Bishop’s Stortford 3-2 Cheshunt Match Report 31/8/19 Jamie Cureton scored a brace to help the Blues to a 3-2 win against Hertfordshire rivals Cheshunt. After celebrating his 44th birthday during the week, Cureton opened the scoring in the fourth minute. Shomari Barnwell - making his home debut - flicked the ball on from a long kick to Cureton and who ran in the left channel, delicately scooping the ball over Ambers’ goalkeeper Harry Girling from a tight angle. A soft foul by Mark Haines of Tom Hitchcock gifted the visitors a chance of an equaliser, and it was Hitchcock - who played against Harlow and Heybridge Swifts in pre-season for the Blues - that sent Fred Burbidge the wrong way to level the game. Cureton's second was nearly identical to his first, with another Barnwell flick on presenting a shooting chance, and he converted again into the bottom corner with a lobbed finish. Ryan Charles scored soon after, dribbling past two defenders before rifling a low shot into the bottom left of the goal. In the second half, the Blues looked rocked by the loss of captain Sam Robbins in defence, and as a result Cheshunt grew into the game. Aaron Greene made a welcome return to the action, he came off the bench for his first competitive appearance this season after suffering an injury in the last friendly. In a frantic few minutes, Ben Worman had a shot cleared off the line before Ryan Henshaw headed away a goal-bound effort at the other end. The sustained pressure from our visitors told, with Taylor McKenzie heading home from close range, after no defenders had picked up the man at the far post waiting to deliver the ball across. The Blues kept the ball - something that they had struggled to do after the break - in the corners to see out the win. That makes it two wins from two in home league games this season for the Blues and the three points moves us up to 7th, while Cheshunt are yet to get a point on the road and sit in 19th. We start our FA Cup campaign away to Dunstable Town on Saturday 7th September in the first qualifying round, with a possible replay at home on Wednesday 11th. Our next league outing is at Folkestone Invicta on Saturday 14th September. TEAMS Bishop’s Stortford XI 1. Fred Burbidge (GK) 2. Ben Sampayo 4. Jack Thomas (Yellow card 57’) (Sub Morgan 79’) 5. If you enjoyed this do give me a follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/ThisIsMcCann ⚽️💥🎙Full-match commentary as Dulwich Hamlet, homeless and nameless due to off-field issues, fought back to win 3-1 at Billericay Town and go top of the Bostick League, the 7th tier of English football. Apologies for any poor sound quality. Local cardiologist and sports enthusiast Gerald Clesham was my summariser, with the commentary streamed live via MixLR across the evening. An incredible game to commentate between two promotion rivals with eventful off-field situations to say the least. Of all the 33 football matches I've commentated on this season across Bundesliga, Premier League etc, this was, without doubt, the most emotionally charged. This week Dulwich were evicted from their home ground by property developers, and both teams were desperately seeking to get their promotion campaigns back on track. On the pitch Billericay deservedly lead earlier through captain Dean Inman's header, but a brace from Dipo Akinyi either side of half-time put Dulwich ahead. A stoppage-time goal from Nyren Clunis sealed victory to the delight of the travelling fans after a dramatic game that had it all, even 17 minutes of stoppage time! Dulwich go one point above Billericay at the top having played four games more, but this game, and the victory for Hamlet was about so much more than football really.
