Rangers displayed their ruthless streak as they inflicted Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts' first defeat in 13 games this season. Steven Gerrard's side, who move up to sixth place in the division, were ahead after three minutes through Ryan Kent. Hearts' defence was breached again before the break, as Alfredo Morelos and Scott Arfield scored. Michael Smith was sent off for the visitors after the break, before Jimmy Dunne pulled a goal back with a header. Hearts had made their best start to a season since 2005/06, but had no answer to the confidence and assertiveness of a Rangers team that picked up where they left off in defeating Rapid Vienna in the Europa League group stage on Thursday. Rangers continue to be commanding at home, with the win over Hearts being their 10th game unbeaten at Ibrox this season in all competitions.
Gascoigne signed for Rangers in July 1995, for a club record fee of £4.3 million, on wages of £15,000 a week. He made an immediate impact; in the fifth league game of the season in the Old Firm match at Celtic Park he scored a goal after running almost the full length of the pitch. On 30 December, in a match against Hibernian, Gascoigne was booked by referee Dougie Smith after he picked Smith's yellow card up from the ground and jokingly 'booked' the referee. Rangers went on to win the league in the 1995–96 season, clinching the title in the penultimate game of the season against Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium; Gascoigne scored a hat-trick during the game. Rangers won the double as they also won the Scottish Cup by knocking out Keith, Clyde, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Celtic, before beating Heart of Midlothian 5–1 in the final at Hampden Park. He scored 19 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions, and was named as both PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year and SFWA Footballer of the Year. Rangers won the league title again in 1996–97, their ninth in succession. Gascoigne claimed hat-tricks against Kilmarnock and Motherwell, and ended the campaign with 17 goals in 34 games. The "Gers" won another double by winning the League Cup, knocking out Clydebank, Ayr United, Hibernian and Dunfermline Athletic en route to the final. Rangers beat Hearts 4–3 in the final at Celtic Park, with Gascoigne scoring two goals and Ally McCoist claiming the other two. Credit to Wikipedia.
Manager Graeme Murty has no problem with Rangers fans demanding better as protest banners were on show at Ibrox for a 2-1 victory over Hearts. The win lifts Rangers back into second place but there were empty seats after last week's heavy defeat by Celtic in the Scottish Cup. "The fans are fully within their rights to do what they see fit," said Murty. "I'd never go against their wishes. "But we had to generate an atmosphere in the changing room for ourselves." A subdued home crowd saw little to raise spirits in a dull first half, with Hearts well-organised in defence. However, goals from Jason Cummings and Daniel Candeias capped a much-improved second 45 minutes, although the visitors, who replied through Christophe Berra, were guilty of terrible marking for both goals. Rangers were humbled 4-0 by Celtic in last Sunday's semi-final, while experienced duo Kenny Miller and Lee Wallace were then suspended as the club investigate a dressing room row with Murty. Before kick-off, a display read: "No fight, no pride. Nowhere to hide. Incompetent on & off the pitch. We deserve better." A second banner was hoisted from the same section in the Broomloan Road Stand as the second half got under way, stating: "Mindless behind the scenes, heartless on the pitch." Credits BBC Sport
Shocking result Rangers, absolutely shocking, there are players playing in that team who shouldn't be near a Rangers jersey and drawing wages they just don't deserve, I hope to **** there off in the window.....The loyal fans who pack the stadium every second week want players with fight in their guts and who want to play for the jersey. We need a manager now, and I'd go for TP. Read the forums Rangers fans !!
