As much as the clubs meet, it is an equal competition between the two biggest fan clubs in the country - Manjappada and West Block Blues. The hosts are not having the best of their times. Although Kerala Blasters are unbeaten in the 5 matches they have played, the four draws and a win has awarded them only seven points. Even the beautifully carved attacks lack their finishing touch. Chennaiyin FC were crowned champions for the second time in Indian Super League history after a valiant 3-2 comeback win against mighty Bengaluru FC at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, Bengaluru, on Saturday. Sunil Chhetri had opened the scoring as early as the ninth minute but a brace from Mailson Alves and a beautiful goal from Raphael Augusto ensured that the unfancied Chennaiyin lifted the title once again after 2015 when they defeated FC Goa, also at home. Miku scored a late goal but it hardly mattered in the end. ( It was a brilliant night of enthralling football as both sides went for the jugular. The margins were fine in the end, but the scoreline was proof of Chennaiyin’s ruthlessness in front of goal. It took just nine minutes for the first goal and it was the usual suspect Chhetri who capitalised on a deflected cross from Udanta Singh to score a lovely low header. It was Mailson Alves who had deflected the cross but would make amends later with two goals. The turning point came in the 67th minute when Nelson was at it again - this time however, Jeje Lalpekhlua, who hardly made a mark on the game, made a vital contribution. Nelson started the move by finding Jeje, who chose Raphael Augusto in a good position. Augusto finished the move off with a curling finish which left Gurpreet with no chance at all. At 3-1, Bengaluru had no chance but to go all-out attack. Miku scored in added time though, converting from Udanta’s cross, but it was too late by then. Chennaiyin ran down the clock and emerged champions to equal ATK’s record.

Sunil Chhetri scored twice as Bengaluru FC defeated Mumbai City FC 3-1 in an Indian Super league game to claim the top spot in the points table. The India skipper, who was awarded a penalty kick in the 43rd minute, scored the first goal of the match to give his side a 1-0 lead. The star striker then extended his team's lead by scoring the 52nd minute of the game while Venezuelan striker Miku made it 3-0 in the 63rd minute. With this win, Bengaluru is at top of the table with 21 points and dumped fifth-placed Mumbai to their second straight defeat at home and fifth overall from 11 outings. In ATK, Bengaluru could find an opponent who are not in the best of shape. After stitching a couple of wins on the bounce, the Teddy Sheringham-coached outfit stumbled at home against FC Goa who braved unprecedented circumstances to hold the twice champions 1-1. ATK had registered wins over Mumbai City FC and Delhi Dynamos away and home respectively before a much-delayed kickoff due to "unavoidable" circumstances at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata saw them throw away an early lead to share the spoils. The tie which started very late on Wednesday and ended in the wee hours of Thursday saw star Irish forward Robbie Keane net in the fourth minute before Ferran Corominas restored parity. Goa arrived at the venue almost an hour before kickoff and landed in the city that night itself in unforeseen circumstances. But braving fatigue, the Gaurs stole a point leaving Sheringham and co. high and dry. On top of that, Keane has been recently linked to a move back to boyhood club Wolverhampton Wanderers who want their former player to join them in their English Premier League party.
