Ohio State Buckeyes vs Utah Utes postgame reaction for "The Granddaddy of Them All," The Rose Bowl, and man! What a game it was! The affair was a WILD one that was back and forth, particularly in the second half, with plenty of offense if you like that sort of thing. Ohio State Football and C.J. Stroud had a field day behind excellent protection from the offensive line. He went 37/46 for 573 yards, had 6 touchdowns, and threw just 1 interception. He was on the mark all game and his receivers made life easy for him, doing an excellent job of getting open. The obvious choice for player of the game was one of those said receivers, Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Njigba had 15 receptions for 347 yards and 3 touchdowns. Marvin Harrison Jr. also had himself a day with 6 receptions for 71 yards and 3 touchdowns. TreVeyon Henderson added another 83 yards on the ground off of 17 carries. Utah Football had their way for much of the first half, scoring 35 points and taking a 35-21 lead into the locker room. Unfortunately, they could only muster up 10 more points in the second half. Cameron Rising had a solid day throwing the ball, going 17/22 for 214 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. His backup, Bryson Barnes, came in on Utah's final drive with Rising out injured and went 2/2 for 23 yards and 1 touchdown, keeping Utah in the game. But in the end, Kyle Whittingham's Utes couldn't outlast Ryan Day's Buckeyes. Despite Rising adding another 92 yards with his legs and Brant Kuithe having 6 receptions for 77 yards, Utah was unable to outscore Ohio State. Nothing to be down about, though. Many teams cannot accomplish that task, with or without star players opting out.
An instant fan reaction to Michigan football's huge wint over the Ohio State Buckeyes in The Game 2021. Jim Harbaugh, Josh Gattis, Mike Macdonald and Michigan did mostly everything it needed to do in order to win this game 42-27 as it controlled the line of scrimmage and the trenches on both sides of the football. Hassan Haskins ran 28 times for 169 yards (6 yards per carry) and 5 touchdowns and Blake Corum ran 6 times for 87 yards (14.5 yards per carry) while TreVeyon Henderson averaged just 4.4 yards per carry on 17 carries (74 yards) and Miyan Williams had 7 carries for only 20 yards (2.9 yards per carry). C.J. Stroud did everything he could as a young, stud freshman quarterback in his first shot in this rivalry. He went 34/49 for 394 yards, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. The main three receivers for the Buckeyes had excellent days as usual, but the Michigan defense was able to hold one of them (Olave) under 100 yards and none of them REALLY went bonkers. Jaxon Smith-Njigba had 11 receptions for 127 yards, Garrett Wilson had 10 receptions for 119 yards and one (amazing) touchdown, and Chris Olave had 7 receptions for 88 yards. As speculated by the media, the Michigan edge rushers were in Stroud's face all game long, making it really difficult for him. Aidan Hutchinson ended up with 3 sacks on the day and broke the all-time Michigan single-season sack record (UNREAL- congratulations to him!) and David Ojabo added another 1 sack in this game. Ultimately, Ryan Day's team had a tough time and the play-calling wasn't the most ideal to most Buckeye fans. Jim Harbaugh earns his first victory as a coach in this rivalry (now 1-5 against his biggest foe) and will compete in the Big Ten Championship Game next Saturday in Indianapolis (Lucas Oil Stadium). GO BLUE!
