A series that will be a great lead-up going into the World Cups! India and South Africa are two giants of the game of cricket. India is a powerhouse especially in their own backyard. On the other hand South Africa are in a transition phase but make no mistake they are a side full of talented players. The last time these two sides met in India earlier this year we witnessed a historic series which ended 2-2. As stated earlier the Proteas are no pushovers and this series certainly provides a perfect opportunity for India to test their playing XI against a quality side. Even the great England white-ball side failed against this South African team a few months earlier. Let's be honest India have a lot of chinks in their armour to deal with. The batting lineup is relatively sorted but the bowling has surely given nightmares to skipper Rohit Sharma. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has blown cold in the last few games. Bumrah has just returned from injury and is looking like a pale shadow of himself. Arshdeep is a bright spot but even he's inexperienced. The bowling needs a bit of tweak if India are to seal the series. South Africa boasts a strong bowling unit that will test this great Indian batting lineup. The likes of Rabada Parnell and Shamsi are world class bowlers and the Indian team can't take them lightly. The T20I series is about to start so who will come out on top? What to expect: Only two T20Is have been played at this venue and only one of them a full 20-overs-a-side affair in 2019. There's no threat of rain for Wednesday with cloudy skies and temperatures in the late 20s. Team News India Injuries/Availability: Mohammed Shami hasn't travelled for the first T20I and is still out after recently missing the Australia series due to covid. Deepak Hooda too is not ready due to a back injury. India will be without Bhuvneshwar and Hardik Pandya in this series who will undergo conditioning-related training at the NCA in Bengaluru in the lead-up to next month's World Cup. Tactics & Matchups: With Hardik not available these three games offer Pant the chance to prove he has more to offer to this Indian side than just his left-handedness as the team has shown a tendency to prefer Dinesh Karthik over him in recent games. Yuzvendra Chahal who has had the wood over the left-handed Quinton de Kock in T20s will also look for an upturn in form following ordinary outings against Australia. The two sides will face each other first in a three-match T20I series, and then three ODI matches will take place on October 6, 9 and 11. South Africa haven’t lost a T20I series in India till now, but this time the Men in Blue will look to change that equation. South Africa will play both T20I and ODI matches in India. The assignment will start with the T20I series and then ODIs will take place. This is South Africa’s second trip to India this year in less than four months. In the last series before travelling to Australia to take part in the 2022 edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the Indian men’s cricket team will take on South Africa in a white-ball series at home. The Temba Bavuma-led side will play three T20Is and as many ODI matches in India from September 28 to October 11. The white-ball assignment will start with a T20I battle between the two sides in Thiruvananthapuram on Wednesday (September 28), and then the caravan will shift to Guwahati and the final T20I will take place at Holkar Stadium in Indore. According to reports, the Indian team will depart for Australia on Wednesday (October 5), so a second-string Indian team will face the Proteas in the ODI matches, which begin on Thursday (October 6) in Lucknow, move to Ranchi, and conclude at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi The upcoming series is going to be the third occasion this year when these two sides will face each other in a bilatreal assignment. India started 2022 by playing two Tests and three ODIs against them in South Africa, but suffered defeat in all five matches. Then, after the end of IPL 2022, South Africa travelled to India for a five-match T20I series. In that series, in the absence of a rested Rohit Sharma and an injured KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant led the side and played a 2-2 draw. The final match was whitewashed due to rain. And now the South Africa are back for the white-ball series. And if that’s not all, then the two teams will face each other in Australia as well during the T20 World Cup, as they are part of the same group. India vs South Africa’s T20 World Cup match will take place in Perth on October 30. As far as the teams are concerned, then all the Australia-bound South African players will feature in the T20I series against India. As for India, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya will not be seen in action.
