Abergele Cycling: Allt Gwaenysgor (Prestatyn)
One of the toughest and most feared bike climbs in North Wales, climbing around 620 feet in 1.7 miles, from the A548 in Prestatyn to a crest in the road above a vantage point and car park just north of the village of Gwaenysgor. This is a seriously difficult hill ('allt in the Welsh language) climb, the type that a healthy pair of lungs and a compact chain set were designed for. From the minute the climb takes a left hand turn at a narrow junction on Bishopswood Road, the climbing up the road known as 'Hillside' is relentless, with the 33% gradient for its last section acting as a vicious sting in its tail. Those who manage to complete it are rewarded with one of the most spectacular vantage points in North Wales, looking out over the coastline and mountain ranges towards the west, from Gwaenysgor car park.
