelli as the game entered the final 10 minutes. We continued to crank up the pressure and Martinelli saw a fierce curling shot flicked wide by the head of Adarabioyo, but with five minutes to go we got ourselves in front. A Martinelli corner caused havoc in a congested box and Leno failed to claim the ball which dropped at the feet of Gabriel who lashed it home to atone for his error, and after a VAR check for a possible handball, the goal was given to the relief of the majority of the Emirates. But the win was only secured when Ramsdale again pulled off a superb save to prevent Nathaniel Chalobah from grabbing a late equaliser, and maintain our 100 per cent record. #arsenal Subscribe to the Official Arsenal YouTube Channel: https://arsn.al/youtube Follow us on Facebook: https://arsn.al/facebook Follow us on Twitter: https://arsn.al/twitter Follow us on Instagram: https://arsn.al/instagram Follow us on TikTok: https://arsn.al/tiktok This is the Official YouTube channel for Arsenal Football Club. -TIMESTAMPS- 00:00 - Intro 00:03 - Team news for Saturday: Everyone is ok, Vieira, ESR and Cedric all played for the U23s so are all available. 00:22 - Confidence in the camp: Great to win and performance like we did but it’s the first two games but we need to improve. 00:42 - Not getting carried away: It’s just two games and we need to be conscious about that. 01:07 - Challenge Bournemouth pose: Bournemouth is a tough place to go, I played there many times. Last season they had a brilliant season and they will make it tough for us. 01:40 - Scott Parker continuing the tradition of how Bournemouth play: Scott has evolved the team in a positive way and they execute their game plan well. 02:12 - Scott Parker’s managerial career: I’m happy for him. The way he presents himself and I wish him best of luck, apart from tomorrow. 02:40 - Parker’s dress sense: He dresses well on the pitch and away from it. 03:02 - How impressed is Arteta with Gabriel Jesus: The biggest difference since I last worked with him is his maturity. I’m glad he’s having a good time here. 03:37 - What has Arteta seen different in Jesus since he came to England : He’s improved his game, he’s been working on it. What impresses me the most is his attitude and desire to win. 04:12 - How feared must other teams be of an inform striker: At top team you need top scorers, ideally three and when they hit those numbers that gives you every chance to be at the top. 04:35 - Transfer business: We’re still in the market, but we’re focussing on the players we have. 05:10 - Cedric playing in the U23s showing a message to other players: 100%. Marquinhos played in the U23s, Vieira and ESR played for fitness but Cedric wanted to play. 05:47 - When will Arteta look at the league table: I look at the table after 10 or 12 games, but I don’t focus too much on it. 06:16 - The right player coming in at Arsenal: It had to be the right person and the right player, otherwise it’s not worth it. 06:40 - Pepe leaving: While we can communicate, we’ve discussed that we have a big squad and it’s possible while the window is open. 07:42 - Xhaka leading without the armband: He doesn’t need the armband to be a leader. He’s a special player for the team and we need him to perform the same or better. 08:21 - Fans watching the team train: Anything to connect with the fans and we’ve had discussions to do that. 08:42 - Arteta’s managerial debut against Bournemouth: It was raining, I got very wet. I was excited and nervous but it was a long time ago. 09:00 - How much has Arteta evolved since his first managerial game: A club need a certain person or coach at certain times. 09:48 - Is this finally Arteta’s team: It was from the first day. Since I’ve got here it’s been my team, as we’re here to help improve them. 10:28 - Putting an arm around Ramsdale after a mistake: Aaron has been pretty good at the start of the season. But when you put the camera on them after a mistake, the feel it. 11:05 - Vieira’s versatility: Fabio’s versatility caught our attention and he gives us plenty of options. 11:42 - How Marquinhos has settled in: very happy with him. He’s a likeable figure around the training ground and has very good qualities. We’re keeping him here for the next couple of months. 12:46 - Saka’s contract situation: I’m very confident that us as a club and Bukayo are very aligned and it’s only a matter of time. 13:40 - Player relationships on the pitch: We want players to make us better. That’s the understanding and the quality, as well as the relationship between the players. 14:18 - Execution in the final third and the evident improvement: We need to develop that and be more unpredictable. 14:33 - Getting to more U23s games: When we have time we want to take the opportunity to support the players and coaches. We need to build the connection between the first team and the academy. 15:14 - Having a deep squad and keeping players happy: I think the first three of four weeks is the most tricky, so we need to manage the players who aren’t in the squad until then. -END- HaytersTV – Football Up Close.
