HIGHLIGHTS | Arsenal vs Brentford (1-1) | Partey | Premier League

Thomas Partey’s goal at the end of a lightning fast counter-attack was not enough to take all three points against Brentford. After a low-key first half, which was in stark contrast to Tuesday night’s drama, we finally went ahead on the hour mark. The move started when David Raya claimed a Brentford corner inside his own six-yard box, and quickly released Declan Rice with a low roll out. Rice stormed forward before finding Partey, who was up from right back to drive home. Brentford levelled though when Yoane Wissa swivelled smartly inside the area to scoop his shot beyond Raya. We couldn’t find the winner after that, and attentions now turn back to the Champions League and our trip to Spain next week. After the euphoria of Tuesday’s 3-0 win over Real Madrid, there was a job to be done in the Premier League, to keep up the pursuit of Liverpool at the top of the table. Rice – fresh from his two incredible free-kicks on Tuesday night – was involved in our first two chances. He laid the ball off to Ethan Nwaneri inside the area who shifted it onto his left foot, but his shot was charged down. Then Rice started a move that resulted in Gabriel Martinelli winning a corner with a near post shot. Aside from that though, there was little incident of note in the opening 20 minutes. Raya was called into action midway through the half, saving with his legs when Kristoffer Ajer broke into the box from right back. We had the ball in the net shortly afterwards, but it was disallowed by the new semi-automated offside system via a VAR review. Nwaneri’s inswinging delivery was inch-perfect, but unfortunately the timing of Kieran Tierney’s run wasn’t. The full back, making his first Premier League start since May 2023, planted his header beyond Mark Flekken, but replays showed he’d drifted offside at the crucial moment. The visitors were arguably lucky not to be a man down when Christian Norgaard dived in with a scissor-challenge on Martinelli. The referee deemed it only worthy of a yellow card. A vital last-ditch block from Ajer kept the match goalless. William Saliba – who was seeing more of the ball than most in forward areas - floated his pass into Martinelli, who took it under his spell wonderfully first time, before getting his shot away. But the Norwegian defender dived in to deny him. The half ended with Leandro Trossard trying his luck from 20 yards. While his left-footed drive didn’t lack power, Flekken was able to push it away for a corner. We took the lead on the hour mark, and it was the result of a simply stunning counter attack. Raya claimed a Brentford corner inside a crowded penalty area and immediately rolled the ball out to Rice. Our midfielder strode forward and turned on the turbo boosters. He carried the ball sixty, seventy yards before slipping a pass to the overlapping Partey who rammed his shot high into the net. From box to box in the blink of an eye. Mikel Arteta sent on Martin Odegaard, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Bukayo Saka in a triple change just afterwards. We looked set to take charge with the Emirates crowd raising the decibel levels again. But it was Brentford who struck back. This time we didn’t clear the danger from a corner, and when the second cross came back in, Nathan Collins headed it down for Wissa to finish well, with his back to goal. It was back to square one, and we had the chance to instantly restore the lead when Saka dispossessed Flekken on the edge of the area. He spent just a fraction too long on the ball though, and he was tackled before he could get his shot away. We had to play the final ten minutes, including injury-time, with just 10 men, as Jorginho went off injured after we’d already made all five subs. Saka went on a mazy run deep in stoppage time in an attempt to find the late winner, but his low cutbacks were twice cut out. #arsenal #premierleague Enjoy highlights, training, behind the scenes and documentaries to get closer to the likes of Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, Alessia Russo, Leah Williamson, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus, Kim Little, Declan Rice, Beth Mead, Gabriel Martinelli, Ben White, Stina Blackstenius and more. MERINO SMELLS DANGER I Mikel Arteta I Leicester 0-2 Arsenal
MERINO SMELLS DANGER I Mikel Arteta I Leicester 0-2 Arsenal

Relieved Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praises Mikel Merino and Ethan Nwaneri for making the difference in a big Premier League win at Leicester. TIMESTAMPS 0:00 INTRO 00:13 - Game: First 20/25 minutes we couldn’t get momentum. The second half was different, we had much more urgency. Myles has to make a magic touch to deny them. 01:09 - Too simple to say Merino is the solution?: We’re going to have to share the load, that will restrict what we do. Hopefully it’ll work as well as today. 01:48 - Merino: He’s a goal threat, he has the capacity to execute. 02:21 - Front three - The game suited them more later, we felt Merino could impact the game and he did. 02:46 - Key to put pressure on: There’s a been a lot of noise, and we had to go show that we could do it. 03:19 - Idea with Merino up front: I put all the options, but there were too many. We felt it was him in that moment. 03:57 - Someone else stepping up?: Ethan hit the bar and post. The team has a lot of capacities. We are a threat from every situation. 04:34 - Sterling struggles: The first 25 minutes we weren’t at our standards, that affects the front players. 05:00 - Lewis-Skelly touch: I didn’t know where it had gone, but it was amazing. 05:28 - Joe Cole said Nwaneri like Messi? What he’s shown, that’s him. His age always puts a question mark on it. But you need to play with that confidence and freedom. Massive talent. 06:12 - Ethan was one of the few in the first half that supplied threat. He put the ball on the plate for Merino. @HaytersTV – Football Up Close. Love it and look forward. 01:25 - Finding solutions: I understand the narrative. We’ve been through a lot and sustained a level of performances and results. 01:53 Players up front?: you don’t have to be creative im sure you’ll get it right. 02:04 - Nwaneri: He’s been playing as an attacking midfielder. He’s been really good. 02:20 - Sterling: For all the players, it’s between all of us. It’s adding values from different players. 02:58 - Saka: it’s too early. It’s generating momentum, it will be crucial. 05:47 - To maintain the standards and be connected. It’s must better to achieve that. 06:30 - Playing people out of position: We’ll have moments. Hopefully we’ll be better. 06:55 - Leicester: very difficult at home. Top opponents and you can see the spirit there. They are very much alive. 07:37 - Serious injuries: the evidence we can provide is very limited. We have players who are injured who have played 130 in two seasons. It’s an accident ready to happen. 08:38 - Players going down injured: Big pain in the stomach. But you have no time, you need to look forward. 09:35 - Would you have brought a striker in: We are always out in that situation. No chance. 10:32 - Spirit in the group?: there’s always a moment, when we’re training really well. We have to turn it around. 11:19 - Reaction?: It was what else do we have to do. 11:32 - Havertz: He was going to stop a shot, and felt his hamstring. 12:01 - Changing approach: there are certain things we need to adapt. 12:50 - Workload players have: the intensity is going to a different levels. It’s a consequence of that. 13:34 - Solutions: we’ll explore every situations. 13:52 - Max Dowman: We had max and many kids out with us. It’s clear on the rules, very difficult to change that. 14:27 - Playing kids from the start: good option, we’ll have to explore. We are ready. 15:07 - Bodies don’t help?: an ability that can play in our level. 15:26 - Adapt training to current scenarios: We train less than ever, there’s no time to train. The problem is you don’t train the muscle. 16:28 - Show a lot of resilience: look at the other factors that can give you an edge you didn’t have before. 17:04 - Everton equaliser: That helps. Massive belief, the players reaction gets me in the mood. 17:42 - Sterling: He’s been much more involved, he’s earned the merit. Other players will have more exposure. @HaytersTV – Football Up Close.
