Celtic demand referee John Beaton explain why Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos avoided action. Celtic called on referee John Beaton to publicly explain why he let Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos off the hook. The Colombian international appeared to kick Parkhead skipper Scott Brown, stand on Anthony Ralston and flick out his hand at Ryan Christie's groin during last Saturday's 1-0 Old Firm victory for Steven Gerrard's side at Ibrox. But 22-year-old Morelos escaped retrospective SFA punishment because Beaton confirmed that he had witnessed all three incidents at the time. Expressing 'surprise' that the official had failed to take action against Morelos, Celtic released a strongly-worded statement in which they called for transparency - and a meeting with SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell and head of refereeing John Fleming. 'It is reported that no action was taken because the match referee saw all of the incidents in question,' the club's statement read. 'Given that the referee took no action at the time, this tends to suggest that such conduct, which in one instance led to a Celtic player, Anthony Ralston, being injured, is acceptable in Scottish football. That cannot be right. 'On the day, Celtic did not play well enough to win the match, something we accept. However, this issue goes beyond the result of the match. 'Celtic is not the only club this season to raise concerns regarding the standard of officiating at matches in Scotland, concerns which have also been shared by many commentators on the game.' Rangers were last month fined £6,000 after they released a statement which expressed stinging criticism of referee Willie Collum after he sent off Daniel Candeias during November's win over St Mirren. The Ibrox club also vowed to continue with their campaign to allow disputed yellow cards to be contested. Kilmarnock, Hearts, Aberdeen and Motherwell have also been critical of standards of officiating in Scottish football this season - and Celtic are now the latest club to seek discussions with the governing body on the issue. The Parkhead statement continued: 'In order to fully understand what is going on, Celtic, our supporters, Scottish clubs and the general Scottish football public need transparency in these matters. 'We therefore call on the Scottish FA to allow the referee, John Beaton, to explain these decisions publicly as well as any match officials involved in other similar circumstances. 'In the meantime, we have requested a meeting with Scottish FA chief executive, Ian Maxwell, and the Association's head of refereeing.' The SFA issued a response to Celtic last night, saying it was agreed last month that a meeting involving managers, referees and PFA Scotland is to be arranged in a bid to heal the current rift between clubs and match officials. The SFA statement added: 'We welcome discussion with any of our member clubs. 'The board discussed this last month and it was agreed that we would arrange a meeting involving stakeholders including managers, our Referee Operations department and PFA Scotland. 'This will be an excellent opportunity to open dialogue, answer questions and discuss opportunities to improve our game.'

There was a further blow when the visitors lost Murphy early after he appeared to twist his left knee on Killie’s plastic pitch and was stretchered off with head in hands as Daniel Candeias took his place. Morelos was again frustrated as Bachmann blocked well with his legs, while former Ibrox wideman Chris Burke sparked a fine save from Foderingham with a free-kick from out wide. But there was no denying Morelos on 28 minutes as he grabbed the opener. Scott Arfield, Andy Halliday and Candeias led a counter-attack as James Tavernier was found out wide and his cross was bulleted home at close-range. Killie were almost level five minutes later as Kirk Broadfoot smacked a header off the bar but it was Gers who doubled their lead on 43 minutes. Tavernier’s long ball down the right-hand channel should have been dealt with by Scott Boyd but he allowed himself to be rolled by Morelos, who made the defender pay as he angled a low finish past Bachmann. The home support were cheering on 51 minutes though as Barisic diverted Jordan Jones’ cross into his own net. But it was game over with 16 minutes left as Ovie Ejaria, Arfield and Tavernier worked together to lay on Morelos one last time as he tucked home his hat-trick from close-range.

Manager Graeme Murty has no problem with Rangers fans demanding better as protest banners were on show at Ibrox for a 2-1 victory over Hearts. The win lifts Rangers back into second place but there were empty seats after last week's heavy defeat by Celtic in the Scottish Cup. "The fans are fully within their rights to do what they see fit," said Murty. "I'd never go against their wishes. "But we had to generate an atmosphere in the changing room for ourselves." A subdued home crowd saw little to raise spirits in a dull first half, with Hearts well-organised in defence. However, goals from Jason Cummings and Daniel Candeias capped a much-improved second 45 minutes, although the visitors, who replied through Christophe Berra, were guilty of terrible marking for both goals. Rangers were humbled 4-0 by Celtic in last Sunday's semi-final, while experienced duo Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace were then suspended as the club investigate a dressing room row with Murty. Before kick-off, a display read: "No fight, no pride. Nowhere to hide. Incompetent on & off the pitch. We deserve better."
