As Forest pressed forward deep into the second half, quick passing around the edge of the penalty area pulled the Sheffield United defence out of shape before Peter Withe calmly finished to make it 5-1 to the Reds. The City Ground crowd erupted as Forest completed one of their most entertaining performances of the season. Peter Withe, who would later go on to achieve major success in English football, was already showing the strength, composure and finishing ability that made him such an important attacking player. His intelligent positioning and composed finish capped off an excellent team performance from Nottingham Forest. Sheffield United battled throughout the match, but Forest’s pace, passing and attacking movement proved too much on the day.
