What does Lukwago's emphatic win mean for politics in Kampala?

The just-concluded parliamentary, presidential and mayoral elections have left a bitter taste in the mouths of those who lost the various seats. In Kampala, voters shunned the ruling National Resistance Movement party candidates in favour of the opposition that took eight of the city’s nine parliamentary seats. At dawn on Thursday, the opposition added salt to the NRM’s wound after Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago retained his seat at City Hall with a 127,271 vote difference against NRM’s Daniel Kazibwe, popularly known as Ragga Dee. Lukwago's win means the frosty relationship government has had with the opposition will continue, unless both sides agree to work together for the good of the people.
