It's a must-win game for Australia as a loss here will lead them to a series defeat. Meanwhile India will aim at securing another win and claiming the series. India had a clinical outing in the first ODI in Mumbai crushing the visitors by five wickets. Riding on a sensational bowling performance especially from Mohammed Shami the hosts restricted their counterparts to a paltry 188 and later chased the total courtesy of a match-winning 108-run stand between KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja. But the struggle of their top-order against the moving ball was evident as Shubman Gill Ishan Kishan Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav departed for low scores. However the Men in Blue will back themselves to turn things around in the second game as their batting lineup will get a massive boost with regular skipper Rohit Sharma rejoining the squad. On the contrary Australia had a forgettable game in Mumbai and will be desperate to restore parity by winning this match. Although most of their batters got out cheaply Mitchell Marsh passed the Indian challenge with flying colours amassing an aggressive 65-ball 81 including ten fours and five humongous sixes. So moving on to this fixture the Australian think tank would like better returns from their key batters- Travis Head Steve Smith Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. Meanwhile their bowling unit led by Mitchell Starc received accolades as they made a match out of such a sub-par total. However despite reducing India to 39 for four the visitors allowed Rahul and Jadeja to consolidate something they should rectify in this do-or-die game. So can Australia stay alive in the series? Team news India: With only a day between the games India had no scheduled practice session on the eve of the game. Rohit Sharma is expected to lead the side after missing the first ODI due to personal commitments. India could rest Mohammed Shami who had a long bowl in the fourth Test and bowled full tilt in the first ODI. Team news Australia: Alex Carey missed the first ODI due to illness but is expected to be back for this one. David Warner who was sidelined with concussion and hairline fracture of the elbow is also likely to return and which middle order batter he could squeeze out is anybody's guess. What to expect: Scattered thunderstorms are forecast in the afternoon so a rain-curtailed game cannot be ruled out. The pitches here have tended to be very good for shot making and India amassed 387/5 against the West Indies here in 2019. Five out the eight men's ODIs here have ended in favour of the chasing side with one match tied. Pitch Conditions: Historically it is known for producing belters where batsmen can play through the line on even-paced wickets. However in recent times spinners have made their mark. The match will be taking place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Friday 17th March. The encounter is scheduled to start from 1:30 PM IST. After a very competitive Test series the two teams will now be battling it out in the fifty-over format. This series will be a serious ground for the two teams to test themselves out and also their bench strength for the upcoming ODI World Cup later this year. The last time these two teams met in the ODI format was back in 2020 on Australia's home turf. The Aussies managed to win that series by a margin of 2-1.
