In their first home game with fans in over 20 months, the UNLV Runnin' Rebels defeated the Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb 64-58 at the Thomas & Mack Center. Bryce Hamilton and Royce Hamm Jr. lead the way for the Rebels. Hamm scored 18 points and added 17 rebounds as well. Hamilton added 22 for the Rebels as they pulled away from the Bulldogs late. It wasn't a pretty shooting performance for the Rebs as they shot only 22-60 from the field and only 2-25 from beyond the arc. However, the Rebel defense forced 16 turnovers and was aggressive all night. Converting on 22 out of 27 free throw attempts, the Runnin' Rebels were able to win their first game of the season, and Kevin Kruger won his first game as a head coach. The Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 in Game 3 of their second-round matchup. After losing Game 2 in overtime, Vegas came out of the gates strong in front of a full house at T-Mobile Arena. Vegas outshot Colorado 14-3 in the first period, however, Philipp Grubauer was standing tall, and the game was scoreless going into the second period. 4 minutes into the second period, William Karlsson kicked off the scoring. Pietrangelo and Martinez assisted on that goal. However, two minutes later, Soderburg scored off of a rebound from Bellemare and Sherwood at 6:07. Both teams would exchange chances, but at the end of two periods, it was tied at 1. In the third, Rantanen extended his playoff point streak to 17 straight games. Rantanen scored on a powerplay goal, and the Avs lead 2-1. Fleury would make some key stops, and Marchessault scored to level this game at 2. 45 seconds later, Pacioretty had a great tip in that gave the Golden Knights the lead. The Colorado Avalanche defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2 in Overtime, in Game 2 of this best of 7 series. This game was an instant classic where both Marc Andre Fleury and Philipp Grubauer played unbelievably well. After being down 2-1 after the first period, Reilly Smith scored for the Knights at the 10:28 mark of the second period. Also, after the first period, Vegas outplayed and outshot Colorado through the remainder of regulation. However, Philipp Grubauer was too tough tonight, saving 39 out of 41 shots. Vegas was also a victim of the post. Vegas hit the post 5 times, and 4 times during the third period. The Avalanche took advantage of their powerplay opportunities going 2/6 on the man advantage. Vegas went 1/3, but couldn't score on their last powerplay with three minutes left in regulation. Colorado now leads this series 2 games to 0 after Rantanen's Powerplay goal in overtime. Robin Lehner was the starting goaltender for Vegas tonight, while Peter Grubauer was the starting goalie for Colorado. The Avs kicked off the scoring early, and lead 2-0 after the first period. In the second, the Avalanche kept the scoring going, and lead 6-1 after the second period. Colorado was too fast for Robin Lehner and the Vegas Golden Knights tonight. The game got chippy in the third period after Mattias Janmark left the game in the second after getting hit by Graves. Ryan Reaves was ejected, and Colorado was awarded a 9-minute powerplay.
