However as the surface in Hyderabad will suit KKR more they will likely emerge victorious in this match. The IPL 2023 campaign of Kolkata Knight Riders hasn't been much different from that of their opponents. They had an impressive start to the tournament registering thumping wins over RCB and GT. But unfortunately they couldn't sustain the momentum and succumbed to five crushing defeats in their subsequent six fixtures. Barring RCB KKR haven't been able to prevail over any of their opponents. Even they lost it by 23 runs when these two sides met the previous time in the tournament. Their batting has been decent; it's the bowling department that has let them down. So the Knight Riders would want their bowlers to step up and put up an impressive show tomorrow. The journey of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2023 has been shambolic to say the least. Marred by inconsistency the Hyderabad batters are yet to put up an impact as a unit. Their bowling department has been even worse failing to strike at crucial junctures. However they finally broke their three-match losing streak last time defeating Delhi Capitals by a narrow nine-run margin. Riding on flamboyant half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen SRH posted a massive 197 and later defended it successfully to record their third victory of this season. Despite the win they still have plenty of problems with Harry Brook's miserable batting form being the most prominent one. He has been shuffled enough throughout the order but is yet to find a suitable entry point for himself. So moving on to this game SRH would like better returns from their core players- particularly Brook Aiden Markram and Rahul Tripathi. On Thursday Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders will take on each other in the 47th group-stage match of the ongoing Indian Premier League season. The high-octane clash is scheduled at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium in Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad After making loads of changes to that top order throughout the season SRH finally seemed to get things right in their last match against DC. They will likely retain the same group and probably replace Akeal Hosein with Marco Jansen. Tactics & Matchups: Suyash Sharma and Varun Chakaravarthy have been amongst the wickets for KKR this season but Aiden Markram's record against leg spin in IPL is pretty good. He averages 46.50 at a strike rate over 145 so his presence in the middle overs will be crucial for SRH. Kolkata Knight Riders KKR will have a big call to make at the top of the order after Rahmanullah Gurbaz's 81 in the last game. If Jason Roy is fit he might replace David Wiese as the fourth overseas player. Tactics & Matchups: Andre Russell usually bowls at the death for KKR these days. But there is a case for him to bowl early in the game this time given his superior record against Rahul Tripathi and Mayank Agarwal. They got an early wicket of Prabhsimran Singh in the Powerplay and then their two spinners Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya bowled well in the middle overs. Jofra Archer Mumbai's premier bowler was hammered all over the park as he ended with 56 runs in his four overs. Akash Madhwal though showed signs of being a good death bowler but overall it has been another disappointing performance from Mumbai bowlers. The home team Punjab lost Prabhsimran Singh early but Dhawan batted with intent although Matthew Short failed to get going at the other end. Dhawan was outfoxed by Chawla though and Short also could not last longer. However that turned out to be a blessing in disguise for Punjab as Jitesh walked out with his usual swagger. He had Livingstone alongside him and both smashed Mumbai bowlers all over the park with Jofra Archer too not spared. Both of them stayed unbeaten and stitched together a stand of 119 off 53 balls as Livingstone scored 82 off 42 balls and Jitesh Sharma ended with 49 off 27 balls to take Punjab to a mammoth total here. Punjab go into the break with a big smile on their face. Their powerful batting line-up has once again shown its supremacy against a relatively inexperienced Mumbai bowling attack. Absolute carnage in the death overs again and they have smashed 69 runs in the last five overs. They have reached a very good score now and Mumbai would need to bat well to chase down another 200-plus total. Rohit Sharma departs without troubling scorers and Mumbai are off to the worst possible start! Rishi Dhawan bowls this on a length and wide outside the off pole. Rohit Sharma reaches for this and looks to go over the off side field but slices this towards third man. Matthew Short runs along the boundary and takes a well-judged catch to his left. Arshdeep bowls this back of a length and into the batter form outside off. Ishan Kishan sways back and gets the bat onto the ball. It goes over the short third man fielder for four more runs. Green gets enough bat on this to send it flying to the fence! Curran bowls this short and wide outside the off pole. Green slashes at this hard and gets this off the thickish outside edge towards third man for four runs. When Green hits this ball it stays hit! The Chennai Super Kings have an uphill task ahead of them. Batting first the Royals got off to a sensational start thanks to Yashasvi Jaiswal. The youngster from Mumbai came out all guns blazing and hit some glorious shots up front. He struck at a brisk rate and his opening partner Jos Buttler played the role of a second fiddle. The Royals scored 64 at the end of the powerplay. There was no stopping Jaiswal as he continued playing his strokes after the fielding restrictions. He brought up his fifty off just 26 balls. Ravindra Jadeja broke the 86-run opening stand when he dismissed Buttler on 27. Skipper Sanju Samson departed on a run-a-ball 17 in the 14th over. Tushar Deshpande dismissed Jaiswal on a 43-ball 77 in the same over which helped CSK to get back in the contest. The Super Kings bowled well and the Royals lost Shimron Hetmyer (8) in the 17th over who was promoted up the order. Devdutt Padikkal joined Dhruv Jurel and both played some excellent shots. Both Padikkal (27* off 13 balls) and Jurel (34 off 15 balls) hit some lusty blows at the end to power their side to 202 at the end of their 20 overs. The Super Kings picked up five wickets in total with Deshpande finishing with two. They went on a journey throughout their innings. An odd ball is turning and gripping but the surface looks good for batting. The Super Kings will have to create history tonight as they will be chasing the highest total at this venue. The former departed after scoring 41 in 21 deliveries while Miller fell four runs short of his fifty but did the necessary damage with Rahul Tewatia towards the end. The two hitters for the host took them beyond the 200-run mark and they will be silently confident of their chances in this game. David Miller and Rahul Tewatia have shown why they are the best finishers in the Indian T20 League! Gujarat have finished strong as they put on 70 runs in the last four overs and have 207 runs on the board which they will be mightily pleased with. Mumbai's death bowling woes continued as they were unable to wrap up the good effort they put in for the first 16 overs. Arjun Tendulkar and Jason Behrendorff bowled with discipline with the former drawing first blood. The spinners controlled the middle overs well with Piyush Chawla taking two crucial wickets and Kumar Kartikeya dismissing the dangerous-looking Shubman Gill. Cameron Green had an off day as he conceded 39 runs in two overs while Riley Meredith and Jason Behrendorff also went for plenty in their last overs despite taking one wicket each. Captain to captain and Hardik Pandya comes out on top against Rohit Sharma. This is banged in a bit shorter at 144 clicks and angled into the batter. Sharma tries to back away and play at it but gets himself into a real tangle. Sharma ends up half-pulling it but the ball comes off the leading edge and pops straight up. Pandya doesn't have to move much and takes a simple catch. Dream start for Gujarat. Also Cameron Green walks out to bat now. Connects one and gets the maximum result. Pitched up on off stump Cameron Green backs away and thumps it over the long off fence for a biggie. A real sorter from Hardik Pandya but it costs him four runs. Bangs in a quick bumper and gets it right around the helmet. Cameron Green looks to take it on but almost gets taken out. Wriddhiman Saha fails to get a hand on it and the ball runs away into the fence. In this IPL Mohammed Shami has bowled 70 dots in the first six overs which is the most by a bowler. Gets one away and that will help Ishan Kishan boost his confidence. Short of a length around middle and leg Kishan picks it up and short-arm jabs it over mid-wicket for a boundary. Mumbai Indians are struggling in the run chase of 208. They have lost Rohit Sharma very early to Hardik Pandya and have just 29 runs in six overs. Both Shami and Pandya bowled magnificently and kept the batters on bay. Green is trying to smash them but Kishan is unable to put proper bat on the ball. T Natarajan bowls this on a good length around middle and leg nips away a bit Mitchell Marsh looks to work it away but misses and gets hit on the pads. There is a huge appeal for LBW but turned down as it looks like pitching down the leg side. However UltraEdge shows that no bat involved and Ball Tracking indicates three reds. It was exactly two weeks ago that Rinku Singh smashed all those sixes to pull off that unbelievable heist. Since then KKR have lost all their three matches and find themselves close to the bottom with problems in too many departments. And today they welcome a high-flying CSK a team that has traditionally had the edge over them with a 17-9 head-to-head record in the IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders will have to score the season's biggest score to register a difficult win at home against Chennai Super Kings. Magnificent batting performance from all the CSK batters have propelled the yellow army to the season's biggest score so far as they finish at 235/4 against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. After putting in to bat first by Nitish Rana the openers started with a flash adding 59 runs in the powerplay. Suyash Sharma the new recruit for KKR got the first wicket in the 8th over knocking Ruturaj Gaikwad's off stump as the opener walked back for 35. Ajinkya Rahane joined the already set Devon Conway and started in aggressive fashion hitting all the bowlers all over and also played some unorthodox strokes for boundaries. Devon Conway scored his fifty in 34 balls and was out for 56 to Varun Chakravarthy. CSK crossed 100 in the 11th over when Shivam Dube (50 off 21) walked in at number 4 and continued where Conway left off hitting 5 big sixes and 2 fours bringing up his 50 in 20 balls. Rahane and Dube the Mumbai boys added 85 runs for the third wicket when Dube perished in the 18th over to Kulwant Khejroliya. Ravindra Jadeja also scored quickly in his 8-ball 18-run cameo to push CSK past 200. Khejroliya chipped with Jadeja's wicket in the final over bringing MS Dhoni out int he middle who remained unbeaten to take the score to 235/4. Ajinkya Rahane was unbeaten at 71 in just 29 balls hitting 6 fours and 5 sixes in his innings. A total of 18 sixes were hit in the innings. Suyash Sharma (1/29) was the most economical of the lot with Kulwant getting 2 wickets for 49 runs. No other bowler had an economy of under 11 for the Knight Riders. An exciting second innings await us as KKR face an uphill task of getting the biggest score of the season.
