Game Preview Marcus Camby has two goals tonight: lead Massachusetts to its first Final Four; avoid becoming a poster child for one of Allen Iverson's I-didn't-think-little-guys-could-do-that dunks. The two aims may be inherently linked when top-seeded Massachusetts faces second-seeded Georgetown in the 6 p.m. NCAA East Regional final at the Georgia Dome. The Minutemen (34-1) rely on the defensive presence of Camby, their 6-foot-11 All-America center and shot-blocker. The Hoyas (29-7) depend on the offensive fireworks of Iverson, their 6-foot All-America guard and acrobat. They won't be guarding one another, but rest assured, they'll meet. Or perhaps collide is a better word, because Iverson's game is predicated on his headlong drives to the basket, which is where Camby will be waiting. ''It doesn't seem like he's 6-foot tall the way he gets up in the air,'' Camby said of Iverson. ''I know he can jump over me and dunk it, and I don't want to be anybody's poster child, so I'm going to try and block everything.'' Camby, the leading candidate for national Player of the Year, averages 3.8 blocks per game and is the fourth player in NCAA history to reach 300 blocks in his first three seasons. He is the primary reason the Minutemen are third nationally in field goal percentage defense at 38.5. But don't think for a minute that Iverson will be deterred. He averages 25.1 points and has scored 30 or more in five of Georgetown's last nine games. ''It doesn't matter who's in there,'' Iverson said. ''I'm going to the hole anyway. I'm not going to change, even if there's two or three Marcus Cambys in there.'' And what about Carmelo Travieso, the UMass guard with a reputation for shutting down big-time scorers? ''I don't think anybody can play me one-on-one without handchecking me,'' Iverson said. ''That's just the way I am. I'm a very confident person.'' Confident enough to have attempted a Georgetown-record 29 shots in Thursday's semifinal victory against Texas Tech. Confident enough to keep shooting and driving when only 10 went in. Good enough to finish with a game-high 32 points, many coming in clutch situations. ''If I was on a team that just needed me to distribute the ball, that's what I'd do,'' Iverson said. ''Coach (John Thompson) gave me a role, and I accepted it. This team needs me to score. ''Before I came here, Coach Thompson told me he'd put the ball in my hands and let me play my style of basketball. He's been true to his word.'' Iverson has the Hoyas in their first regional final since 1989 and on the brink of their first Final Four since 1985. Camby has the Minutemen in their second consecutive East final and one game away from their first Final Four. But both face daunting challenges besides one another. Camby must confront Georgetown's rugged front line players - Othella Harrington, Jahidi White, Ya-Ya Dia and company. Iverson must duel UMass guards Travieso and Edgar Padilla, composed veterans who will make him pay for any missteps. The Hoyas undoubtedly will try to muscle the 220-pound Camby, much the way Oklahoma State and Big Country Reeves did in last year's East final, won by the Cowboys. Camby had just six points and four rebounds before fouling out, while Reeves dominated with 24 points and 10 boards. ''That game showed me what I needed to do to improve,'' Camby said. ''I can't forget about it because everybody brings it up.''

Guentzel nets 1st career hat trick as Penguins win Jake Guentzel picked up his first career regular-season hat trick Saturday to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins past the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets 4-2 in a Metropolitan Division matchup. Tanner Pearson also scored, Kris Letang had three assists and Sidney Crosby had two assists for Pittsburgh, which is 3-7-3 in its past 13 games but has points in four straight. The Penguins have won six in a row against the Blue Jackets. Pittsburgh goalie Casey DeSmith stopped 37 of 39 Columbus shots. Scott Harrington and Cam Atkinson scored for Columbus, which was 6-1-1 in its previous eight games. Joonas Korpisalo made 32 saves for the Blue Jackets. Harrington, a former Penguin, scored his fourth career goal for a 1-0 Columbus lead at 5:14 of the first period. His shot from the slot grazed DeSmith's left arm. Pearson tied it just 45 seconds later. Evgeni Malkin won a faceoff to Korpisalo's right, with the puck going to Phil Kessel, who quickly fed Pearson for a shot off the goaltender's left pad. All three of Pearson's goals this season have come in the past four games. Guentzel got his night started 1:28 later to give Pittsburgh the lead for good. Crosby, down low, fed Guentzel with a backhand pass. Those two hooked up on a similar play at 16:31 of the first, Crosby again using his backhand to set up Guentzel to make it 3-1. Crosby and Guentzel, part of the Penguins' top line, were playing without right winger Patric Hornqvist, who sustained a concussion a night earlier. Atkinson extended his goal streak to seven games, longest in the NHL this season, to cut it to 3-2 at 13:04 of the second. He snapped a shot past defenseman Olli Maatta and under DeSmith's pads. Guentzel completed his hat trick at 15:54 of the second, this time on a rebound, for his team-leading 11th goal and a 4-2 Pittsburgh edge. The Blue Jackets' Alexander Wennberg (incidental goalie interference) and the Penguins' Kessel (offsides) had potential goals waived off in the second period.
After a great passing play, Andy bats in his 2nd of the night and 10th of the year. Box Score: Josh Anderson (Lukas Sedlak, Scott Harrington) (9:57)
No matter how many shots he took, Allen Iverson couldn't beat the Atlanta Hawks by himself. Iverson scored 53 points, the fifth-highest total of his career, but Joe Johnson had 24 to lead the Hawks over the Philadelphia 76ers 111-108 on Friday night. "I'm as disappointed as everybody else on my team," Iverson said. "We wanted to go into the holidays with a win. We'll have to get this one out of our system and come back to work." Zaza Pachulia added a career-high 23 points, including the go-ahead free throws, and Al Harrington scored 22 for Atlanta, which won its fourth straight at home and its fifth in the last seven games overall. "We shared the ball," Pachulia said. "We had 29 assists, and that's great. We shot pretty good also, 54 percent. It's tough to beat a team like that." Iverson, who entered with a league-best 33.5 scoring average, had 21 points and six rebounds in the first half. He shot 17-of-31 and hit 19 of 21 free throws, the last coming on a three-point play that cut the Atlanta lead to 101-100 with 5:20 remaining. He broke the record that Shareef Abdur-Rahim set at 7-year-old Philips Arena with a 50-point performance against Detroit on Nov. 23, 2001. Iverson has scored 50 in nine games, including a career-best 60-point effort in a 112-99 win over Orlando last Feb. 12. Iverson gave the Sixers their last lead when his runner over Johnson and Pachulia made it 105-104 with just under 3 minutes remaining. Pachulia then made two free throws, then added a jumper for a three-point lead. On Philadelphia's last five possessions, John Salmons missed two straightaway 3-point attempts and had a fast-break layup blocked by Atlanta's Josh Smith. "When someone is scoring like that, everybody else isn't involved," Harrington said. "When they do shoot, they're ice cold, so that worked in our favor." Iverson drove past Salim Stoudamire and Harrington after a steal for the Sixers' last basket, a layup that cut Atlanta's lead to 110-108 with 36 seconds remaining. Philadelphia had the ball with 2.4 seconds left when Iverson made an inbounds pass in front of the Atlanta bench to Chris Webber, who missed an 8-foot turnaround jumper. "I told him before the play that if both men went to me, to go to the basket and get a good shot," Iverson said. "Things didn't go the way we wanted tonight." Johnson made one free throw, then jumped to intercept Andre Iguodala's long pass from the Hawks' baseline. Two free throws by Iverson gave the Sixers their biggest lead at 82-70 in the third quarter, but the Hawks went on a 26-9 run to go up 96-91 on Stoudamire's fast-break layup. "We showed a lot of character coming back from 12 down," Atlanta coach Mike Woodson said. "I thought Iverson was tremendous tonight. He created so many problems for us, but I like that we found a way to overcome that and get the win. We had a number of guys step up in the fourth quarter." Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks could tell a big difference when center Samuel Dalembert picked up his fifth foul with 9:02 remaining. "Our defense is a lot better with Sam in the game, because he can block shots and rebound the ball," Cheeks said. "They're a jump-shooting team, with the exception of Harrington. We just have to get better in all areas defensively." Game notes Iverson stayed home Thursday night to take care of an undisclosed personal matter before joining the Sixers for the morning shootaround Friday. ... Philadelphia F Michael Bradley did not make the trip because his wife was expecting to give birth. ... Johnson had eight assists. ... Webber added 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Sixers. ... Iverson, who leads the NBA in minutes, played the entire second half
