Japan Has Made One of the Greatest Comebacks in Volleyball History !!! Amazing Volleyball Match between Japan and Netherland and Crazy Comeback by Japan Volleyball Team. Japan are on two victories after their come from behind 3-2 (22-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-17, 15-8) triumph against the Netherlands on Saturday. Ran Takahashi scored 26 points in the winning effort. This is what the players said: Thijs Ter Horst (NED): After the first two sets they started to put more pressure on us, and from our side we started to make some mistakes that were unnecessary. I think we wanted to close the game too quickly, instead of just playing our game. That's why we made a few too many mistakes. We are here [at the VNL] for the first time. In addition a few guys have never played in the national team before, so it's an amazing start for their international career. We have to enjoy, learn and keep going. Ran Takahashi (JPN): The first two sets were very difficult for us, also mentally. However, what we did in the next three sets was showing in the game what we have worked on during training, and that was what helped us win this game. Japan are a strong team. We played two great sets against them. I think that we surprised them in defence and that should be a key for our next matches." Haku Ri (Japan): "During our meeting we talked that we have to win these three games against Australia, Italy and Argentina. Therefore, I am very satisfied that we managed to win yesterday and today. Japan won a bronze medal at the Tokyo 1964 Olympic Games, followed by silver at Mexico 1968 and a gold at Munich 1972. The years after this have been less successful. Japan missed three successive Olympic Games before returning at Beijing 2008, where they failed to win a match. Japan then failed to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games and also missed Rio 2016 after finishing seventh at the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Tokyo. They also failed to qualify for the 2014 FIVB World Championship the first edition they had missed in 54 years. They had previously won FIVB World Championship bronze medals in 1970 and 1974. Japan silver medalists at the 1969 and 1977 World Cup. Japan has been less successful in the World League era. The team has won the Asian Championships nine times and the Asian Games eight times.
