City oilers beat Algeria’s GS petroliers 87-81 in rades
The 5th to 8th placement match in the Tunisian city of Rades saw Oilers wipe out a three-point first quarter deficit. Jordin Mayes dropped a team high 19 points for Mande Juruni’s side. Petroliers were kept in the contest by Faycal Zerouk’s game high 24 points. Leon Tillman, however, came off the bench to knock down 13 points as Oilers just about held their own. Oilers will now battle Mozambique’s Ferroviorio da Beira for 5th position in the tournament. Uganda bundled out of CECAFA senior challenge Cup by Zanzibar
Uganda has been bundled out of the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup. Now, The Cranes have suffered a shock 2-1 defeat against Zanzibar in the Kenyan town of Kisumu. Derrick Nsibambi struck in the 29th minute to draw Uganda level, but Joseph Nsubuga left the soon-to-be-deposed champions in a rut after giving away a second half penalty. Nsubuga was also sent off before Mohamed Issa struck what proved to be the winner. Jinja Youth MP polls marred by violence as voters demand money from candidates
The election of the representative for the Youth Electoral College in Jinja district turned rowdy after some voters disrupted the polling by demanding money from one of the candidates who reportedly promised to pay them in return for their vote. The election was being contested by three candidates; Ntuyo Mohammed of the ruling NRM party, Brian Nsimbi and Grace Muganza who both stood as independent candidates. What does Lukwago's emphatic win mean for politics in Kampala?
The just-concluded parliamentary, presidential and mayoral elections have left a bitter taste in the mouths of those who lost the various seats. In Kampala, voters shunned the ruling National Resistance Movement party candidates in favour of the opposition that took eight of the city’s nine parliamentary seats. At dawn on Thursday, the opposition added salt to the NRM’s wound after Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago retained his seat at City Hall with a 127,271 vote difference against NRM’s Daniel Kazibwe, popularly known as Ragga Dee. Lukwago's win means the frosty relationship government has had with the opposition will continue, unless both sides agree to work together for the good of the people. UPL teams hold final preparations for matchday 17
10 Uganda Premier League teams have held their final training sessions ahead of matchday 17 tomorrow.
